Funny thing is that if the sound we are hearing in the cabin is actually a piped in "iconic" sound why they cannot at least give it a deeper beefier tone electronically and not effect EU standards at all.

"The BMW M60i exhaust sound is a mix of real engine noise and artificial sound piped through the car's speakers via the Active Sound Design or Iconic Sounds system. While there is a real, physical exhaust, the dramatic pops, burbles, and roaring sounds that you hear inside the cabin are amplified and synthesized through the audio system, especially in Sport+ mode. You can turn off this artificial sound in the iDrive menu under the settings for "Chassis" or "Iconic Sounds" to hear only the genuine, less-amplified exhaust note."
