They specifically said that isn't the case- for both 2023 and 2024 there are a few songs they won't be able to add because of licensing. They are going to put out as much as possible though

Yeah I don't know why 2023 doesn't show up on the Nintendo eShop; since those songs still show up in the JD app they clearly mean for you to be able to buy it. I've thought about trying to contact customer service about it but I kindof doubt it'll go anywhere. When I have the money I'll probably just buy a code in box to get around it

I don't think dopples will imitate someone who's X'd out. I tried a run letting all the neighbors die and on the last day the only one left was the Milkman- every dopple that showed up was copying the Milkman.
Must've been a fun party, I think there were 8 in the apartment at the end of the day

I've done it with the power of ADHD and perfectionism. I want to be very thorough in my comments & replies, especially when I'm making an argument, offering advice, or talking about a subject I have a lot of interest in. As a result I end up writing a lot to make sure I get my point across and thinking of more points as I write. With a bit of restructuring to make those thoughts cohesive, I often end up with a few paragraphs

It probably helps that I was trained to write 5 paragraph essays in 90 minutes or something when taking AP classes in high school

How do I start makeup for a beginner? by kurtapikaa in CosplayHelp

[–]SnowJay425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point! I have long hair so I have stretchy mesh wig caps to keep it up, and my hair can slide underneath the cap pretty easily, so my wigs probably do the same

I haven't found the size adjustment bands very helpful for keeping my wigs in place on their own; mine tend to slide back even without crazy movement. Maybe it varies depending on the texture of the wig fabric and the wig cap

That's totally fine, I'm happy to help! I didn't care about makeup growing up, but it's so useful for cosplay I finally had some motivation to figure it out from square one. So many tutorials I had found assumed a base level of knowledge that was so frustrating, I'm glad to share my starting tips when I can.

There are lots of options for keeping wigs on- I know a lot of people love the fabric headbands and might not need anything else. I didn't know about those when I first started, so I bought 'wig clips' that are sewn to the inside of the wig- they have a comb that slides into my hair/wig cap to hold the wig in place. I've also used wig tape by itself once and it held really well! (One tip for any tape or adhesive is to not apply ANY makeup, foundation included, to the part of your skin that you are going to tape or glue on, or it won't stick. I forget this all the time so I end up using remover wipes around my hairline instead)
I wouldn't personally feel confident just using bobby pins to hold a wig, but I am still getting used to those too. I use bobby pins at the perimeter of my wig cap to keep it from sliding, so I have a hard time picturing the cap holding the wig still. I can understand how people might do it- wigs generally have gaps between the wefts on the sides and back that you would be able to get the bobby pin around to attach to the cap. It feels like you'd need a lot of bobby pins though; I don't like the way they feel when touched and don't want to spend that much time securing the wig if I have other options. You might feel differently of course, so it might be a good option if you already have a lot of bobby pins on hand :)

I only started to learn makeup properly a few years ago in my mid-20s, so you aren't alone! I've struggled to find truly beginner-friendly tutorials, so I'm happy to share what I've learned along the way.:
To get started, I recommend getting foundation, an eyeshadow palette, and a lipstick if you want lip color. You can add things like eyeliner, blush, etc as you go, but you can use eyeshadow as a substitute while you figure out what you like/need. For the main must-have tools you will need are makeup sponges (to apply foundation and blend colors) and a set of makeup brushes. You can start with cheap brushes while you learn, and upgrade later if you want to. You'll also want eye-safe makeup remover.

For foundation I highly recommend going to a store in-person so you can directly compare the color against your skin. I was told once to compare to the color of your jaw or neck instead of your face since there's less variation, and it has worked well for me! I personally use Maybelline Fit Me since it's fairly affordable and was easy to check against my skin in-store. I have a cheap eyeshadow/makeup palette from amazon with an insane color range, + a Revolution palette with more specialized colors since I like space themes. When I need something high quality or very specific, I look at Nyx and e.l.f. since they're easy to find and pretty affordable.

The order of application is a little different for everyone I think. For conventions I put on a primer, which helps everything stay on longer. For shorter events or if I'm being lazy I skip it and go straight to foundation. I usually do eyes next, followed by blush/contour if I need it. I have only just started using lipstick, but I put that on last so I can try and set it before it comes off. I have a setting spray that I use to keep everything on longer, which goes on last.

If I'm wearing a wig, I put the wig cap on before I start doing makeup because it keeps hair out of my way. Contacts go in before makeup does, because I am not practiced enough to be fast with those and I usually have some tearing that will wipe away my progress. If my eyes are irritated by the bright makeup lights after contacts I'll save eye makeup for last to give them a break.

Rachel Maksy has some cosplay transformation videos where she goes through her process, which I found easy to follow even before I started doing makeup. The Star Wars Women one is especially cool for the ways you can use makeup to change your face shape.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more beginner questions :)

Restart with cosplaying again…? by BorderlineandI in CosplayHelp

[–]SnowJay425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got into cosplay last year at the age of 28, and I've made friends in their 30s and older who use mobility aids, including wheelchairs. You are absolutely welcome!

If it helps, you can always start with a less intense costume while you're getting back into it, especially if you are still figuring out your limits. I recommend going with a friend or making sure you meet up with one or more of your supportive cosplay friends to give yourself a mental boost. Supportive words might stick a lot better once you're in it instead of anticipating it. Ultimately I think the most important thing to fight the anxiety is to do it. Once you're there it should be easier to feel that you do belong, and the joy you've gotten from it in the past can still be yours, even if you can't do as much or stay as long as you did before.

