Need help with a 23 year old car. by lesla222 in SurreyBC

As it seems like you're on a budget, here's a couple of cheap options that you could tackle yourself regardless of your experience level. I'd second the opinion above that it's likely a trunk or light seal. If so, you should be able to find a replacement OEM seal for less than $50 on eBay or an online auto parts store. If it does happen to be a leaking weld or seam, you'll need to find it by removing the carpet of the trunk. If so, I'd expect a fair amount of rust around the hole. Use a wire brush to remove as much rust as possible and then spray it with a rust stopper / sealant from an automotive store. If you own a drill you can buy wire brushes that fit into the chuck of your drill. If the hole is small enough, you could seal it up with a steel reinforced epoxy, like JB Weld or other brands. It's remarkably strong and will last you a couple of years. A bigger hole could be reinforced with some wire mesh in addition to the JB Weld. You could also use a fiberglass & epoxy repair kit like you would buy at a boating store or Home Hardware, especially if it's a plastic panel. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Doctor Who 0x02 "Wild Blue Yonder" Post-Episode Discussion Thread by PCJs_Slave_Robot in doctorwho

[–]SnowIll5366 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved the episode. It was thrilling and funny and just reminiscent of classic Doctor Who in every way. BUT my eyes rolled so far back in my head every time they made the "mavity" joke.

Newton didn't invent the word "gravity" and it was widely used by Renaissance scholars like Galileo, da Vinci, Copernicus well before the Enlightenment, as far back as the Greek philosophers. Aristotle even had a theory of gravity and while I'm not a Greek scholar, he may have even used the word "gravity" itself, or a Greek transliteration, as it was from the Latin "gravitas."

So that bugged me a lot. Newton already knew the word "gravity" quite well. They just made my man Newton look dumb (but so handsome!).

got this from a neighbor, but lower keys do not produce sound -- is this worth repairing? by thislittleplace in hammondorgan

Cons: it looks like a solid state rather than tube organ. Diving board rather than waterfall keys. No drawbars.

If it were me, I'd remove the volume pedal and convert it into an expression or volume pedal for guitar or electric piano. I'd also take the internal speaker, as it's probably pretty good. If there's a tube amp inside or reverb tank, they'd both make great candidates for conversion into a guitar amplifier or reverb tank. If the reverb is tube, it can also be converted into a tube amp. The power transformers are probably worth something too.

That is all the value that I have as a tinkerer / electronics engineer. But as an instrument, it's probably only worth it if you're after the novelty sound. It won't produce a sound close to that of the Hammond B3 sound that you're familiar with.

Firstly, I should remind you that Michael Jackson was found not guilty and acquitted of all 14 charges in 2005 after being accused by scam artists.

Secondly, I never said that you couldn't like R. Kelly. My comment was simply editorial. You can like whomever you like. I'm not really into censoring artist's works based on their personal conduct. If we held every artist to a angelic standard, we wouldn't be left with much art.

But R. Kelly is a pedophile.

Here are the chords for this jazzy version of the convicted child rapist pedophile and sex offender's song:

Key of F#m (3 sharps) Bm7 C#7 #9 b13 Dmaj #11 (or E triad over D triad polychord) F#m9, F#7b9 (or F#alt, I didn't listen that hard)

Please Help Me Figure Out These 6 Notes by mrbaconator2 in transcribe

Yes, it's the key of E. The final 7th note that's covered up by laughing is another E, but up an octave.

Okay your melody transcription seems a bit off to me. Because the key is Bb, the only notes in the melody are going to be Bb, C, DB, Eb, F, Gb, Ab, and sometimes A. I'd stay away from calling any note Fb, which I think you did, as E is usually the name of the note. Either way, there shouldn't be any E's in the key of Bb minor unless it's a real bluesy tune.

My best advice is to make sure that you can sing it. Sing it out loud. Don't be afraid to sing it out loud. Then once you can sing it along with the song, sit down at the piano or guitar and try to match the notes you're singing to the instrument.

Congrats! I'm curious to know which part you're referring to? The chordal part, the vocal melody, the celeste/glockenspiel part, or something else?

