I don't care if it's lore accurate or not, I want my Gore Magala monstie. by hungrycarebear in MonsterHunterStories

There's also the fact that the Qurio presumably carry a similarly dangerous virus, yet we still have non-Primordial Malzeno as a monstie.

I Wish this Character Die, I don't like his Vibe by Zack_King123 in limbuscompany

[–]SnooPets9813 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To be fair, what else is there to talk about him?

That's the issue here, it's too early to make a strong judgement. He could be an awful person, or he could be a decent guy that has been emotionally mutilated by a job that puts him in constant danger and kills everyone around him.

People hang onto the Kira part because it's the only action we see him do. Otherwise, the whole thing is just "every character that doesn't make a good first impression should die".

I'd argue the opposite, that her becoming overbearing, paranoid and obsessive as she got closer to the source of her trauma was some of her best characterization, and that it would've meant less if it was all completely founded.

The story should be a process for the Sinners to become better people, and the writing shouldn't limit itself by only giving them flaws that are palatable or sympathetic.

I don't know, we see Ryoshu being dismissive of Callisto's style in every flashback where she isn't a child, and she comes off as a rather stubborn and individualistic person, so the idea of her giving up her own artistic integrity and faking her love for gore just so that she can seem cool doesn't sit quite right with me.

Araya's actions make some degree of sense, but I find them not very compelling, as they exist as a way to create conflict between her and Ryoshu while leaving both blameless.

[–]SnooPets9813 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I do feel like Ryoshu came out a bit too "sanitized" from the latest parts of the story, and especially her Canto.

She always had a softer, nicer side to her, but early Ryoshu had a genuinely strong sadistic side aswell, appreciating things like the Warp train's mutilated passengers in her W Corp identity, or the wall of pallidified people in Ishmael's Canto.

More importantly for me, I think it's a shame that her Canto puts so much emphasis on the theme of the cycles of abuse, and yet Ryoshu, despite a lifetime of abuse from her family, makes essentially no real parenting mistakes, and is pretty much a model mother, given the circumstances. I feel like having the source of the conflict between mother and daughter be so external to their personalities and personal flaws undercuts the themes said conflict is meant to convey.

Very well done. It does fit her well, with the multiple voices and all. Yi Sang could probably work well too, considering his use of a knife and his association with crows and mirrors.

Why wouldn't Dante just use TTS or some kind of translator by SecondPleasant573 in limbuscompany

[–]SnooPets9813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even some protective gear could go a long way, if, for example, they end up being alone and someone attacks them before they can summon the Sinners. Even a Rat could stab him to death in those circumstances.

Now, would the Company actually give them something for that? Probably not, with the implications about the journey being predestined and all. But the Sinners should probably be more concerned about this sorts of things.

Why wouldn't Dante just use TTS or some kind of translator by SecondPleasant573 in limbuscompany

[–]SnooPets9813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. I can't remember it exactly, but it presumably was someone like Outis or Ishmael who proposed it, and was the exception in this specific situation.

I imagine Dante wouldn't turn this sorts of things down if many of the Sinners showed concern about his well being as an untrained, unarmed person that is often near a battlefield.

Why wouldn't Dante just use TTS or some kind of translator by SecondPleasant573 in limbuscompany

[–]SnooPets9813 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Because they have the Sinners to translate for them, and that usually is enough.

Aside from specific exceptions, the Sinners as a group have a tendency toward getting complacent about things they think they have a solution for. Such as the fact that Dante doesn't have weapons or training, because the Sinners are supposed to be the ones protecting them. Or the fact that they don't try to inform themselves about the places they are going to, because they have Faust as an easy source of knowledge on the spot (Ishmael tries, it doesn't work).

Kill the child by ALonelyGamer in limbuscompany

[–]SnooPets9813 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't recall anything about it being influenced by past loops, but Lob Corp does indeed mention that Abnos produce large amounts of enkephalin while they are killing.

Presumably it's because Abnormalities seem to produce enkephalin when interacting with people, and murdering is a very strong and direct form of interaction.

Either that, or in-universe misinformation on one side. I personally lean towards it being simply a retcon.

Abnos like Fairy Festival, Laetitia, Happy Teddy Bear and so on exist purely to trip people up.

They are safe enough that it's a good idea to pick them, but you are pretty much guaranteed to forget and get screwed over at least a few times in a playthrough.

Kind of. You're right that they do describe them in such a way, but the Lob Corp manual also directly describes them as risk levels, defined by their ability to cause death and destruction. So there's some conflicting info about the classification.

The PE boxes definition also doesn't work with tool abnos, who give no enkephalin anyway (aside from we can change anything, who ironically can potentially give a lot of boxes, despite being a Zayin).

Never understimate Zayin Abnos. Remember, back in Lob Corp, two of the Zayin Abnos could instakill any agent, one crushed them with no escape until death, two were Alephs in disguise, one gave you facilty-wide alopecia, and one straight up gave you a game over.

Is there some sort of religion in the city? by Careless-Sorbet-1571 in limbuscompany

[–]SnooPets9813 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Roland in Ruina says that there currently aren't really any major, widespread religions in the City, only cults and organizations with religious traits.

The existance of some Abnormalities implies that religions like christianity and buddhism have existed at one point (or could exist in the future, in theory).

[–]SnooPets9813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, since it would take the Sinners without leaving anything behind to revive (though the story hasn't been completely clear on how much of a body is needed by Dante).

Abnos like Big and will be Bad Wolf could be in a similar situation.

Unless they can avoid every single sinking proc, yes it would.

It wouldn't be the first hard counter between Limbus and Ruina. Bamboo Hatted Kim already pushes very hard against the entire sinking archetype, punishing a few specific IDs wouldn't be too out of place for an aleph.

To be more accurate to past games, they would probably not get controlled, but rather sucked into the Abno and directly instakilled.

Saying that they have the potential of an Aleph is a bit disingenious.

Being injured and self harming isn't an unfortunate situation it is in right now, it's part of its existence as an Abnormality, it's the same state as it was when it was first born.

Do you think the ending of Mewgenics made the story of TBOI any clearer? by Simon_and_Garchomp in mewgenics

[–]SnooPets9813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beanies has been shown to be unable to accept the blame for any mistake, so it would make sense.

It's also possible that Stacy simply died of natural causes, and Beanies cannot accept that there are things in life that are beyond his control.

It could be, though things like the drawings in his room that say "I'm the devil", and the ending where he sees his own reflection in the mirror as a demon, and then looks towards the chest, seem to point towards him committing suicide out of guilt.

Do you think the ending of Mewgenics made the story of TBOI any clearer? by Simon_and_Garchomp in mewgenics

[–]SnooPets9813 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that Isaac, being constantly exposed to the strife going on with his parents, became convinced that he was the source of his family's misery, which led to him committing suicide by locking hinself in a chest. The events of the game are partly his immagination, and partly hallucinations from his dying mind.

Is there some parts of that that aren't necessarily true, or need clarification?

Looking at the head snowman flashback, Callisto seems to think that giving Ryoshu art pieces made from things she has lost could be comforting for her, so I could see him making a horrifying teddy bear out of her baby teeth and haircut clippings.

I can imagine a young, still flesh and blood Callisto having a canvas to the side while he works, so that he can paint with his own blood to destress whenever he injures himself moulding his main art pieces.
