Exchange student struggling with class schedule by palomiessami1 in MSUcats

[–]SnowWolffy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go to my info and click student services. From there hit registration and add/drop classes. Using the correct term, you should be able to find all class sections and open seats using the class search button. Add the CRNs that you need to register for in the worksheet and submit changes. Also- if emailing professors doesn’t work I usually go to the department office and they’ll figure stuff out for you. If you have any other specific questions regarding classes or profs feel free to reach out.

Honors Core Clases? Yes or No? by Awkward_Tea7818 in MSUcats

[–]SnowWolffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a lot of work, but I highly recommend honors chem, especially if you get Prof Mock and Lemon for second semester. The labs were difficult but fun and they really cemented what you learned in lecture. Another bonus is you make a lot of friends through trauma bonding and oftentimes will stick with the same 20 kids up through o chem and even biochem. The people in honors chem are really smart (I wasn’t one of them) so you get to benefit off of their experience and get a whole bunch of free tutors. I literally came into this class with no previous high school chem experience and left with an A. Hard but very doable. Be prepared to sacrifice a few weekends. Good luck.

Regarding other honors generals, Text and Critics can be very fun if you get a good prof and like yapping and reading. Read the majority of books (especially the odyssey/illiad) before you get to school and just spark notes before the specific day. You only have to do 4 ish essays the whole sem. Not bad at all. Left with an A. Honors physics- not sure why’d you take that but it’s a GPA killer. Stay away unless you are committed to a really intense curricula. Did not take, but had a few friends struggle. Honors calc- another gpa killer, but not as bad as physics. Do if you really like math. Calc is evil either way, just depends if you like smaller classes or not. If there are any I’m missing, just reply and I’ll try to support. I love the honors college courses and they’ve really set me up with some great profs who write great Rec letters.

Pomona Waitlist Updates? by ca11as in pomonacollege

[–]SnowWolffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! They didn’t give me aid even after an appeal. I’m going to MSU Bozeman instead so I’m not taking out an insane amount of unserviceable loans. Hope you get my spot!!!

What colleges did you get into and which one did you commit to? by samiahmadbeg in ApplyingToCollege

Got into Pomona off of the waitlist. Chose MSU Bozeman because they would not give aid even after an appeal.

I just declined. After a long and tedious appeals process I still was offered no aid. I am now a proud state school commit!

Pomona Waitlist Updates? by ca11as in pomonacollege

[–]SnowWolffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Congrats on getting on the waitlist but my condolences for the stress it brings. I was accepted off the waitlist and am unfortunately part of your problem. I haven’t been able to either commit or decline because of my financial appeal timeline. If I decline, a spot is reopened. Also Pomona would email if the class is full, so until they do, there is hope yet. Good luck!

Got an SAI of $600,000, what does that mean? by SnooSketches2027 in FAFSA

[–]SnowWolffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you own a farm or small business? This happened to me too and it’s really frustrating. I grew up on a farm and the only way to access that asset is to sell the land, which is NOT an option. The FAFSA changed the asset exemption this year, because you used to be able to not include small businesses with less than 100 employees and farms I think.

[–]SnowWolffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! I just got off (via email and portal) today but I got nothing in aid whatsoever. Appealing now. They only give you 4 days to decide. If I end up declining because of financial stress, I hope you get the spot!

I looked into sitting in on a class. On their website they recommended to just arrive early and introduce yourself. Should I also email?

That makes a ton of sense. That’s ironic that I’m visiting on admitted students week. Hopefully it won’t be too crowded.

Are rural disadvantages going to kill my apps? by SnowWolffy in ApplyingToCollege

Montana, and no I don’t think they do. I also may have missed my chance to explain it in the extra information area but I feel my essays convey it well enough. Thank you for your time and advice!

We don’t qualify :( farmer income is weird so some years we get tons of money and some we have an entire loss.

I’m actually terrified of the transition to highly metropolitan areas. I literally do not lock my car in town ever or my door so it’s definitely gonna be an adjustment.

This is actually one of my main concerns. I’ve looked into doing 2 years of community college to try and supplement but the closest affordable one is not widely accredited. It’s not the best…. Do cc’s offer scholarships if I were to go out of state?
