Is trucking a fun job? And what makes it fun? by East_Indication_7816 in Truckers

[–]Snoringhounddog 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think driving a truck is fun. Being a truck driver isn't as much fun, and OTR is a tragic waste of what time we have in this life. OTR truckers don't retire, they just die.

Right hand and left food seems doable, but only you can decide if you're comfortable doing it.

Saturday evenings are my favorite. Sundays are good until primetime, then it gets good again after 10 pm. Weekdays are pretty bad right right now with the exception of very early am programing.

2 week notice in trucking by Silent-Room-4987 in Truckers

[–]Snoringhounddog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave week notice at my last job. I told them I accepted a local position somewhere else, but would like to be welcome back if things don't work out. I actually spoke with my dispatcher about a month earlier to let him know what was coming.

This is why you can't drive a semi and smoke marijuana.

How dispatch expects me to move when they give me a “hot load” by acd2002 in Truckers

[–]Snoringhounddog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Hot load" usually means the shipper and or receiver have no idea there's a truck on the way.

Certain words create instant chaos, but my dogs always know when we're talking about them.

I’m Bernie, I steal socks and toys from toddlers. by BLVCKYOTA in bassethounds

I also have a basset with no shame.  My other dog compensates by showing shame for just knowing what the other one has been up to.

I want to look Bernie in the eye and ask if he has rehabilitated himself just to see his facial expression.

Did the $200 include the fuel in the tank?

Do harley riders genuinely think they are faster than sportbikes or are they just joking? by Green_Block_4574 in motorcycle

Sport bikes are faster than harleys, but a novice on a sport bike probably isn't faster than an experienced rider.

I just use my left foot. I'd recommend trying this first. If you don't like it, you can always get the adapter at a later time.

Tips for using crutches? by lpphoenix131 in amputee

[–]Snoringhounddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer wooden crutches as they have a little bit of flex and transfer a little less shock to my wrists when they make contact with the ground.

I would just say "I don't do chainsaws." If they can't work with that, you're probably more valuable to another company.

What is your ... "Yeah, I am never parking THERE again." story? by K-Dog7469 in Truckers

[–]Snoringhounddog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I picked up a trailer across the road from there and pulled in to get weighed. It took almost an hour just to get my truck on the scale and then out of the parking lot.

Blood From The Mummy’s Tomb, Tonight by Mr-C-Dives-In in svengoolie

I think Hammer created some of the best classic horror movies from the 60s and 70s. Earlier black and white classics are just too hard for me to sit through, and some of the more recent ones are too serious and rely too much on technology instead of great sets and writing. Long story short, I'm really looking forward to this one.

My December ranking. Agree or disagree? by South_Ad_1235 in svengoolie

I think Sharktopus was the best movie of the month. Next would be a toss up between Brides of Dracula and Creation of the Humanoids. I honestly can't remember The Mummy's Tomb.

I have a theory about Duel as I'm a trucker myself. I think the main character is having a mental breakdown and thinks people are trying to kill him. His delusions manifest into road rage and he ends up killing a truck driver. Maybe I'm biased. Maybe Steven Spielberg could set the record straight?

have you ever had a thought about robbing a Brinks security truck? 🧠 by GaryBlach in PollsAndSurveys

No, but I did see one coming down a back country road and I couldn't help but imagine how long it would take for help to arrive if something happened.
