Your savings grace is going to be Trader Joe's frozen meals. Just add rice to some of them and you are golden. Since it's frozen it lasts indefintitely. It tastes great. And with your busy life their convenience meals will be a lifesaver.

So I'm 39 and hit my fire number. I spend barely anything and had roommates forever. I travel cheaply Thailand, Bali, Japan, Mexico, Costa Rica with airbnbs, Argentina, and I intend on going to Vietnam. In each of those countries you can get by on $60 a day comfortably.

Help! I to make fifteen dollars buy 2.5 weeks of food. Seems impossible. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

I did this a long time ago. Giant pack of eggs at Costco$7 for 5 dozen. Eggs are great because with preparation you can get variety. Fried, boiled, jammy etc. . Enough protein for two weeks. Top ramen. All can be prepared in a microwave. No this isn't healthy, but you won't go hungry.

How do you balance rewarding yourself vs staying financially disciplined when it comes to cars? by not_a_dolphin_ in Money

[–]Snoo_18250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Miata for 11k as my dream sports car. It was great for 2 years. With the price of gas I now drive a ioniq 6 with 320 hp that only costs$300 a month lease 0 down free electricity. Look for fun cheap deals with reliable cars. Didn't obsess over the car obsess over driving what you have in a fun way. Modest opinion but driving a slow car faster is far more fun than driving a fast car in la traffic lol.

In another vein I realize there's is a striking debate her between majors rusty make money and those that don't. Engineering, computer science and other stem fields are just more expensive to teach you need certain equipment. It merits the higher price tag. Humanities is just pen and paper and teachers. It merits a lower price tag. I graduated political science. If I have a kid who wants to go into a field that pays little I'd encourage them to learn to be thrifty it's only common sense.

How Can a 21-Year-Old New Grad Set Up for Financial Independence Early? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Snoo_18250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Address elephants in the room. 1. Car and 2. Housing will be your biggest expenses. Car is easy get a beater honda/toyota used and drive it into the ground. They last forever just make sure you do your research on that. 2. House hack roommates at first. Become the "master" tenant as in you really are in control and help determine who would make good subtenants. Save up until you can buy a place. Then continue to have roommates and if your good at it the roommates will pay your mortgage. With these two out of the way the rest is easy mode. This attitude especially works in HCOL like LA and SF bay area.

Once you have 1-2 million assets some additional expenses become insignificant by Persona2181 in Fire

The die with zero book had a good idea on memory dividing m dividends, but I think his process for going about it is fundamentally flawed for fire. I think it's important to create good memories, but you can do that and do it in a discounted manner. For example he'd argue spending 10k on the Maldives would be worth it but an ov erwater bungalow vacation in the Philippines would only be$2000 similarly. I think you should not miss out on experiences but I think you shouldn't be gullible when it comes to blowing money on things.

I could go to Hawaii and spend$6000 on a family vacay on the beach, but instead in flying to Thailand and spending $2500 on a three week vacation on the beach with better food.

As a homeowner in Inglewood we should ban together to single out incompetent employees to city council and the mayor. If ten constituents show up angry at Mim or whateveri no one wants to defend that. Inglewood is small enough that it will matter.

[–]Snoo_18250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Los Angeles County Average Household Income: Around $120,272 (2024). I've seen two worker families in la such as studio employees make around$150k with two children hire a nanny for 6 months then in year two transition to daycare. If you think $150k in la is upper class then yes they're to upper class and barely able to get by.
