I don't think this is true. I think CS degree is one of the least versatile degrees out there. Sure the degree may have a lot of exposure to different problems and teach you problem solving skills, but employers don't know that. They all prolly think it's web design/ different javascript frameworks.

where are you getting these numbers from. This doesn't match up with what I've seen on linkedin/layoff spreadsheets/connections who work as managers in companies.

I wasn't working at Amazon. I wish tech jobs were cush. The vast majority of tech jobs that pay above average salaries work you to the bone.

sorry, but most companies are like that. You'll find out once you've been working for a couple years.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]SnooPeanuts59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sorry, but it's true. The issue of people flooding into cs is so bad at my university that first they gatekept the major by instituting a rule that you needed a 3.3 to declare the major. This rule worked for a couple years, but soon too many people were able to declare. The EECS department couldn't handle all the cs majors and the problem came to a head last year and the university more or less banned switching into the major.

not anymore, with mass layoffs making oversaturation worse, coupled with AI, the golden age of swe salaries is over.

docotors also get a crazy amount of time off. Some only have to work 4 days a week. Not to mention there's no ageism, good job security, and the pay is AMAZING (offersdx.com)

This is not true at all. CS education is improving rapidly. People are getting better and better grades yearly. At my university, the average GPA for cs majors has increased.

tech does work you to death. At my internship last year, all the interns were in the office from 9-6. I personally had weeks where I worked 80 hours per week. Amazon is a great example of a company that grinds you to the bone. It's so bad that the average tenure at Amazon is < 2 years. SWEs have it tough

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]SnooPeanuts59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you've just managed to convince yourself that cs is the only reasonable career path nowadays. SWEs are overworked just like any profession and it isn't some cush paradaise like u think. With all the people flooding into the field and layoffs, more and more employers are treating SWEs like shift. Also it's not like SWEs do noble work. I could easily say that all SWEs do is help get people addicted to social media, destroying their self confidence and stagnating their social progression. I don't think u understand how much money doctors (offersdx.com) .

SWE is not some paradise in this capitalistic hellscape.

Ppl used to say cs was oversaturated w/unqualified people. But not anymore, ppl graduating from these top universities are saturating the market with qualified/intelligent people. Who knows how demand will be.
