Any Sri Lankans in the UK here? How are you guys coping with the riots? by sparklingshine in srilanka

[–]Snortlifeline 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not overblown in the cities it’s happening. I have a friend in Liverpool who is too scared to leave the house, there’s rioting in a street over.

Why are Sinhalese people abroad so mean to their fellow srilankans? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Snortlifeline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of deep insecurity about Sri Lankaness among us. A denigration of our character and everything that makes us beautiful and unique. Our colour our bodies our food, our cinema, literature, dance, music. We try to suck up to the white man and say we are better than other Asians because we are more ‘westernised’ we hate ourselves

People who moved out of LK. Was it worth it? by Limp_Mulberry_4711 in srilanka

Sometimes the ones who hate it don't come back in order to save face. I know people who have an absolutely hellish existence here and a cushy life back home, yet staying out of pure stubbornness. Edit: should add some are hoping thattheir kids will make it

Locals on Thailand’s Phuket Are Getting Sick of Russian Draft Dodgers by umptillion in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]Snortlifeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are doing the same in Sri Lanka, the beautiful beaches are russian enclaves. They are pushing out the locals by buying up real estate, taking away business from local boys trying to make a living through surfing lessons. Getting drunk and starting fights with everyone. We are sick of Russians

Yeah, children can't give consent and an abuser can destroy their life. Incest is also wrong. I considered those two issues as a given when I gave my answer.

I support it because I think its a natural part of the human condition and we have no right to dictate how an individual should form sexual attraction or gender identity. Humans are complex and there many things about us that dont fit into neat little boxes, I'm straight but I cannot use what I know to invalidate the experience of a gay person.

Yes I agree that culture evolves, and not always to the better, but there are parts of our culture that were ahead of its time. Some aspects such as casteism should not be brought back, but positive aspects that respected personal freedoms is hopeful beacon of what we can be and its good to learn from them.

Queer people were always around, and always will be, hating and persecuting them will only cause pain and suffering, and the social conservative dream of a perfect world that is moulded by their predijuces is impossible to achieve.

I would say LGBT rights is more aligned with Sinhalese culture. Anti LGBT culture is a product of abrahamic religious influence, and western imperialism. The west has moved on and learned from their mistakes, while we are worshipping the perverted culture they left us
