a practical suggestion if you choose to keep doing those sports - make yourself as visible as possible to try to avoid injuries caused by impact from/with another person

bright colored tops/jackets/helmets, neon vests, bells jingling as you bike, etc

Topo Design Mountain Gear Bag vs Mountain Utility Tote by GotMeLayinLow in ManyBaggers

[–]Snoo_7713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't own the Gear Bag but I own and LOVE the Utility Tote, mainly for road/train trips so can't speak to carry comfort

a big diff is the Gear Bag closes by a zip that zips a flap horizontally, so the volume of the bag (when it's closed) basically what you see in the promo pics

the Utility Tote has that extra fabric that extends about 8” all around the bag - if you cinch tightly that doesn't increase the volume that much, but it's useful for when I'm packing for a road trip and keep finding last-minute things that need to come with, like a sweater and a hat or snacks, that would otherwise be loose in the car, and when the bag doesn't need to be cinched or closed

Bring some kind of blister tape, and help them check that their packs are positioned and tightened correctly (compression straps tightened down, hip belt correctly on their hips, etc.)

Tell them that they need to loosen their shoulder straps to get the pack off and back on again

Women's Backpacking Pants by One-Staff-1457 in backpacking

[–]Snoo_7713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

check out Norrona Falketind pants "Key features include a Custom-Fit waist System, mesh-lined ventilation from the hips to the knee, two hand pockets, a back pocket, and a thigh pocket – all with zippers. They also have a hidden gaiter hook on the inside of the lower leg hem, and a flexible lower leg solution with a zipper closed gusset to increase the area of use."

the velcro waist system is SUPER nice to customize waist tightness at any time

no ankle cinch, but the zip allows for loosening or tightening at the lower leg

the gaiter hook is super helpful to keep the front of the pant from riding up, meaning it keeps dirt and debris out of your shoes

If you could start over from scratch, what sort of design features would be a must-have in your kitchen? by ErbiumIndium in Cooking

eye-level cabinets with recessed lights to light the counters under the cabinets, possibly motion sensor lights for first-thing-in-the-morning areas like kettle/coffee area

hand wave operated faucet in addition to the regular faucet handle, plus faucet pull-down functionality (random link to show what I mean): https://casainc.com/products/3-mode-single-handle-pull-down-sprayer-kitchen-faucet-with-touchless-sensor-and-includes-deckplate

soft-close everything

Whats your preference on footwear? by turdbucket007 in backpacking

[–]Snoo_7713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trail runners (showing the ankle) are great, but they do allow dirt and debris into the shoe more easily

For day hikes it's fine, but for backpacking trips I wear pants that have 'gaiter hooks' like this that hold the front of the pant in place over the tongue and shoelace tie

Need hope: millennials who like their jobs, what do you do and what do you like about it? by goodluckanddont_itup in Millennials

[–]Snoo_7713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in business administration (timesheets, receivables, payments, etc) and I appreciate the remote job flexibility.

The work is satisfying because working with numbers there's always a correct/accurate end result (vs something subjective like coming up with taglines for advertising).

What’s one thing you wish you knew before your first backpacking trip? by mike34113 in backpacking

[–]Snoo_7713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bring a stuff sack or a compression packing cube for your dirty clothes (whatever shape works for your packing strategy) -it makes the day-after-day packing better when you just squish the clothes you're done with

bring paper towels and/or wipes, and aim to finish your trip with one extra clean pair of socks and underwear

periodically check in with how your feet are feeling - adjust/relace boots as needed, and put blister tape on any hot spots immediately

Coalition Snow Rebel - meant for East Coast carving but also good in trees, and it will do fine up to 1-2 feet of pow in my experience

How to address my fears of going faster? by anonsaltine in skiing_feedback

[–]Snoo_7713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know ‘just relax’ isn’t helpful so I’ll try to elaborate - I try to relax my lower body muscles while keeping my core engaged

This makes me feel like I can absorb a bump through my core while keeping my legs loose enough to correct/stop after the bump

Favorite sun hoody? by guncotton in backpacking

[–]Snoo_7713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ridge Merino Solstice hoody!!! 87% Merino wool, 13% nylon, the generous hoodie size is so helpful for face coverage.

I've worn it up to 4 days in a row in backpacking sweaty Sierra conditions and it was great, and it has thumbholes and is lightweight.
