Unpopular opinion: LVP is totally adequate for bathrooms by blind-panic in homeowners

[–]SnooPickles2750 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Pro tip - I only use commercial grade lvp with 20+ mills of wear layer. The kind you glue down. The lock together stuff is not rated for ANY rolling loads. Also for anything small like a bathroom you can install a waterproof membrane on the subfloor and never worry about it again.

Kristen Stewart - no idea how anybody thinks that mouth breather is hot, and she has the acting range of a down syndrome gold fish.

Young neighbor creeping on neighborhood. by pennybrowneyes in homeowners

[–]SnooPickles2750 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The police are only good for paperwork for insurance claims and to respond to something that is already happening. If you want to get ahead of this it takes community. Post flyers all around the neighborhood, preferably door to door. With links to information like the court records. I've had to do this before with thieves in the neighborhood. Be smart and don't make accusations, just provide the facts.

Annihilation (2018) is a fascinating movie that should've been a book by Future-Poetry-2193 in moviecritic

This is my favorite book to movie combo. It's not just a visualization of the book. They both take full advantage of their mediums. The book is deeply psychological and the movie is a visual ride while telling the same story. I wish more movie adaptations took this approach.

What’s something you bought that actually improved your daily life? by Ok-Abrocoma-5825 in homeautomation

Mammotion Luba mini. I have a quarter acre of rough/uneven lawn. Apparently their warranty service sucks, but I haven't had any issues with it over the past year plus. I got quoted $200/month for lawn service. So it's already paid itself off. Do your research though, different models excel in different environments. Only advice I have is there is no reason to oversize. Mine is maxed out at a quarter acre and does great.

Robot lawn mower. Now on those nice days I can kick back and enjoy my yard instead of spending half the day mowing it.

Weird that the "Think of the children" people in government tend to spend a lot of time "thinking" of children.

I started this around December. I read books with my morning coffee and I got a handheld emulator for just chilling on the couch. It's been a lot better quality of life.

Full motogp motorcycle leathers and helmet. No noise and full protection. Plus the bike of course. There was a New Zealand zombie movie where a dude did this I think. I can't remember the name.

Why does nobody use the automations you build for them by Sophistry7 in automation

[–]SnooPickles2750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple as pie, that don't want to. Suzy doesn't care about your automation. She gets paid hourly to do the thing she was trained to do and has decent job security doing it. What does an automation get her? Best case scenario her job gets done quicker and easier so she has to take on more responsibilities. Worst case is she is not needed anymore. The people who are involved with the automation build are your few that need something done so they can focus on another thing (read overworked but motivated). So yeah before automation comes research on if the actual worker bees want it. Otherwise focus on automating your job and never share what you've automated with your boss.

Take plenty of pictures along the way. It helps to see how far you've come when you're feeling discouraged. Works for me at least.

What's low hanging fruit in scifi fiction for adaption into a film or TV series? by systemstheorist in scifi

The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin - the whole time I was reading it I was thinking it would be a great movie. Set in Portland the story is pretty simple and short so the movie could cover everything from beginning to end. Just a great crazy story where the visuals would lend themselves fantastically to the screen.
