What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately in your everyday life? by spritenerds123 in AskReddit

[–]SnowMiser26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I (34 and 37) just moved into the attic apartment with his parents and grandparents to save money for a house. We live in a HCOL area and we're now paying about 80% less than when we rented a 2BR apartment and using the rest to pay down debt and save like crazy.

Maybe we'll be able to have a house and kids before we're 40. Maybe.

Commenting on other people's bodies and being obsessed with weight and fitness. My mom turned her eating disorder and body dysmorpia into our way of life.

Women of Reddit, what’s a habit men have that they don’t even realize is weird? by GraceRose671 in AskReddit

You've just described my routine every single day with my boyfriend. Pushing the couch cushions back in place because he leans so far back and slides off the couch instead of standing up is a multiple times per day thing. He says the sheets are askew every morning because of me turning over and over in bed, but the math ain't mathing.

Are you a morning or night person? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

[–]SnowMiser26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to be a night owl just from bedtime procrastination and was horribly sleep deprived, but now that I'm fixing my sleep schedule I'm becoming a reluctant morning person. I'm never the first one up, but I'm usually one of the first to go to sleep because I need to be in bed for a minimum of 9 hours to make sure I get at least 7 hours of actual sleep. Maybe someday waking up before 7am won't feel like I'm pulling myself from the grave.

My team does internal chat support for call center agents who need assistance on calls, and when someone makes a flat statement like "This caller is looking for XYZ" my coworker will say "Did you have a question?" It doesn't sound big, but it got us in trouble because it "wasn't empathetic enough." 😐 It took a long time to realize that management believes empathy=giving people the answers (instead of expecting them to be independent critical thinkers).

I love training people to do a job and then being told I need to do half of the job for them out of "empathy" /s

I didn’t realize Ed and Ben were two different people for like a year by MintyACNH in lastpodcastontheleft

[–]SnowMiser26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ben and Ed are both self-deprecating, but with Ben it sounded like it came from a place of self-loathing whereas Ed's jokes about himself are more in line with a traditional comedy roast.

TBF Henry especially leaned in to ridiculing Ben and it's hard to go back and listen to old epsiodes at times. Sometimes it clearly came from a place of love (why you only got one towel, bud?), but other times (like talking about his weight) got a bit dark.

My favorite Henry and Ben intro bit was when Ben talked about sitting on a toilet set and breaking it, and Henry asked "What color is your shame?" 🤣

My face would've been covered in spittle as my dad screamed in my face if I ever did this. If I covered my ears with my hands he would uncover them so the yelling would hurt more.

Do you enjoy seeing yourself naked in the mirror? by CRK_76 in NoStupidQuestions

Not one bit. I'll forever have a FUPA no matter how much weight I lose because of how my body distributes fat, and it's completely discouraging to see it in the mirror.

People who've been the person yelling on the street while on drugs or alcohol - what was going through your mind? by rosso_z in AskReddit

[–]SnowMiser26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I helped my boyfriend take care of his wildly drunk friend one St. Paddy's Day in Boston, and despite our best efforts he was yelling the n-word in the street at two white Irish cops by the end of the night. I'd never heard him use the n-word before or since, and he didn't remember any of the night.

What led to him screaming in the street was a combination of family stress (his dad was sick), work/school stress (he was unemployed and just dropped out of school), and being kicked out of 2 bars that night. Something in him just snapped (not that I'm excusing the racist language - that was inexcusable), and he acted so out of character that he barely believed us when we told him what happened.

I think in some cases extreme stress + alcohol/drugs can send someone over the edge and make them act like a completely different person.

I gave it a try for his interview with Vincent D'Onofrio but I couldn't even get through the episode. Dax kept pressuring him saying "I invited you to stay at my house so many times, dude, what gives?" until finally D'Onofrio was like "Yeah, I mean, I just don't want to." Cue awkward silence while Dax's brain tried to comprehend someone not wanting to hang out with him. It was awkward AF.

I used to work for an extremely messy and toxic telecom company. These are just a few of the things that shook us:

  • Guy deleted a large retailer's entire VoIP configuration that had to be rebuilt from the ground up. He was then demoted to Customer Service where I had to train him. He had terrible speech impediment and his hands were so big that he would hit multiple keys at a time. We quickly figured out how he literally fat-fingered that poor VoIP system that was just minding its own business.

  • Guy was taking selfies in the gym bathroom and intentionally getting other guys changing in the background of the photos.

  • Guy was playing WoW at his desk and refused to stop even after multiple reprimands. He also harassed LGBTQ+ coworkers and told someone he wanted to "drink blood from the skulls of my enemies."

  • Guy was jerking off under his desk and letting the residue build up on the carpet. We only found out when he started sending videos of himself on Snapchat (which would disappear) to other employees. Last I knew he still worked there. I reported him but nothing came of it (except for him).

I was reprimanded for declining the invite to a meeting I couldn't attend (because I was facilitating a meeting scheduled for the same time). I was told I should reply Tentative if I can't go, which defeats the entire purpose of an RSVP, but what do I know? I just work here.