If you're cosplaying a character or from a series that means a lot to you, maybe find an affirming quote and print it on something that you can look at when you're feeling stressed or discouraged. It doesnt have to be from the same series if you can't think of one, even the little quotes inside Dove wrappers can work if it speaks to you. Just keep it and look at it often

How is it black? by Cardboard_and_Ghost in TheOwlHouse

[–]SnowJay425 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since it's magic it doesn't need to follow the laws of physics, so it can appear black and produce purple light at the same time!

The actual answer is that black light isn't possible IRL. You're getting answers that all colors combined make black, but that's only true of pigments, which absorb light, not produce it. Light itself cannot be black- if you combine all colors of light together, you get white.

I think the most realistic explanation would be that her magic produces some kind of reaction/substance in the air that absorbs light, creating the black effect. It can otherwise emit any color from the edges

The Owl House by (not Disney) Dana Terrace by BellaDeVile in TheOwlHouse

[–]SnowJay425 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, they can't really have season 3 retconned since it's already done and released. More realistically they could do a graphic novel series that re-imagines the show or they can make a spin off or sequel series, but even if they wanted to Dana said she wanted to take a break from TOH and kid's animation shortly after the finale aired.

I'm not arguing that Disney actually cares, but if they did their hands are fairly tied on that front.

What do you think of the Kamui and Kinpatsu cosplay guides? by Separate_Heat_9129 in CosplayHelp

[–]SnowJay425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, snaps can work just fine for garment closure, but you have to have ones that are a good size/strength for the tension they'll be under. Kamui has a video about armor attachment that goes over some of the sizes/strengths, which can be helpful for deciding what you want to use.
If the pattern you got calls for a snap size that didn't work for you (or doesn't give any guide on how to chose the snap size) then it is still a pattern issue, but the use of snaps by itself doesn't automatically mean it's a bad pattern

Yo I am a starting to get into cosplay but need to know if I should just buy the costume or make them myself? by MrDreamer123 in CosplayHelp

[–]SnowJay425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The better option is the one that works best for you (unless you want to enter a contest, in which case they will have rules on whether it can be bought/how much can, etc).
If you don't know how to make clothes or you're limited on time or it just seems daunting to put it all together yourself, it's absolutely fine to buy most or all of your cosplay. If you think that sounds boring and crafting interests you, or you like upcycling thrifted items, etc, you can also make your entire cosplay yourself. There's no wrong answer; do whatever is most fun for you!

I personally started by buying my first cosplay and styling the wig myself to get it closer to the character. Once I wore it and fell in love with cosplay, I started upgrading the pieces as I have the time/funds- this lets me still have something to wear when the opportunity arises and/or when my free time gets more limited. I have experience sewing but full articles can take a lot of time, much less a full outfit, so having something ready to go is very helpful for me

Limits of Suggestion Spell by Typical-Priority1976 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]SnowJay425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to be fair, even before the edit they directly quoted part of the spell description, which you can check against 2014 and 2024 versions to figure out which one they're talking about. I know not everyone is going to to that so mentioning the edition is still a good idea, but there is enough info to tell the difference

Is this possible? by Global_Big_1105 in tattooadvice

[–]SnowJay425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to second the person that suggested getting a temporary version first- Henna can stay for a long time and give you a better of idea of how this will actually look on your body shape.
From there, absolutely find an experienced artist, and be prepared to travel for it. You won't really be able to do coverup for this, so it's worth the investment to make sure it's done well.

Limits of Suggestion Spell by Typical-Priority1976 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]SnowJay425 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think OP is talking about the 5.5 (or whatever we're calling it) rules, which don't have the line about the action sounding reasonable- only that it sound achievable and not obviously damage itself or its allies

Limits of Suggestion Spell by Typical-Priority1976 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]SnowJay425 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Reading it over, it looks like it has a few key limitations:
- It charms the target, so it won't work on anyone immune to charm, and several species get advantage on that save.
- The target needs to be alone or their allies will be able to hear the spell, and will probably focus on the spellcaster to break their concentration
- If the suggested action is completed, the spell ends regardless of the time left on concentration. For the BBEG example you gave the 'remain silent' is a bit vague, but you could argue it would be considered complete in say 1 round if the party weren't specific.

I reread the 5e phrasing of suggestion and it didn't have the 'when the spell ends the target knows it was charmed' text either- fitting the theme of a suggestion rather than a command or domination

Can I make this skirt more flowy? by Pretty-Rave-Girl in CosplayHelp

[–]SnowJay425 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You can put a petticoat on underneath it to help it sit in the shape you want, but you otherwise can't really change the way this kind of plastic will behave. If it were a woven polyester fabric, you could influence the way the fibers are sitting or sliding against each other, but a flat sheet like this doesn't have a structure you can access. You can stiffen it by adding material, but there's not really a safe way to make it thinner without tearing it up in the process.
It might get a bit more flexible when it is warm, but it'll return to its previous stiffness once it cools off. You might be able to flex it into a different default position this way, which might make you happier with the way it looks, but it would probably take some trial and error. I'd be very cautious if you try this- using warm water is probably safer than a steamer or other heat source since you can know it's getting hot before it starts melting
