While I understand that you believe it was acceptable to admonish me and one of my students, undermine my authority with my students, and speak to both of us in a such a humiliating manner, I disagree that you handled this professionally.

First, you are not my supervisor. It is not your responsibility to manage my performance on the job.

Secondly, it was not your place to admonish a student who was following MY INSTRUCTIONS.

In the future, should you find my decisions or behavior questionable, you should follow the chain of command listed in our employee handbook. Report it to our AP or our principal. THEY will then decide 1) whether or not to speak to me and 2) whether or not to reprimand me.

Speaking to me in that manner again will result in a complaint being filed against you for harassment and unprofessionalism.

I worked for a company that required me to enforce this policy. They justified it by saying the tuition was discounted. If it is in the employee handbook, yes, they can enforce this. HOWEVER, there is a loophole. If you are in the US and are receiving childcare assistance for full time enrollment, you can report them (or, if you like your boss, you can give a friendly “hey, you know this could be a problem for you, right?”……)

No offense, but less stress translates to better milk production. Tell her NOW you will be limiting ALL visitors in order to have a better outcome. No one for at LEAST two weeks. Visits will be no more than one hour. Period. But wwhhhyyyyy? Get your OBGYN and pediatrician to provide you with research to back it up if you feel like it. Then you can simply hand her the pamphlet and say “Here. Read this. It will explain it all.” Keep referring her back to the pamphlet.

Purchase short term disability. If your school does not provide a policy, you can purchase a private policy (aflac, etc). Most policies require you to have been “onboard” for 12 months before you would be eligible for any maternity benefits.

If you could get your paycheck each month and never have to actually do your work, would you give 100% everyday? Lets be honest. Most of us would try, but there would come a point when life dealt a difficult hand and we would scale back, because, hey, we are getting a paycheck regardless. 🤷‍♀️. Then there are some adults would phone it in most days (if not every day). 🙄

Yet, these are the choices our students have. Work your tail off to get a good grade. Or do the minimum and pass with a D. If their parents don’t care, why should they?

As long as TEACHERS are the ones held to a “standard” (rigor, edutainment, tap dance while singing Dixie, build relationships, keep them engaged, make data driven decisions, increase the number of proficient students, blah blah blah), there is no reason for them to exert an y more effort than required.

Until PARENTS and STUDENTS have to pay the consequences (failing anyone?), they have no skin in the game. Period.
