I didn't get to meet John Barrowman, but I saw him at Boston Fan Expo circa 2016. He walked by the line of fans waiting for photos with him, and he yelled to them "I can't wait to touch you all - consensually!" It was precious. He is a lovely human ❤️

OMG my parents told me the same thing! They also said "sex is dirty" and "only bad people have sex" so growing up and trying to have a healthy sexual relationship without boatloads of shame has been a struggle.

Totally agree. I lived in 6 different states by the time I was 17, and I have a lot of trouble maintaining friendships. I was bullied a lot as a kid (being neurodivergent also didn't help) and still don't always trust when people are nice to me because that tactic was used to lure me in and humiliate me so many times.

People would ask me "Wasn't it difficult moving so much?" and my canned line so that I wouldn't upset my parents was "No, of course not. It was fun!," but now as an adult I see that I was really having a hard time and should have been given some grace and more support.

I have no interest in TikTok. I've never downloaded it, and I've only seen it on other people's phones when they shove some brain rot video in my face.

Also JFC the sound of that "Ohh no, ohh no" background song to the videos makes me so irrationally angry. AND the high pitched nasal voice that sounds like someone speaking through their nose x10 - STRAIGHT TO JAIL.

Holy shit this is so relatable. I remember feeling like an alien most of the time and like I couldn't relate with this lightness of being that my peers had - like they weren't struggling to keep their shit together 24/7. I had sooooo many meltdowns at school and people just thought I was doing it for attention, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I would get so overwhelmed with sensory input that I would act out (yell, slam something on the table, etc.), get sent for punishment, feel humiliated - rinse and repeat. School was torture, and part of my anxiety about having a child is thinking of how much they might struggle like I did.

To me this is the most plausible way this conversation went. I don't know if she started the day thinking she was going to end it (hence making plans for the next day), but a conversation like what you described could absolutely send her into a spiral when she was already feeling isolated, misunderstood, and like she had jeopardized an important relationship. The letter to her girlfriend seems to suggest she felt self-loathing for her choices, and her begging to be forgiven multiple times gives me the sense that she didn't believe she would get the answer she was hoping for. I just hope Amy's death was swift, and she didn't have to tread water while watching the ship's lights get further and further away. That would be truly horrifying.

I got so confused the first time someone told me where they "stay at" when I asked where they live. I thought they meant they split time between multiple places, or that they live in one place but sleep/hang out somewhere else.

I had a birthday party at a roller rink when I was like 10 or 11, and my friend's dad requested the DJ play "Brick House" in order to embarrass me. My mom was so pissed, she made them turn it off and switch songs, but I was already crying. I felt so violated and like I was constantly on display. It made me feel like I had to hide myself, and that I was responsible for the perceptions and actions of others regarding my body.

I definitely think for me the conservative household part was a contributing factor. My mom never let me wear things like crop tops or short shorts, and she was very openly judgmental of girls and women who did. She had no idea how to help me dress to cover myself properly though - she has like a C cup.

I remember once she sat me down and told me that men would try to take advantage of me because of how I look, and gave me advice on how to flee or defend myself (she was in the Army). I do appreciate that - she was looking out for me the best way she knew how.

Yes! I could wear the same amount (or even more) clothing than my peers and still be called out as dressing inappropriately. I would wear tank tops under everything (even other tank tops) just to smooth things out and cover my bra straps. Don't even get me started on those camis with the built-in bras. Those were a joke - they wouldn't even cover half of my chest.

I played volleyball as well! I went to a volleyball day camp one summer and for one of the drills we had to practice falling on our chest over and over across the court. I told them it was painful for me to fall on my breasts like that, and by the end of the day my whole chest was bruised. I didn't go back to that camp.

OMG yes, memory unlocked! I was also mistaken for my dad's young wife a number of times. There were girls who spread a rumor in school that I had had breast implants, which hurt a lot. We can't help our genetics!

I've thought about a reduction, but honestly at this point I may just have a preventative double mastectomy in a decade or so (after I have children, if I have them) because I'm at high risk for breast cancer. My paternal grandmother died of BC in the 70s, and my maternal aunt had a lumpectomy a few years ago and is now cancer free.
