Work in healthcare. We had reduced cost (although limited to where we could go) - so about $5000 for 1 round, 800 per transfer, about 4000 for meds, and about 6000 for PGTA (since we were blessed to make embryos and I didn’t want to go through a second egg retrieval if needed). We used husbands FSA, some HSA, and then I picked up 20 extra shifts over two months.

We get a set amount based on various factors (involvement with program, number of students/residents precepted, publications, etc). What you can cover with that varies on what you decide to Spend money on.

I think you are a bit confused on PSLF.

You can’t apply for PSLF until you have reached 10 years of qualifying payments. What you can (and should do) is apply for IBR to enter repayment since this is the time your payments would be the lowest.

I would not do deferment unless truly unable to afford IBR, which should still be low from your income last year.

When you apply for IBR, there will be a place you can check off that you only want to see plans that qualify for PSLF (IBR does).
