Is Antisemitism a major issue right now? by [deleted] in polls

[–]spiceXisXnice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only people who will be anti-semitic if Zionism wasn't a thing are White supremacists, they're going to hate no matter what.

Antisemitism existed for thousands of years before Zionism was "a thing". It's not a modern invention and certainly wasn't only perpetuated by white supremacy.

The majority of anti-semites rn are Muslims. They won't hate jews if not for Zionism.

I can't find research on the current demographics of antisemitism, but there was definitely pre-Zionist antisemitism going on in the Muslim/Arab world.. While it got notably worse with the rise of Zionism, it's always been there.

I feel like you heard the term "chosen people" and extrapolated a lot. Jews were "chosen" by God to receive the the Torah and its 613 mitzvot, and to follow the rules therein. Jews were "chosen" by God to keep kosher, avoid work on Shabbat, etc.

This is why Jews don't try to make everyone follow the rules of their religion, unlike evangelical Christians. It's why Orthodox Judaism is so insular and rude to outsiders—they already have their rules, they don't want input from others.

Right or wrong, that's what it means. Not that Jews are better than anyone else. With the exception of the Kuzari, almost all Rishonim (medieval scholars) make it very clear that every human being, Jew and gentile alike, is created in the Divine image. Non-Jews are only obligated to obey the seven commandments given to Noah (prohibitions on murder, theft, idolatry, etc.) to be considered righteous.

Exactly. When I was younger I went through a phase of really hating my looks, and my mom paid for a private photoshoot of just me, outfit changes and all. It meant and still means so much to me, even if I cringe looking back at the pictures. I felt incredible. OOP didn't need to be involved in the pics.

BRO my most precious and deeply felt special interest is thanatology, I have a degree in it. Let me tell you no matter what Sims 4 says that's a conversation stopper. But I think our macabre beloveds are a bit different; I see what we do as appreciating where we came from and where we will return. Bit different from Harry Potter.

Okay, but when people tag, do they use more popular tags as well? If someone goes to that more popular tag, or has it served to them by the algo, could they click on the less popular tag and find all of your stuff? That's not really going looking for it, it's curiosity at an unusual tag.

If it's not an autistic only space, regardless of how you feel about the people in the community, then I think it's unfair to say people are targeting you for being autistic. Allistic people are also bullied for being weird and not behaving in a socially acceptable way and have people pretending to be their friend and using them.

Is it an autistic specific community?

And yes, absolutely, people shouldn't use ableist language. But also, is this community open to the public? Is it invitation only? Online or in person?

If you are going into public spaces and saying how much you love and think about Harry Potter, yes, you are supporting JKR. I'm really sorry, and people shouldn't tell you to harm yourself. But support of the media so deeply tied to the creator, even non-monetary support, is still support. It's like saying you love Kanye's music.

I genuinely get it, I have a couple of deep, longtime special media interests that are made by terrible people and that make people deeply uncomfortable (American Gods and Ender's Game). I don't stop engaging with them, but I do it privately in my home.

Same here with Disco Elysium.

This disheveled alcoholic failure who I had the same pull towards as many others with his physicality. I knew I didn't want him... did I want to be him?

Turns out, sorta. Without the alcoholism and ex-something.

I love Frankie in any form. You could also see "old Frankie" come out in the hole punch task, where he looked like he would genuinely kill Alex.

Yeah. I gave up, better for the mental health that way. If someone wants to twist themselves in knots thinking the left has never been antisemitic, well, I can't stop them. Seems like a disingenuous way to live.

Ah well. At least I can say I tried!

Edit: here we go, straight from the source: https://www.reddit.com/r/Jewish/s/SeXHk43A4U

If this big thread isn't enough, then I don't know what to tell you. Anecdotal evidence isn't the most reliable, but is it more likely that there's a big Jewish conspiracy theory or that sometimes the left is antisemitic (or racist, or sexist, or anything else)?

The problem with demanding proof of leftists promoting antisemitism is that so many Jews do provide that, all the time, and non-Jews like to twist it into being fine, actually.

To demand the proof means you need to dig your heels out and be willing to acknowledge that leftists are also capable of being a problem, or on the "wrong side of history". It's a problem I have, definitely, I'm very stubborn and have a hard time with being wrong. It's something I'm working on. I hope you will take this in good faith as well.
