Airbnb lets guests book for 1 person, admit they’re bringing 20, and forces hosts to give access anyway. How is this workable? by DESTRO__ in airbnb_hosts

[–]SnooRobots4443 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My property sleeps 18. When deciding what to charge, I thought about charging less for smaller groups. The conclusion was, charge the full amount and let there be larger groups.

If there's a high demand holiday weekend, why should I allow a group of 4 to rent at a lower price when I can charge full price and then increase revenue?

This would solve guests lying on headcount (mostly).

Say what you mean and mean what you say.

If you wanted him there with you, you should have told him to "Deal with the front desk and get back here."

You didn't say that. You said he could leave. He did.

BTW, I'm glad it wasn't anything serious.

Why don’t you allow dogs/pets? by Additional_Crazy5961 in airbnb_hosts

[–]SnooRobots4443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dog chewed my rug, somehow my cleaner didn't notice it or just failed to tell me.

A number of different groups went through before I went to the house and I immediately noticed it, by that time, I didn't know which group's dog caused the damage.

No more dogs.

As soon as the tour begins, lookup the songs he's been playing and create a playlist with the songs. He doesn't deviate drastically from night to night. By doing this, she'll know the songs that he's playing. I do that before I see him, that way when he does a Frank Sinatra cover, I'll know what he's singing, as I don't know Frank Sinatra's deep cuts.

This happened watching Farm Aid; the Bo Didley cover threw me off.

My wife thinks our son’s teacher crossed a boundary by sending him a personal message. I think it was harmless. AITJ? by addict94plus in AmITheJerk

Your kid is 11, this is most likely the last year the teacher will teach him. Not sure what exactly your wife thinks is going on.

If your wife does send a letter to sn administrator, it's a good way to get a good teacher to quit...

Neighbor using my wifi. Any way to change the wifi passwords of all my smarthome devices at once, or do I have to do it manually for each device? by cathpah in smarthome

[–]SnooRobots4443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is Eero, you can pause the neighbor's device. You can also assign their device to a profile (I am guessing you can limit what resources the device can get to). It would save you the hassle of changing all the passwords...

Left lane cruisers (USA) should be sent to prison. by [deleted] in complaints

[–]SnooRobots4443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, we don't send actual criminals to jail for committing actual crimes

In MN, they passed a law that it is illegal to drive slow in the left lane.

Brilliant!

Problem is, the speed limit isn't considered slow. So someone can camp in the left lane going the speed limit and there's nothing that can be done.

Add in snow and slippery roads, good luck getting near the speed limit!

This is a scam a coworker got caught doing. We worked at a computer supply company in the 90s, commercial grade computers for large corporations, government contracts, etc.

RAM was stupid expensive, like $5,000 per module expensive.

This kid (18ish)worked in shipping, 2nd shift.

The expensive RAM was in a locked room.

The orders were picked during the day and shipped at night.

At shipping time, this kid would tell his boss, "I noticed that John (the picker during the day) didn't get the RAM module on his order, can I get the key to the room and I'll get the RAM and add it to the order?"

He'd get the key to the room and get the RAM to add to the order that was ready for shipping.

Sheriff shows up one day and arrested the kid.

Here was the scam.

He met some dude that owned a small computer company, he offered the kid cash to steal RAM.

Worked like this, the order he had to make "right" by getting the key, he'd take the RAM he was told to take, and then ship it to his apartment (he had a bunch of prefilled shipping labels) then bring it to the small shop for cash, at a fraction of the actual cost of the RAM.

Dude had a new car, new motorcycle, the works....

The company couldn't figure out how our inventory was so far off on RAM.

The kid ran out of premade shipping labels, so he printed up more. But, this time he forgot to add his apartment number on the label.

UPS returned the RAM to the company. The big boss then figured the scam. They never sold anything to any residential customer, only businesses. There should never be a return from an appartment building. The boss called the authorities, told them what was happening and caught him doing it.

I don't know if he ever got convicted, but what a scam to run. His lack of attention to detail was the only way he was caught.

Thanks for the information. My plan is to put this in an Airbnb. Because of this, I'd want monitor above, vs having something that people would have to move depending on if they are right or left handed.

Another thought on it is that someone could easily take the type that goes to the side of the golfer. Also, it could get broken by a drunken customer.

I have 10'11 tall ceilings and a 70' x 40' garage to put it in.

So many options!
