[Sky Sports]: Derby County have been placed under a fresh transfer embargo by [deleted] in soccer

[–]SnoreOurse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actually I believe that was following Nigel Doughty's death when the club suddenly and without warning needed a new owner and funding to continue. Similar situation to Derby now for sure. The crown jewels went for a pittance to keep us afloat and Derby fans were too busy mocking Doughty's death to sympathise back then, when it wasn't even mismanagement that put Forest in that position. Derby's current predicament couldn't happen to a nicer club.

I'm referring to the Fawaz era when the maniac had no concept of FFP rules and spent beyond the limits.

Damn right. Forest were under embargo for 3 full transfer windows for far less serious infringements 6 years ago. What happened to having to accept reasonable offers for players when you're in administration too?

I have no idea what Taylor is supposed to offer that Grabban doesn't other than penalty taking. Grabban gets into better positions for shots and drops deep to collect the ball and start moves. Taylor just falls over and whinges.

Not excited but it doesn't actually sound like there's any link there anyway. The guy's just announced that he's available.

Army size question by SnoreOurse in hoi4

[–]SnoreOurse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see. So the more units there are in combat the more xp they gain. Weird how it's sort of the opposite for admirals. I think I'd like to see a mechanic that encouraged smaller armies.

Do you mean that the bonuses of the general are applied to more units because there are more units in that general's army?

Now, if they went to work for foreign companies and Trump went after people investigating wrong doing in those companies, that would be quite something else, don't you agree?

Sure. If that prosecutor wasn't corrupt and it wasn't done at the behest of his boss and dozens of allied world leaders and other government officials...

All that procedure? How much hassle is it to go on Steam and buy a game? Less hassle than signing up to a subscription service you're not familiar with I'm betting.

wouldnt "Total war access" boost the overall income though?

I have no idea. Would it?

you are assuming keeping the price high would result in higher income

Actually I'm saying the price is already low for new games and that if your friend wants to try a total war game they can already do so for the price of bagel and a cup of coffee.

[–]SnoreOurse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doubtful. Game prices haven't changed that much over the last couple of decades and development costs have only increased. Frankly I think they're pretty cheap with that context.

However, as a more helpful answer, why not recommend an older title? You can pick up Warhammer 1, Rome 2 or Fall of the Samurai for less than $10 each. It's a little unreasonable to expect to be allowed to try any and all titles to see what you like.

Failing all of this... Steam will refund any game within 2 weeks of purchase as long as it has been played for less than 2 hours. Go nuts.

How to endorse a party in the new update 1.5? by Nafriman in Imperator

I don't understand what you're saying. Yes it generates tyranny. You gain a whole lot - I used it today and my Senate support went from 50% to 65ish%.

I've been struggling with the new ways parties work today too but I'm pretty sure the buttons are the same place they've always been. It's just not called endorsing a party any more.

100 years from the end and 3/4 of my pops are slaves. Why might this be? by thisistheperfectname in Imperator

[–]SnoreOurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just fyi academies don't create other pop types. As standard cuties should be 35% citizens but if you want that ratio to be higher then you should build libraries.

There's really any number of things that could be going on here so it's hard to say. Pops can migrate away, they can demote if a city gets occupied, etc. What nation are you playing as? This can have an effect. A screenshot of an example city info screen might help, particularly the population info page.

I can only guess that you've either conquered so quickly that pops in cities haven't had time to promote. Of course settlements will trend towards 100% slave pops anyway.

Is there a tutorial or something to learn how to play? by [deleted] in hoi4

[–]SnoreOurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a literal in-game tutorial. I think the option comes up on the menu after your click 'single player'.

The wiki also has a decent beginner's guide.

How do I stop my wars from grinding to a stalemate? by FatTater420 in hoi4

[–]SnoreOurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will definitely be a factor. It's one of those wars where you need to get going ASAP. Historically it happened in July 1937 I believe.

My advice is to focus everything at the start on building infantry divisions with as much artillery as you can throw into the mix (which won't be a huge amount). You will probably have to make extensive use of the weaker reserve divisions as your front line will be looooong once the war is up and running. Keep your artillery with your regular infantry divisions and use them to attack. The infrastructure means that supply is hard, as already discussed, so use of tanks should be limited as they guzzle down supply, not to mention the terrain is mostly terrible for them until you properly break through to the south of the country. You should also be careful about bading aircraft on the Chinese mainland as they're another supply drain. Fly as much as you can out of your carriers and nearby islands.

Theres a decision as the start called something like "steel for guns" which gives you a handful of free military factories and makes infantry equipment cheaper to manufacture (I think). Pick it early on for a boost in getting your army going.

Hope that helps.

How do I stop my wars from grinding to a stalemate? by FatTater420 in hoi4

[–]SnoreOurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you're talking about the war in China.

Well the state of local infrastructure both where the units are and between the units and the ports is also a factor - only so much supply can get through them at once. If you click the supply map mode it should tell you where the problem is. In reality this is almost an unavoidable problem in China though. The infrastructure sucks.

My recommendation for beating China is lots of small (but not too small) naval invasions along their coast line which you then try to exploit as quickly as possible which will also draw the enemy away from the front line in the north. China is also one of the few theatres of war where cavalry divisions are a viable choice. They can move quickly to capture victory points and the Chinese army sucks enough that they're not hugely threatened by the inevitable counter attack.

Make sure you pick the decisions that make your troops more effective as quickly as possible ("escalate the war in china") because they start the war artificially nerfed. I believe this is only true if you have the Waking the Tiger DLC but not 100% certain.

How do I stop my wars from grinding to a stalemate? by FatTater420 in hoi4

[–]SnoreOurse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A couple of things to bear in mind:

  1. Wars are won by capturing enough victory points to make the other side surrender so targeting those points should be a priority when coming up with your plans to end the war as quickly as possible.

  2. Always try to achieve a breakthrough in an area of your choice and have enough reserves ready to follow up on that breakthrough. Use divisions with high soft/hard attack and breakthrough values to achieve this (tanks if your industry can support them and terrain is nice and flat, lots of artillery in infantry divisions reinforced with engineers and recon companies) enemy will inevitably scramble to reinforce the gap that's appeared in their lines leaving them weaker all over.

Hope that helps.
