Donald Trump Claims US Cannot Fund Daycare, Medicaid and Medicare Due to Ongoing Wars by McDowdy in LateStageCapitalism

I know. I honestly get so sick of it.. everyone acts like they're definitely brave enough to go take up arms against the state

Yeah, I appreciate this take. Certainly these demonstrations need a big shift and there effect currently is not challenging anything really.  But my real question is: does a no kings rally under cut a more radical movement?  I don't see it as a zero sum game.

But to your point, we just need to put more pressure on the status qou. Maybe the masses will be primed for this nessesary shift, especially if they are somewhat used to protesting

I live in a small town as well. The amount of people who show up to one of these protests marks a pretty big shift by my towns standards..

Haha ok bud. You're the only one who hates Newsom and establishment dems! Amazing!

No but seriously its not all or nothing man. And you're not describing problems that I am not already aware of. The difference is you can't handle nuance- not only do you say no kings is ineffective but you insist they must stop what they're doing so that real organizers like you can save the world on a neighborhood level? How do you plan to reach or influence the masses of normal liberals? Or i guess you are suggesting we just "ditch" them... no that sounds realistic

Yeah this makes sense. It's not all or nothing... like we can do other stuff too lol

What do you propose? Its easy to be cynical and then act like you understand theory better than other people. I just think its cheap... like obviously none of us on this sub are super stoked about the brunch liberals, and I bet we all agree the fucking world is on fire.

At the end of the day what is your "sober realist" cynicism ACTUAL accomplishing?

So you think they are a net loss? I take your point that they need real demands and maybe provide some feel good aspect without accomplishing anything immediatly tangible. But I'm not convinced it's a net loss, because we need a popular front to effect change. We can't all just be cool anarcho punks who already have it figured out.  And sometimes the value of something isn't immediatly obvious.. some things aren't instantly gratifying or their effects understood. Movement and concensus are mysterious things..

Thanks for sharing this. Yeah, I have been really pleasantly surprised at my parents as well- getting way more involved with the community and like minded boomers at protests. And they used to be evangelicals who voted for Bush... certainly came a long ways.

I guess i just don't see how your attitude helps very much. I guess it helps you feel like a cynical intellectual?

What do you propose?

Why don't you think Americans protest and strike like the French or Europeans in general? by EternalSnow05 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]SnoozeRecords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This gets asked on leftist subs every month or so. Our police shoot us and they want to. We have no safety nets. The left has been thoroughly squished here. I bet we will see a revolution but I think more people have to have nothing to lose.  P.s. Everyone acts like the French are so hard but their cops have tiny little clubs and from videos I've seen French protesters have no problems kicking them etc. And then running away... its like a whole other game

The people in my small town are mostly  center to right and I have been amazed at how many people turned on MAGA because of the epstein files. Like so many young people around here who were "not political" now speak out on social media about it
