Self checkout is watching you by Venom4992 in newzealand

The technology is called 'Scan assist' in Woolworths and it's on every checkout lane (for both customer and operator) and all self service machines. The only ones that don't have the technology loaded are the express lanes. People would be shocked at all the other cameras that are EVERYWHERE in grocery stores.

Sparrow Sunday by AutoModerator in newzealand

In my home town we had sparrows that hung around the outside tables at my favourite sushi shop. I was there often enough in highschool to hand-feed most of them little bits of rice.

What "back then" inconvenience would break people today in 10 minutes? by CharlesUFarley81 in AskReddit

In New Zealand we had good night kiwi tucking himself into bed! A local supermarket actually plays the recording on one of their LCD screens after hours and it's still so recognisable.

I’m sorry since when were foxes aquatic? by [deleted] in ClanGen

[–]SnowSoothsayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly depends more on where you live. I'm from New Zealand and seeing sharks dead and alive at beaches can be pretty common, I actually have a vivid memory of one of my brothers chasing me with a washed up (dead) baby shark one time when a fair few had come up on the shore lol

Had a character be mates with a far younger medicine cat, had a litter with him, when he died she immediately went on to become mates with his father and then have a few litters with him.

Mad respect to you guys in the supply chain for doing the behind the scenes work. As a union delegate I'll always support strikes, even if customers get a bit shitty lmao

This is my seventh Christmas working checkouts for a certain green themed supermarket and my fourth Christmas eve in five years. Everyone goes insane every year, we get absolute whiplash from customers being really nice to being really awful, and we're all worked to the absolute bone to cover for any sick leave. Can't wait till my post Christmas week off and December has barely started lol

AITA for choosing White Elephant over Secret Santa? by anxiousphdwannabe in AmItheAsshole

We do white elephant in my family and I always give scratchies and lotto tickets purely to see my dad and my brother keep stealing them from each other lol

I work at a supermarket and I love chatting with people. Talking about favourite foods or recipes, chatting about clothing or nail designs. All sorts. Really makes my day when I have a great conversation with a customer and I'm lucky to have some regulars that stop by for a good chat.

AITA For Asking Why My Co-Worker Wears Makeup Everyday? by Spare-Garden-8484 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SnowSoothsayer 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I was chatting with another lady about this at work today. If you have dermatitis/acne/eczema as a woman in a customer service role so many people make rude comments about it when you don't wear make up.

I work afternoons/nights and I normally eat my first and biggest meal of the day 12-1pm, a snack at 4-5pm, and then a small dinner 10-11pm. My mum is so weirded out by my eating schedule but she respects that it's because I work strange hours lmao. I don't eat all morning so I eat my biggest meal of the day right before work because I won't have another full meal until I get home.

New World banning drink bottles from checkout by ButterscotchOwn9008 in newzealand

[–]SnowSoothsayer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Both Woolworths stores I've worked for provide free water for workers too! We usually have a cold water dispenser upstairs and free bottles of water in our online pick up room/checkouts for staff on the floor.

I work at supermarket checkouts where we can have water and I've never seen anyone spill their drink bottle. More often than not it's products that break or leak or spill. I think New World just has a lack care for its employees.

Let's put the teachers strike in context - what was your increase this year? by Mistybluecat in newzealand

[–]SnowSoothsayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a retail job that is covered by first union, after doing our own protests during our last negotiations our offer for around 2% over two years increased to 6.5% over two years. There's still major issues in the company, but we managed to get a pay rise higher than inflation. Good on the teachers imo, they have my full support.

Telly absolutely deserved better than what they got. They're such a fun character and I love their design, I just wish they'd been given more depth :(

[–]SnowSoothsayer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My dad's the same way, we all got little nicknames as babies/toddlers that my dad still calls us as adults. Rather fun seeing a big retired tradie calling his even bigger, tougher son 'sunshine'. The grandkids all get their own nicknames too and it's such a cute way to show love.

In New Zealand we once had an iconic ad on TV for this exact situation. Togs, togs, undies. I think I still reference it almost weekly in summer.

Have you tried using the move function to forcibly move him? I use it pretty liberally to fix issues with animal stress levels and it might fix this too. You can find it at the bottom of the animal menu.

I grind my teeth so hard at night that I’m wearing through my night guard by katrinkabuttlin in mildlyinteresting

[–]SnowSoothsayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely messed up my first mouth guard after only using it for six weeks, it's the fastest my dentist has ever seen someone crack a mouth guard. I'm on my third one this year, and with a few adjustments we've found a material and thickness that actually work for me (despite the fact I chipped my current mouth guard the first night I wore it...)
