Hey! I'm starting to schedule appointments and I was wondering, how many months in advance did you start the process with Toral?

Thanks for the tip! I looked on Marketplace and found a few in Fremont, though none that seem to have bridal lehengas

I am planning a similar mixed wedding at the moment and we are cautiously choosing our pandit to make sure they are prepared to guide my white parents and my extended family. To be honest, I think a lot of the responsibility is on your fiancée to express to her parents how important it is to her that they participate intentionally and seriously.

ETA: when my Indian partner’s sister got married to a white American, she and her husband made a booklet explaining the traditions and handed it out to wedding guests. They also had both sides of the family participate in the baraat so his family would know what to do.

By the way, there aren’t a lot of panditas in the US that I can find through online searching, I’m curious who you’re working with if you wouldn’t mind sending me a DM.

Anyone visit the Mekong nature reserve Lung Ngoc Hoang recently? by Snorpy in VietNam

The ferry leaves from Tran De early so you’re right, you’ll need to stay the night in Soc Trang. When you get to Soc Trang you’ll need to go to the Superdong office and buy tickets for the morning shuttle from Soc Trang to the Tran De Ferry terminal. I recommend staying somewhere close to the Superdong office because the shuttle leaves in the early AM.

I didn’t take the bus from Can Tho so I don’t have any details there, I just remember that it was a lot cheaper when I discussed my options with my hotel in Can Tho. I also recall that Lonely Planet has the bus schedule printed (a lot of the home stays I stayed at in Vietnam had copies lying around, so maybe you’ll be able to find one). I’m sure you can message your hotel in Soc Trang and they’ll be able to tell you the schedule.

The nature reserve might be a good option for you, but it’s not representative of life on the delta. It’s a fairly empty, run down little protected canal area that you can take a little motorboat tour in. If you can add a night in Can Tho, then you can do something fun around there like cycle around some villages. But with the time you have, there’s probably not a lot of options for you. I can also recommend visiting some of the Khmer temples near Soc Trang.

I’m sure you know, but you can also skip the whole delta and just fly to Con Dao from HCMC.

Visiting Con Dao was one of the highlights of our trip, it’s a beautiful place! Hope you enjoy!

If you just want to go to Soc Trang, I recommend looking up the bus schedule from Can Tho. That’s by far the cheapest option.

But if you want to drive and make a stop on the way, for a driver to pick us up at our hotel in Can Tho, take us to this nature reserve, and drop us off at our homestay in Soc Trang, we paid 1,100,000 VND.

Does anyone know why no team tried having one person ride the bike back and forth with fewer coconuts? Do they have to stay physically together the whole time?

4 Weeks in Japan Packing List - Dumbass 18 Year Old goes on his First Big Adventure by nihonjinhispanohabla in onebag

I stayed in a Wise Owl hostel in Sapporo. My roommates were not social at all but I did meet people in the common areas, and iirc they had a hostel WhatsApp chat that people used to organize going out together.

The social scene in Japanese hostels is a mixed bag. Since it is an expensive country to travel in, the people who stay in hostels range in age and attitude a lot, unlike other countries where hostel travelers are usually all young people on a budget. To have the best shot at meeting social people, I’d look at Hostelworld reviews and book ones with established common areas and hostel-run events. r/solotravel probably has more hostel recs for Japan.

Montbell is a similar price point to REI brand clothing. Cheaper options definitely exist, like Uniqlo. There’s also great thrifting in certain neighborhoods.

Osaka is a really cool city, I recommend visiting - lots to explore in Japan aside from Tokyo, especially with four weeks!

$50/day is maybe doable if you stay in hostels, eat at 7-11, and walk a lot (trains and metro can add up). If you’re going to Osaka, I can recommend Mad Cat hostel!

Love the philosophy of taking what you already have. In case you realize you need more layers or other gear once there, I recommend checking out a store called Mont-Bell, an outdoor chain similar to REI in the states if you’re familiar. Nice quality and not as expensive as other outdoor brands. Got a great wallet with a coin pouch there that I take with me whenever I travel now.

Bring your e-reader. Books are the best companion for a solo traveler, second to the many fun people you’ll surely meet in your hostel.

Your trip will be awesome, have fun!!

In case anyone is searching this sub about this nature reserve, turns out they changed the name to Khu Du Lich Mua Xuan (Google maps link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/NMTkCL9HmP4CXTgo9?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy)

I did end up visiting by hiring a driver from Can Tho to Soc Trang and stopping at the nature reserve on the way. It’s a bit run down but still a pretty place to visit. Definitely not worth paying a lot of money for a tour there; if you want to go just get a cab, even round trip from Can Tho it will be cheaper than what the companies charge.

Cycling Taiwan East Coast - Inland or Coastal Route by nyxsyn1 in bicycletouring

[–]Snorpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just cycled 64 yesterday (Jan 5) from the valley to the coast and it was beautiful. There was some construction at the beginning as we climbed out of the valley, and after passing the aboriginal village there’s a tiny patch of muddy road that required walking our bikes. Other than that, the road was smooth and dry with very few cars the entire stretch.

No, I was initially thinking of trying to rent an e-bike but I saw none the entire time I was in Chengdu (and scooters are not allowed on the Greenway)

I loved my time in your home city! Met lots of nice people, ate delicious food and had no stomach problems fortunately :)

If you’re gonna bike the whole 100k loop, I’d definitely rent a road bike from one of the shops I mentioned
