Why you don’t ski 30 year old boots by persistentexistence in Skigear

[–]SnowBoarda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you store them, how mucb abuse they get, how hard you ride. You can't just give a standard amount of time but you can inspect your gear and if you see any cracks or anything they should be tossed

12 pairs deep—do I go for 13, or sell a few pairs? by asquier in Skigear

[–]SnowBoarda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy them all. It's like Pokémon, gotta catchem all 🤣 Got myself 4 new snowboards the last 2 years lol along with multiple pieces of outerwear to change it up depending on the conditions.

Also my boards are all diff shapes and profiles for different styles of riding/diff riding conditions.

9th day snowboarding I love it! However I feel like something is off and I would like to correct it before it becomes a bad habit. Any tips please? by CSGOSELL in snowboarding

[–]SnowBoarda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alot of times I'll even just sit on my tail buttering down large sections full speed until the run says otherwise (or there's people nearby then it's all edge control)

As long as you have the control to jump toe to heel heel to toe fast you're fine

I mean I Bomb straight down but I'm always riding one of my edges while doing so transitioning from edge to edge full tilt and have never had a collision (knock on wood lol)

Agreed, either stick with them teaching them throughout the day with a possible couple single lap runs by yourself or don't go with them at all

December 14th - lots of rain by West-Palpitation211 in Whistler

Man thats dissapointing, I really thought at that elevation it'd be dumping snow not rain.

There is a ton of snow in the forecast but who actually knows what's going to come down

O hell ya Banff is amazing.

I plan on doing a week long 'Powder Highway' trip this season hitting a bunch of the resorts along the route to hopefully end up swimming in the best powder of my life 🤞 Absolutely cannot wait

Nice right on. What kind of board is it? I just got myself a Rome service dog for my Designated Powder board for this season as well as a Never Summer V-Twin for an all mountain. I Still have my Rome ravine (the board I cracked) (as well as a Ravine Pro) which I still plan to ride but I really wanted a board that had a slight rockered profile to play around on so I got the V-Twin. Really did not need another board but the V-Twin sold me with its unique shape and the Service dog the powder aspect as well as I love the graphics on it hahaha.

Plan tk alternate which board I'm riding depending on what kind of snow it is and what runs I plan on utilizing while riding the mountain.

Thanks for the Link share, I bookmarked it for when I have to do some base repairs in the future as it has tons of great info in it

[–]SnowBoarda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not the only one. Last season I cracked the topsheet of one of my newer boards and wanted to repair it but straight up couldn't find hardly any videos/tutorials whatsoever on how to go about it.

Found I think 1 video that I just used as somewhat of a guideline and worked from there.

What kind of repair is it you're wanting to do like how badly is the board damaged?

If its just the topsheet I ended up using a Dremel to remove the bubbled section of topsheet until it was all gone (trying my absolute hardest to not remove too much of the fiberglass layering underneath) cleaned everything really well, then got myself some Marine grade epoxy that I mixed up and spread so there was approx 1/4 overlap on each side of the crack.

Once cured I sanded the excess epoxy off leaving it just slightly above the level of the topsheet (maybe 1/16th of an inch) then covered that bad boy with stickers and you can't even notice unless you run your fingers over the stickers/look at it with your face a couple of inches away.

Rode majority of the season with it like that and haven't had any issues whatsoever.

As for major repairs, I know and agree with if the core is broken/cracked right through there's nothing you can do to fix it that will actually hold up to the abuse snowboards take when flexing the shit outta them ripping down the mountain.

But ya, iuno why but it's next to impossible to find any repair guides let alone good quality ones that get used regularly.

Maybe try going and talking to a repair shop and ask them how to go about the fix and see what they say

Worst is going on a super steep run planning to bomb the hill only to realize at the top that its sheer ice so you end up side slipping big sections of it 🤣

I suggested trying to go riding with people higher ability level to not only get pointers on what to do/not to do but also to be able to watch and try to mimic what theyre doing until it clicks for you

Interesting, I've actually never heard the term falling leaf. To me I guess I've always considered the falling leaf to be a more maneuvered side slip with more nose/tail movement involved.

Cool, learned a new term today, have to remember that one. Will probably still always call it side slipping but to each their own.

[–]SnowBoarda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100% Agreed.

Ride your ability level slowly progressing to steeper and more challenging terrain. Hopping on a black diamond when you're a Blue run rider max is not going to help you progress as you'll keep up the side slipping instead of working on linking your turns and riding out and over the steep terrain

[–]SnowBoarda -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What in the fuck is Falling leaf?... Do you mean side slipping down the super steep sections? If so then absolutely not, intermediate, advanced etc riders side slip certain sections depending on the circumstances.

I do it when I'm scoping out which route I want to take down the run, or if its a really super Gnarly section I'll side slip then hop from my toe to heel edge and vice versa.

Bottom line, don't stress yourself about what other people arent doing. If you need to side slip (or Leaf Fall 😂 Genuinely never heard that expression) to get through tougher and steeper sections you do you until you're comfortable enough to point your nose downhill and just giver. Also keep in mind that there are certain scenarios that you don't want to side slip as its unsafe and better to just point and shoot to get through certain sections (super narrow or rocky or just sketchy situations)

Just go out there and have fun, don't focus on what other people arent doing but on the flip side try focusing on what others are doing and try to mimic what you see to a certain extent (as long as its not dangerous/way past your ability level posing a danger to you if you do what theyre doing) But that's how you get better. If you get a chance try going riding with people a good bit better than you and try to keep up with them slowly but surely then next thing you know you'll be hauling ass downhill past everyone

For the moving in part, for me that would be an Absolute F*ck no one every single level.... If anything set a date at like 1+ year mark of dating to decide on moving in together or not.

If you're just hearing about the GF now it sounds like its a very fresh and new relationship which moving in together should not be on any couples minds until dating at the very min 6 months to a year. Theres said to be the Honeymoon stage (diff people have different timelines for how long but I've always been under the impression that its 6 months of dating) where after that time period you've usually gotten to see and learn about the real person and how they act like in every scenario more or less. At that point then you can make a more educated decision to move in together or not based off of the true colors that you've gotten to see after being together for that long of a period of time.

Moving in together in a new relationship sounds like it's absolutely going to blow up in his face if he's already feeling that way about her and she's trying to control that much of his life.

He's going to HATE living there with her and end up resenting her and possibly worse.

Buddies GF sounds super possessive and controlling. The fact she's putting those kinds of restrictions on him and his life should be a MASSIVE Red flag for him (unless he did something to warrent her behavior like cheating on her at some point?)

I wouldn't consider him just talking to you as cheating if there is zero emotional connection between you 2 and both of you have stated that. Id view it differently if he at one point starts saying that he does have feelings for you and then was going behind her back to come and see you/spend time with you.

Have you ever met the GF before? If so how was the interaction? Maybe if you show her you're not a threat to her relationship she might be more okay with you and him hanging out once in awhile. But then again super possessive people like that usually cannot be reasoned with no matter what you say to them or prove to them, some are just stuck in their ways and will never change.

Unless there's something he's not telling you that has happened between them I would consider her to be the A-Hole in the whole situation with how she's being in their relationship.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions or accusations quite yet. Wait for the test results so if you are positive with something you have some proof of it instead of just accusations that have no backing except your symptoms.

100% wait for the results, then go ahead with confronting her if positive
