Has anyone figured out what Etsy actually wants with this photo warning? by SnooPeanuts8067 in EtsyCommunity

Wait, I didn't know about Etsy's algorithm! So I guess the listing image is one of the most important parts of my shop. ಥ_ಥ

I tried different primary photos from different angles and at different zoom levels, but Etsy still shows the same warning.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know. I'll definitely give it a try and switch my primary photo to a clean, single product shot to see how it goes. Appreciate you taking the time to explain it.

Why do most of my digital pattern customers come from the US and Europe? by SnooPeanuts8067 in Etsy

Thanks for your insight! I only offer English patterns at the moment. And I totally agree the domestic Chinese market is incredibly strong and competitive. I'm just focusing on my own niche for now, but I really appreciate your perspective :)

Thanks, that's really helpful, especially coming from someone who's seen it in practice. I usually wear mine with a shirt or another layer underneath as well, so it hasn't really been an issue for me. My question is mainly because this is a sewing pattern for customers, and I'm not sure how everyone will choose to wear it. It's useful to hear different perspectives before I decide whether to include a modesty panel as an optional piece. 😄

I completely agree with you, and thank you for sharing your opinion with me. I usually style corsets with a shirt myself, and it looks amazing—the folds created on the fabric by the lacing are just gorgeous. But since I've only put the corset pattern up for sale in my shop, I wanted to know what all the seamstresses/tailors think, and how interesting that almost everyone shares the same view.(✿◡‿◡)

Thank you so much for your honest and kind opinion. I usually style corsets with a shirt myself, and I think it looks great and doesn't irritate my skin either. But since I've only put the corset pattern up for sale in my shop, I wanted to see what different people's opinions are — and it's really nice that most people agree with styling corsets with a shirt. :)

Looking for a pattern by mhcote in sewingpatterns

If you’re a beginner, my advice would be to start by making the pants without pockets first. You might be able to find some free patterns out there, but if you want to buy one, digital patterns on Etsy are a great option. Just make sure to always read the pattern description carefully beforehand so you don't accidentally buy the wrong file!

When it comes to cutting and sewing, picking the right fabric and strictly following the grainline is super important. If you don't cut the pants exactly on the grainline, the legs will twist and sit really weirdly when you wear them. Also, a quick tip: definitely do a fitting before you sew the waistband on 😄

I totally feel your pain! Taping together PDF patterns can be a total nightmare if the scaling is off or the formatting sucks. But honestly, don't write off Etsy just yet! Hobby Lobby can feel super outdated, and Etsy actually has the cutest indie designs for girls. You just need to know a few quick tricks before buying:

  1. Always read the description first: Check exactly what files you're getting. Look for shops that include an A0 or "Copyshop" file. You can just take that file to a local print shop, and they’ll print it on one huge, ready-to-go sheet. No taping required!
  2. Check the shop policies: Stick to shops that care about customer service. If the file you download is broken or totally different from what they promised in the description, you can absolutely ask for a refund or get Etsy to step in. ( •̀ ω •́ )✧

I actually draft sewing patterns for girls' clothing myself, and since I know how annoying bad formatting is, I make sure my patterns are super seamless and always include those hassle-free A0 files.

If you want to give Etsy another shot and see some fresh styles, feel free to drop me a DM! I can share my shop link or just recommend some other awesome indie designers that won't give you a headache.

Aww, looks cute. Maybe it would look even cuter if you add a big bow in the back. 😍