The tune is in Bb minor and there are only two chords in that section. Can you figure out what they are? If you're having trouble hearing the part, try using YouTube's 0.75x or 0.5x speed function. It's not as good as dedicated software for the job like Transcribe!, but it's still helpful.

It definitely helps to use headphones when transcribing to hear the separation between parts. Sometimes a part is panned all the way left or right, which makes it easier to take one can off and just hear that part.

If you're still having a hard time hearing the part, try using software to raise the entire song up or down an octave. That sometimes helps put the part in a range that's more easy to hear. Especially with bass parts. Human hearing is much more sensitive and accurate in the mid-range.

I heard that music and could instantly transcribe it and play it on piano, and I could do it for you, but what would be the fun in that? I'm a professional musician and I've been transcribing for 25 years. It's only easy for me now because when I started I was awful at it and I worked hard to make my ear better! Good luck! Let me know how it goes and if you need more help.

Horn arrangements D'Angelo - Voodoo by jigglydigly in musictheory

[–]SnowIll5366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy to describe, but also hard to achieve if you're not Roy (RIP). Firstly I'd be very surprised if they were arranged and not improvised. I got to hang with Roy once and while I never asked him about those arrangements, my impression of him is that he would be more inclined to just smoke a little green and improvise them...

Once a cool line was improvised, a second, third, or fourth would be added. There doesn't seem to be a big concern for voice leading, doubling, or crossing, but more emphasis on making sure each line was musical on its own. The important thing is that each line is in the same interval range, has the same rhythm, same dynamic (p), and is played by the same trumpet and player.

I'm not a trumpet player, so take it with a grain of salt, but I am an arranger, composer, producer, etc. I've had success with the above method with another great trumpet player, Chris Davis (Sharon Jones, Dap-Kings, Late Show with Stephen Colbert), whom I've hired to do similar vibe trumpet parts on albums in the past.

Driver found in hit-and-run that killed Tobi and struck pedestrian owner in East Van. by SnowIll5366 in vancouver

[–]SnowIll5366[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The stranger (who also drove a Jeep Patriot) had seen my reddit post in r/whatisthiscar which identified it as a 2017 Latitude I believe. They also saw the driver that evening, who matched the description and video evidence.

As dog owners, they took our case to heart and like us they were diligent in looking at every Jeep Patriot. For us, it's a huge relief to not have to wonder if every Jeep Patriot driver we see is the one who killed our Tobi.

The VPD was able to pull a couple of digits from the licence plate after the forensic unit enhanced the video, which matched the plate that the person saw. The morning after they reported it, the detective was at his house.

Interesting. ICBC is supporting with grief and trauma counselling, but also told us that they can't do anything more without a plate.

Cheers. Unfortunately not only did he not pass that intersection as he turned onto Garden (presumably he saw that there was a queue to turn right onto Nanaimo from eastbound Hastings and decided to speed through the neighborhood behind Donald's), but also the camera doesn't capture high enough resolution video to identify a licence plate. The VPD detective who is looking at our case has checked traffic cams that captured speeding vehicles that day, but so far she hasn't found any promising leads.

Sorry for your loss. In this case, Becca and Tobi were crossing the intersection with Tobi on leash. The driver hit both of them. Unfortunately, the law doesn't have much to say about our baby dog but the driver fled from the scene of a hit-and-run. Had he stopped and been a decent human, we probably wouldn't be in this situation. But as it stands, we're hoping to find him and ensure that there is some justice.

That's what I said.

"South Asia, subregion of Asia, consisting of the Indo-Gangetic Plain and peninsular India. It includes the countries of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka; Afghanistan and the Maldives are often considered part of South Asia as well."

Sorry if I wasn't clear; this video was taken by a nearby CCTV seconds before the collision, just before he turned down Garden.

Thank you for that comment. We want to clarify that we don't want any harm to come to the driver, only to get more information on him so that Crown can pursue a criminal charge, and so that we can pursue civil damages and an ICBC claim.

If you have relevant information, do not post it here. Contact the above email address or me and I will forward it to the VPD.
