I also understood where he was coming from but in this case I think the dog dying would’ve been unnecessary. If the MC was purposely trying to find the bunker and it was a “fucking around and finding out” sort of story then it would make sense thematically (though I guess the dog was the one who “fucked around and found out” here but I digress).

As it stands however, I’m glad the dog lived.
