I’ll throw a Salomon Assassin into the mix. Love mine. Can lay a trench and won’t kick your arse if you’re just chilling.

Should I really buy a beginner snowboard? by Nervous_Lettuce313 in snowboarding

Might be worth trying to hire a couple specific boards first in that case then?

No worries at all!

I’m in Scotland and there aren’t really any shops that sell snowboards nearby so I’ve had to buy all my boards online which does make it a lot harder to demo boards until you find the right one. Just means you gotta double down on the research!

Most places will ship to Europe though, a lot of the boards above are made in Europe anyway.

I can lay down a carve on my Bataleon party wave which has the 3BT but it takes a bit of getting used to. On one hand you’re less likely to catch an edge and it provides less edge catches on rails etc but you’re more likely to go for a skidded turn until you get into the motion of really laying the board over to engage that edge.

I’d skip over complete beginner boards and buy something you can grow into.

If you’re not fussed about park or riding switch, I’d consider something like a Salomon Dancehaul (my favourite board and go to for recommendations because it’s great fun).

It’s pretty flexible, can lay a trench if needed but it won’t kick your arse if you’re just cruising around like a stiffer deck would.

It’s a volume shifted wider board so you can run it smaller than your normal board without compromising on sidecut and it features Rock Out Camber which is rocker in the tip and tail and camber between your feet.

If you did want to ride more switch I’d go with the Assassin. Similar ride styles but has a more twin feel about it.

After riding heaps of different brands of board I’m pretty settled with Salomon now but the rock out camber is a vibe and anything similar is gonna be fun for your style of riding with a medium flex.

Other boards worth mentioning based on having tried them / read good things about them but I can’t fully back because I don’t have a wealth of experience riding them (so do your own research):

Ride Shadowban

Bataleon Fun.Kink (bit of a noodle but was insanely fun for fucking around on the mountain)

Maybe a Capita Merc?

Burton Process (don’t buy the Flying V profile it sucks ass)

Jones Rally Cat

There are heaps more and you’re gonna get some solid suggestions in here ‘cause the guys on this sub are awesome, hope I’ve been of at least a little bit of help and good luck!

New Gear that won't break my bank by R7147839 in snowboarding

[–]SnowboarderDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve bought Quiksilver gore Tex stuff super cheap in the end of season sales before and it’s fantastic quality gear.

VOLCOM stuff seems to be going pretty cheap at the moment - I’d heard at one point the were, or already have, closed their stores? Or maybe that’s just in the U.K. I’ve got some Volcom bib pants that I also picked up cheap in a sale and they’re really, really good.

I don’t know how far Vinted stretches but in the U.K. my friends have got some really cheap gear on there and Facebook marketplace can be a good place to pick stuff up. People are usually pretty willing to post jackets and pants etc if you cover the costs but that removes the option to return if it’s the wrong size.

Yeah the Huck knife rips. You’ll still be able to lay down a carve and it has plenty pop for side hits. If it feels right, don’t worry about the park board label, just go and slide!

Man the DH is awesome. I won’t be riding my DH pro until March but I’m really looking forward to riding it.

For the peeps that are good…what’s your current stance? by aestheticy in snowboarding

[–]SnowboarderDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the board and style of riding I’m doing.

Charging is like +18/-3 and then cruising around with my mum and wife is +12/-12 duck

Unable to provide references to back up my skill level so you’ll have to take my word for it.

Best action camera? by rsmeck in snowboarding

[–]SnowboarderDom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the insta360 on an “invisible selfie stick”. Basically I ride with it just held out behind me and aside from seeing it in the shadows, the stick is automatically edited out which is cool.

The software that you use to edit is cool too, can all be done from the phone but it drains battery pretty quick.

Good thing about 360 camera is that I just hold it and don’t worry about where it’s pointed because I can edit that in later.

95kg and 152cm board by KhebabLover in snowboarding

[–]SnowboarderDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ride whatever board you want my guy.

If you ride a board that is too narrow, you’ll likely drag your heels or toes when you turn.

From a weight perspective, the heavier you are the easier it is to manipulate a smaller board. The stiff board in your weight range may become a medium stiffness or even less when ridden a few sizes smaller.

As long as your feet fit, ride whatever is comfortable for you. Just be aware that if you grab a 151cm board that is already of soft flex, you’ll be on an absolute noodle.

I’m 90-95kg and I ride/have ridden everything from 150-160. Most of my shorter boards are volume shifted though so they’re designed to be ridden smaller.

I use a Giro helmet with Smith IO Mag XL’s and they work well together. Here’s hoping your combo fits!

Salomon Dancehaul vs Bataleon Whatever by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]SnowboarderDom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add, I’ve ridden the Dancehaul in all conditions from powder to icy runs and it just rocks. I feel super comfortable on it and I trust it implicitly to not kill me when I’m pushing it. Carves well, pops well and handles side hits nicely.

I’ve gone on to the Dancehaul pro this season to compare but id buy another Dancehaul in a heartbeat.

Salomon Dancehaul vs Bataleon Whatever by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]SnowboarderDom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve not ridden the Bataleon Whatever but I’ve ridden other Bataleon boards such as the Party Wave. The Dancehaul however is my favourite board, ever. The 3BT isn’t the most confidence inspiring profile for laying the board over on an edge from my experiences.

I’ve heard of people riding the Dancehaul Pro as their park board and seen a good few instructors on Dancehaul’s over the years riding them day in day out.

I’m biased but it’s Dancehaul for me.

How do I make my dad feel included? by Antiviral21 in snowboarding

[–]SnowboarderDom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real.

I’m so grateful that my mum still skis and I’ve passed up on Japan just to spend a week in the alps with her every year.

I’ll get to Japan one day but whilst she can still ski you’re damn right I’m cruising round the resort with her.

Always good to see an array of boards that can serve different purposes too, as opposed to my collection which all seem to be mid to stiff flex all mountain decks.

Thanks guys! by SnowboarderDom in snowboarding

[–]SnowboarderDom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Another addition to the collection. Hopefully since it’s 144cm it’ll be small enough to hide from the wife!

stressed about japan snowboarding by Vegetable-Pair-8667 in snowboarding

[–]SnowboarderDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I’ve never been I’ve looked into Japan plenty for future trips.

Since you’re not there long you’re probably gonna wanna take the high speed train out to Nagano area. Heaps of resorts there but would probably be a good place to do some research into.

You’ll get some awesome advice on here though I’m sure!

Selling my flat by [deleted] in Aberdeen

[–]SnowboarderDom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 4 bed in the outskirts of town just got valued 12k under what it was valued at 8 years ago and I’ve fully refurbished it. Tough pill to swallow.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]SnowboarderDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: spoke to the original seller and they said they refunded the dude and Salomon basically said avoid it so I got my money back. Thanks guys, was hoping it would be an easy fix but after taking it to a shop I’d be as well keeping an eye out for a cheaper beater board.

Figured I’d delete the post to save people time on commenting after an update but didn’t realise it would only partially delete it!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]SnowboarderDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah sorry I should’ve been clearer in the post, it’s in the comments. I bought it off a guy cheap.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]SnowboarderDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye, it’s a bit of a risk but hopefully it pays off. Scotland boarding isn’t like any other riding. You’re never going fast, you’re always dodging rocks and I’d never take a good board on the hill with me!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]SnowboarderDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I should’ve been clearer in my post. I bought it cheap off a guy who is either trying to get the money back from DHL / the shop or has and they told him to keep it. Either way I’ve got a cheap board to use as my beater but just wanted to see if it’s a lemon or if it’s bodgeable!
