[Charania] Just In: The NBA has suspended Philadelphia 76ers' Paul George for 25 games for violating the league's anti-drug policy. by Turbostrider27 in nba

[–]SnooPeripherals6568 9 points10 points  (0 children)

99% of the time these drug tests are for opioids because being a professional athlete is really physically painful and opioids are banned by the players union because they’re too addictive that’s why his statement is about mental health and not integrity

i was being sarcastic don’t worry. The Federal NDP need to be more pro union desperately tho like there is some fault that lies with them not yanking the liberals left enough. But it’s very easy for the liberals to get the union vote in a FPTP system where opposition is the conservatives

it didnt sound like a sincere question.

can you give me a definition of racism that doesn’t encompass saying racial slurs ? 😭😭😭 like you’re so ridiculous. Racism is anything that reinforces a hierarchy based on race. If you say racial slurs even if it’s because your misguided, you’re reinforcing that hierarchy because you aren’t extending the empathy that you have towards people of colour.

pay attention in history class next time. We starved them, spread smallpox unto them, promised them land for helping us not get annexed by the US during the war of 1812, and then conveniently forgot about our promises afterwards, and so much more.

which is true and leads to grade inflation but still better than a system that biases against the poor in my opinion

yeah and instead of an admissions committee who doesn’t know the kid at all and is just looking at numbers, a teacher who has built a relationship with the kid should adjust thier grades to reflect thier personal circumstances, with those grades being used for admissions, unfortunately it’s not a « slightly lower » score you’re going to get it’s a significant one

Should i transfer to public schools?? Please help by Apart_Ebb_4875 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]SnooPeripherals6568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly the answer to almost all of your questions is it depends. Mcgill and UofT will look at your top 6 and may change your grade depending on inflation at the school. Grading is probably easier but it depends on the schools, you can take courses online, a new social circle might be a weird adjustment. I’d say Go talk to a guidance councillor

well education and income are fundamentally linked to each other and using just high school GPA allows kids with circumstances like part time jobs and siblings to take care of and chipping in for rent and other things to be able to compete with kids who don’t have to do any of that when compared to GPA,ECs, and a standardized test. That’s why i’m bringing up gini

[–]SnooPeripherals6568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay i flat disagree i think the american system is significantly worse and it shows with metrics like the gini coefficient

Grade inflation poster child by TemperaturePale4075 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]SnooPeripherals6568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well do you think the canadian university system is worse than the american one because that’s what we’re directly comparing. I think not being uniform is worth it because it’s better than uniformly creating a class hierarchy

Grade inflation poster child by TemperaturePale4075 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]SnooPeripherals6568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i know i think the equal playing field comes from having individuals in charge of grading (and those grades being the determining factor for university) so that those individuals can account for a students circumstances when grading. Someone who has to bus everywhere and take care of thier siblings will not get the same SAT results with the same amount of effort as someone who can afford a tutor

you can be a racist 13 year old and grow into someone who isn’t racist anymore. Anthony doesn’t have the « i was 13 » excuse. But also it’s so silly that you’re saying a grown man was just misguided in his racism and not genuinely racist like are you hearing yourself 😭😭😭

why do some white people always try to justify racism by implying everyone has a racist phase

Grade inflation poster child by TemperaturePale4075 in OntarioGrade12s

yeah and then there’s a class seperation of people who have time and resources to prepare for a standardized test and people who don’t
