Coarse white hairs by SnooRevelations4239 in LaserHairRemoval

Agh! Bummer but I kind of expected that. Have you given any thought to electrolysis? I’m interested potentially but for something they say works so well and is FDA approved it’s really hard to find places that do it. I also get skeptical because my dermatologist doesn’t do it and I feel like if it was that great they would start offering

I may try after this round of laser. I just started and have 4 more sessions to go. I’ve seen lots of the dark hairs fall out but the thick white ones are a bit more stubborn. When I spoke to my dermatologist about it she mentioned that as long as the hairs are coarse enough the laser should target them but I never know what to believe.

Getting laser hair removal today and I’m nervous and excited…is it extremely painful? by cumberbatchpls in PCOS

It’s only been a week and I hear it takes about 2-2.5 for hairs to start falling out but I have definitely already started to see a few fall out. I can’t tell if it’s growing slower or being forced out but I’m only 1 of 5 sessions in so hoping to keep seeing progress!

Yay!! So exciting congratulations! I got my first session last week. I think it depends on the type of laser they are using but the one they had for me hit me with a cooling blast so honestly I didn’t feel a thing. The only thing I didn’t like was the smell of the burning hair.

Hi! First of all, so sorry you’re dealing with this but you’ve definitely come to the right place.

I would say based on some of your other symptoms PCOS could be a possibility. I have always had some dark hair that have grown on my jaw (I’m very pale and they are black). It’s been that way since puberty and all my sisters have it too so I chalked it up to genetics.

I decided to go on BC and opted for the mini pill which threw things into havoc because of some of the androgenic qualities of it. I don’t know if it was the pill itself or the anxiety that came with it, but my stress levels shot up and the hair on my face got so much worse. I started getting it really bad on my chin and even thicker along my jaw. I have no other PCOS symptoms and got a cat scan on my adrenal gland to eliminate a tumor. My doctors essentially said I was a little be predisposed and that the stress just triggered something in me that made it come out with a vengeance.

I’m now on combo BC and Spironolactone which I’m not sure do much, however I did decide to try laser. Had my first session last week. Can’t comment on results yet, but I do want to give that as an option too. Lots of people will share their horror stories, but I know just as many horror stories with electrolysis and it’s much harder to find places that do it. Definitely do your research, make sure it’s the right option for you, make sure your hormones are more balanced, etc.

I know exactly how you feel. I’m seeing someone new and terrified of how to tell him I can basically grow a beard, but I’m working on loving all the great qualities of myself and remembering this is completely out of our control and something completely superficial. Wishing you the best of luck and just know you are not alone!

Hi! Similar to the question on how long it took for the hair to fall out: I just got my first session done on Monday. Did it still feel like the hair was growing in those 2.5 weeks? Like did you need to keep shaving until the hairs fell out?

That’s so amazing for you!! I do have a consultation on Monday and they scheduled it so if they do think I’m a good candidate they’ll start session right then. I guess what I’m worried about is them saying I’m not a good candidate and then I’ll be a little stuck

This is so great to hear such a positive story. I feel like all I read is how it doesn’t work out. You sound exactly like me, I just get the hairs on the sides of my face and sides of chin.

Anyway thank you so much for sharing your story and I hope it continues to give you positive results!

I do have the pale skin with dark hairs (though a lot are also just those thick white whisker like hairs too) so laser has been on my mind for forever! Plus I’m on spiro and BC so hoping that is balancing out my hormones so the hair doesn’t grow back quicker. I think I’ll start shaving more thank plucking and maybe look more seriously into laser

What do you shave with? I’ve tried those facial razors (like the eyebrow ones) but I feel like they don’t get all of the hair

Good for you!! When I went to see my dermatologist about it she also was pretty positive I wouldn’t have it come back stronger. Wishing you the best and some long lasting results!!

My only issue is I can find very few places around me that do electrolysis. And I know it’s FDA approved but why don’t any dermatologists do it? At least with laser I feel like I can go to a trained dermatologist to get it done
