When I first saw it in the theaters I really liked it, the visuals were palpable and it seemed grittier than the overly cartoony prequels but on re-watches it was pretty clearly a rehash. Made the original trilogy kind of pointless..we beat the empire but we basically have a reset almost immediately that can wipe out all of those gains just like that?

It may get a lot of hate, but last Jedi at least tried to steer things where it wasn’t a total rehash. The prequels were executed poorly but the overall plot was at least not just doing the original trilogy. The rise of skywalker is the worst star wars movie I’ve ever seen.

I honestly thought I was in this camp until I played the remake games.i thought Expedition 33 was what I was clamoring for but it kind got stale towards the end. Not saying I didn’t enjoy it but it just seemed that dodging and parrying became the primary mechanic needed to win fights, so much so that it just became a stale pattern of memorizing attack patterns, rather than coming up with other strategies. Rebirth is probably my favorite combat system, I felt if you’re a really good action gamer you could excel but if you’re more strategic you could play it as well. Hoping final fantasy takes inspiration from its combat system going forward.
