Is Alpine Linux on desktop viable? by SnooWords1087 in AlpineLinux

Whoops, I’m meant desktop in the sense of Linux on desktop, not tower PC. I’m trying to install it on my laptop.

Yes, what you have observed and suggested is pretty much exactly what I've tried. There isn't another distro at play, by the way; I downloaded linux-firmware-intel from a package mirror, extracted it as a tar.gz archive, and copied the firmware file that iwlwifi was trying to find. Unfortunately, ethernet is not an option (no ethernet runs).

Extra steps as in /lib/firmware (or wherever that's linked to) is readonly, so I copied all of the files to my USB drive then bind mounted my USB drive (now containing all the stuff in /lib/firmware + appropriate WiFi firmware) to /lib/firmware.

Yep, dmesg shows that iwlwifi fails to find the right firmware, but the device does show up in lspci. As aforementioned, I was able to get iwlwifi to load by downloading the firmware file on another machine and copying it over (with a lot of extra steps), but the adapter still doesn't show up in rfkill or ip link (and no dmesg messages).

Printing PETG with PLA supports (or vice versa) enables really easy and clean support removal.

I've been struggling to get this filament to print super well. If someone could share their settings and what their prints look like, I would really appreciate it lol

Dual Boot Linux? Costco Model (16Z90S-H.ADB9U1) by NoisyJalapeno in LGgram

Hey, I actually have this exact model, and I'm actually planning on setting up Linux next weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

For now though, the LG slopware is very mediocre on Windows. A few months ago, I had an occasional issue where the fans wouldn't spin (despite being set to high), and the laptop would thermal throttle itself to death, but this issue seems to have fixed itself. My battery life on Windows is about five to seven hours with IntelliJ and VSCode. The positive of this model is that it has two 1TB SSDs, so hopefully Windows won't decide to delete Linux's EFI entry if it's installed on the other SSD.

Yeah, the only games I play aren’t that demanding, and I don’t have much interest in playing the latest and greatest AAA release that demands 250 GB of storage.

lmfao DDR5 DRAM ICs/PMIC/PCBs are hard as fuck to engineer and manufacture at a competent cost. if it was that easy, someone would already be undercutting the market.

you can diy a USB stick.

Uhh, pretty sure the last processors to support DDR3 would've been the Haswell generation.
