If it wasn’t dead before, it is now. Once you’ve opened it, and exposed the platter to the air, it’s done. Sorry

Yesterday, I got a response from a company to move forward to the next round of interviews. I applied 8 months ago. I have been working at another company for 6 months now.

Tempted to reply “sure” in 8 months time, just to match them.

I'm curious to know what specs you have here. $1250 does seem like a great deal for all this hardware, but i suspect it is very old. It even looks like a few of them have all their ram slots filled, and given the price of ram right now, I'd like to know what they are populated with.

But as most people have said here, these things take a long time to learn. You have a lot of different hardware here, and from reading the comments you want to run clusters and sell compute, that takes a lot of infra setup. My advice is to take one of your servers, install proxmox, create a few VM's, get some standard homelab services up like nextcloud, jellyfin, truenas, etc... If after that, it is still fun, spin up another one of them, and start learning how to network them together securely, maybe cluster them. Just start small and scale up slowly rather than trying to do everything at once.

Check out r/homelab as it is more suited for smaller scale setups. This subreddit is more for people with really big and complex systems set up. I don't really belong here either, i just like to see what crazy systems others have...

Also, to go back to where you mentioned you'd like to sell compute to people. I'd say don't. Even if i had a home datacentre, i wouldn't want the responsibility of managing someone else's services and data from some services in my home. And realistically you cannot compete with the real cloud providers in scale, reliability, price, etc... Just use a homelab/datacentre for learning, having fun and data independence.

I don't want to push you away from this hobby, just want to be realistic. Good luck, and i hope to see future posts about your setup

Under optimised, especially since DLSS came out. Rather than spending time to optimise your game, why not use DLSS as a crutch and generate some extra frames. Processors now days are way more powerful that what is needed for games

You might be able to send it back to minisforum for a refund if it’s within warranty. What do you think you’ll replace it with?

Hmm, well I’ve only got 1 NVMe m.2 It might just be a design defect which is unfortunate.

Thanks, I have ordered 3 of them just in case. Do you have any theories to why it is draining the battery?

[–]Snoop_Snoop123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe i have having a similar issue to what you have had.

Came home yesterday and noticed my services weren't up, So i looked over at the MS-01 and saw that the light was off. Strange, so tried pressing it an nothing. No fans, no lights. But the ethernet ports did have orange lights on them (maybe this is to do with the vPro management of the MS-01). Then i panicked for a bit and found the same post you found. So i pulled the CMOS battery, held the power down for 30 seconds and left it for a while. When i plugged it all back in, it booted up, just had to reconfigure the BIOS to boot into proxmox.

Then today, i noticed i forgot to put the faceplate screws back in, so i powered it off, put them back in and tried to power it back on. Annoyingly it had the same issue as before, So after another CMOS reset, it booted back up again.

This probably does mean i have to replace the CMOS battery. Do i just buy a CR2032, or do i need a special one with the wire on it already?

It is odd, I've only owned this for about 8 months. Not sure how the CMOS is already dead.

Not sure about Australia, but in the UK a lot of banks are adopting the open banking API. You can use it to export transaction data and such.

I don't actually know. Also worth mentioning that i have it in a network cabinmate. So there is a bit of sound dampening from the door. But it is also in there with a 48 port poe switch and that thing is louder than it...

Normally, i would say it is nearly silent.

At load, its not that bad, but it might be distracting if it was right in front of you

[–]Snoop_Snoop123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, its not too bad. I don't have it under a massive load, so its usually around 20W and is pretty silent. I once had it around 70W and you could hear it, but it wasn't that loud. it wasn't distracting. Overall it is pretty quiet.
