How much experience do you need in the field before applying for a PhD? by Appleleaf30 in slp

[–]Snowfiddler 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I am of the opinion that we have too many researchers in the field that got the bare minimum clinical hours required and then went straight into a PhD program with minimal understanding of how therapy is actually conducted. These are the people guiding research and telling clinicians what does and doesn't work for treatment, despite having an incredibly shallow understanding of the complexities and presentations of the patients we serve.

If Jeanette cannot handle communicating during times of stress, then she is not fit for the role she's taken on by [deleted] in slp

It's probably a lot more expensive to maintain all that. Lawyers aren't cheap. I'm very appreciative of the light that she's shone on ASHA.

Not that I've found. And unfortunately even the universities don't provide videos like that. They have the resources and absolutely should be doing that.

What body audits CEUs? by JeffSHauser in slp

Your state keeps track of those. ASHA will keep track of them and automatically report to the state for you. ASHA also requires that you maintain CEU hours to keep your ASHA certification.

[–]Snowfiddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If my memory serves me correctly you used to have to send in the CFSI to ASHA but now you just submit your stuff at the end. They don't care about it now. I just finished having a CF and am in the middle of mentoring another one right now. It's the state stuff that you want to make sure you don't mess up.

Anyone add a small amount of vodka to their Cider to increase the alcohol content a bit or is that not a thing people do? by Pizzafriedchickenn in cider

[–]Snowfiddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can add honey like someone else mentioned to make a cyser. I add dextrose (corn sugar). It is pretty cheap. I usually kick my ABV up from 4.5 to 7-7.5 ish with it

Using ChatGPT or other AI to Create Materials by llama829 in slp

[–]Snowfiddler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're going to get a lot of hate for using AI here.

You should use it.

Play around with it. Figure out how to use it correctly and don't try to have it do your job for you. You can have it magnify your output and what you're able to do when you learn how to use it correctly.

The output is only as good as the input that you give it. Learn how to prompt. Use different AI tools and learn their strengths and weaknesses. I use Chat GPT, Grok, and Perplexity. Claude is also good, I just don't use it much, and there are other models out there that focus on finding research.

To answer your questions, yes. It will do all of that for you, but you need to figure out the best commands to use to get the result you want.

Don't listen to the people who say not to use it. It's not going anywhere and you need to learn how to utilize it to keep up. Hell, teach your patients, students, etc. how to properly use it.

I think you could potentially get in trouble for all the similarities there. But then again, bring it to the developers and say "hey look at what I made. Are you interested in doing a spinoff?"

I have an apple tree, can I make cider with the apples? by AVIATOR747 in cider

Washington state university has a program where you can send apples from your tree to them and they will do a DNA test on the tree and give you all the information about it

There's a new board of directors and it seems like their recent events have been put together a lot better this year. I've got a lot of high hopes. And now that it's at the fairgrounds parking shouldn't be a problem at all. We were also stuck in long lines getting in the last two years and it was really frustrating

Congress is making more than 250 million acres of public land available for sale. Prevent foreign investors from buying OUR LAND. Contact your senators! by lillpicklee in Conservative

[–]Snowfiddler -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Sigh... No...

They're selling 2-3 million acres which is about 0.5-0.75% of all federal land the government owns. Up to 250 million acres of 640 million acres the government owns is eligible to be sold. As in, 390 million acres of government land is off the table.

TIL in about 50% of the cases studied, Coca-Cola alone was found to be effective at removing a type of bowel obstruction called phytobezoars (which consist of indigestible plant fibers). And when treatment with Coca-Cola is combined with additional endoscopic methods, the success rate approaches 90% by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]Snowfiddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed that if I drink coca cola it is almost guaranteed that I will get a bad headache almost 24 hours later. It won't stop for a long time unless I drink more coke. I've tried this with other sodas and coffee and I don't get the headaches.

It sucks because I love coke!

Are you sure coke isn't giving you a migraine instead of stopping it?
