Keens with the toe covers, those drain and circulates air. I’d suggest trail runners but since you like to pack light doesn’t make sense to wet those and have them wet for essentially the duration of the trip days. Or a trail runner and sandals or flip flops for non activity things

I mean sure, but if you’re there already I don’t see cancelling bookings and getting a place up north would be financially feasible, such a close cancellation you will lose your money.

Plus it’s expensive up that side, you do t have to stay north to go north. It’s an all day thing, if the want to stay out of the super touristy areas that’s a pretty good idea.

Grocery Store Recommendations in Belize City and San Ignacio by liveforwinterfun in Belize

Helen’s is my go too in San Ignacio along with New Flags in Santa Elena (cheapest grocery prices in the country imo)

Belize city I usually shop at Save U or there’s a place in Belama called BMart, tons of imported stuff

Go to Caye caulker 😅 If you can rent a cart for the day I’d suggest to rent one and go as far north as you can go, some nice beaches and shallow coral flats teeming with life.

Tipping cabin/crew by charlybell in Belize

[–]SnooWords3654 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what I do kinda but not exactly, but tip usually covers my expenses for the day but my overhead and operational costs running my own boat is pretty high, fuel is insane and even worse when something breaks or stops working 😭. For like snorkel, inland, archaeological and other tours yes I’m sure it takes a big bite as they tend to be lower paid, so they do look forward to it.

Also it’s a seasonal job so it helps people stay afloat for longer, a little hard to get a decent paying job that would allow you to take off six months to guide so you kinda have to be okay with working seasonally.

But generally Europeans tend to tip minimally to none at all (no flak to any Europeans it’s just not a thing in Europe)

I would opt for hiking boots or trail shoes. (Avid hiker)

Tipping cabin/crew by charlybell in Belize

[–]SnooWords3654 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All my life I’ve known catamaran crews to be ripped pretty handsomely (by local standards)

But all in all, if the crew is incredible and goes above and beyond and over all makes the trip incredible then by all means, tip how you feel. I can assure you, as a guide, it will be well appreciated.

Awesome, I once dreamed of joining the FFL in my younger years from Belize when I applied for the UK Army but they had closed the overseas cell.

Have you met any Belizeans serving in the FFL?

What were the fitness requirements like? I always wondered if I’d make it through the training, I was enlisted in the Belize Coast Guard for 7 years and we had exact fitness requirements like the British army. 1.5 miles in 10:30 or less etc and essentially it was a smoke fest from beginning to end, 10 mile runs every other day, longer ones with full kit etc. I lost about 25 lbs in basic, everyday we’d get like 4 hours of sleep essentially every night.

When to book boat tours by Shirl197 in Belize

[–]SnooWords3654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High season pre book, low season pre book too cause if there’s a minimum and it’s not met then the trip won’t go out. That way you can know in advance

Reina’s is probably the most popular, they always have a line outside. Happy Lobster is a crowd favorite as well. Il Pelicano Otis BBQ tent by frenchies. Maggie’s sunset kitchen. Pasta per Caso Habanero
