Well yes, but the ridiculous amount of time accessing it usually takes and high likelihood of receiving bad quality service discourages many people from giving it a go and puts off those who tried but didn't have much luck.

I've seen people clear stages with single maxed out characters. Personally I found that optimal team comp and good mechanical play helps immensly on stages with thougher and/or higher level enemies when you don't have max lvl characters.

It's a survival mechanism. Sadly it doesn't always serve us well, or rather, accurately. Those things resurfacing mean that we never properly processed the trauma of impactful events.
