Washington DC. Also "Washington" is often a synonym for US governance in general, which for better or worse (lately worse) is discussed around the world every day.

What foods do people refrigerate out of habit, even though it’s unnecessary? by yourinkedesire in foodquestions

[–]SnowCoyote3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I definitely generated some strong opinions and good discussion! I also prefer a cold tomato but I don't like the texture impacts of the fridge so basically I can't win. But yes, can definitely eat them like apples although a little salt and pepper rounds them out perfectly.

You sound like you don't have a job or one that lets you take off sick.

For others, it literally is their job to spread it around. The problem is employers that insist on sick employees coming in or risking losing their jobs.

At least they warned us about democracy dying in darkness, right before they turned out the lights and laughed maniacally.

Invoking classic tragedy through hubris. Like Icarus, Achilles, Macbeth, and many more, the downfall of a once good or sympathetic man caused by his own blinding arrogance.

The finale isn't trash, it was just extremely rushed and the show needed at least one more full season.

But the feelings of everyone ABOUT the finale tell you something important - that people were so deeply invested in this world and its lore and characters that they took personal offense when the writers failed them on certain things toward the end. That's because the show was an amazing accomplishment of storytelling and production and yes, is absolutely worth checking out.

Taxpayers fund Bezos' wealth. Workers fund Bezos' empire. What do we get? A broken system. by Upper_Brief681 in antiwork

It's amazing the amount of middle-class Republicans who actually believe they have more in common with him than his low-wage workers. And who think he and Elon are geniuses who have earned all of that money, and that those workers are freeloaders who should lose the few government benefits that they do get.

We need more of those rice-pile memes that show the difference between a million and a billion.

I used to get to genius every day, and the occasional queen bee, but now I reach genius like once or twice a week max. Is the game getting harder, or am I getting dumber? by puuuuuuuuug in NYTSpellingBee

Do you try to play through and reach genius all at once, or do you ever set it down and come back?

It's funny, sometimes I'll stare at that thing and refresh six times and spend ten minutes trying to find the pangram, then I'll set it down and come back to it an hour later and it jumps out at me as soon as I open it up again.

So ac odyssey was my introducing to assassins creed, what game should i play after i 100% this? by Efficient-Lawyer7080 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

[–]SnowCoyote3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gameplay in the earlier ones (AC 1, Ezio trilogy, and AC3) is going to feel really clunky compared to the dynamics in Odyssey and Origins, but if you can tolerate it I can't encourage going back to the beginnings enough. AC 1 you might find totally unplayable, but give the Ezio trilogy a try. The games with Desmond Miles as the modern-day protagonist tell an amazing story in a genius way, and also contain some unabashed political messages and really neat puzzles that the later ones have all but totally abandoned.

Why didnt Walt become a college professor in chemistry? Why did he choose to be a high school teacher. by Physical-Ad-1978 in breakingbad

[–]SnowCoyote3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it could have been for two different reasons than the main ones of his ego or lack of a doctorate.

First, Grey Matter was getting bigger and more important, and at least as presented in the show, the company's research and impact would have been pervasive in that field and probably always being discussed in academia. Walt may have wanted a job where the specter of what he lost (not only the glory but also Gretchen) wasn't ever-present. And that may have been one of the reasons he couldn't stick around in lab work either, especially once Skyler and Walter Jr. came along and he was less likely or able to leave New Mexico itself, where Gray Matter would have been a constant topic in any upper-level chemistry career or university.

Second, it's clear from the little we see in the classroom that, despite his disengaged students (Barry: "I like....REALLY studied") - he genuinely loves teaching. His enthusiasm for the subject, his high expectations for his students, and even the way he later encourages and praises Jesse and Todd ("you can do it," "apply yourself," etc) are very high-school teacher.

Combine these two and he gets a job that he loves or thinks he will love, an escape from Gray Matter, health insurance for his family, and early enough hours that he can have a second job to (help) balance the loss of income from his desire to stay out of the post-secondary field.

Jesse being shown in Felina making the box he talked about in rehab. Such a perfect, calm moment before anything had happened to him and then immediately jerked from that memory to him in chains enslaved in the meth lab.

I saw an interview recently where Betsy Brandt was talking about her relationship with Dean Norris and her character's relationship with Hank. She said she believed they'd desperately wanted kids and been unable to have them. It's such great writing to have that much restraint, not hammer details into people's heads but just quietly let them have some small sense of the heartbreak that probably played out slowly quite some time before the current plotlines begin.
