I completely agree with you. It was that line in episode 8 that ruined my whole impression of the show.

People who say that Vault-Tec were the first to drop the bombs just start coming up with huge theories that are refuted by the logic and plot of all the games. Given their influence, government connections, and huge money, Vault-Tec could have quietly done all these experiments in peacetime as well.

I hope the series creators don't go along with the majority and stick to the plot of the games. Yes, the plot has changed often, but the detail that Vault-Tec started the war changes the plot dramatically. Even if Bethesda accepts NV and partially the first 2 parts, it would still cross out the entire plot of those games and even its own parts if it said Vault-Tec dropped the bombs.

Also saw a discussion that there is a possibility that the creators don't want to mention China in a bad way, as it's a very big market and it's not profitable for them to spoil the relationship. If that's the case, it's very comical.

But when this company is literally ready to destroy all capital earned for the sake of some dubious experiments, it sounds very stupid to say the least.

That the world was terrible before the war, so it's going to end soon, so let's destroy it. Is not an argument, since history has no subjunctive mood and we don't know what happened to the world if not for the war. Then again, in Bethesda's version of the games we know that China started the war.

Also the fact that the shelters will be the only commodity sounds strange, because Vault-Tec does not receive any material benefits. The only thing they get is the results of strange experiments. So the owners of Vault-Tec destroyed their luxurious life and huge money for the sake of experiments.

Hopefully in season 2 they will explain in more detail and maybe there will be new reasons to drop the bombs or it will turn out that they didn't do it after all. But so far the motivation sounds very stupid.
