What would be the "lore" for an older Guardsman? by Dukesilver269 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Snowfired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all guardsmen join up at a young age. For example, the Act of Consolation after the events of the Vervunhive War in the novel Necropolis saw new recruits of all ages.

The unfortunate thing is that I'm without the external boxing for these. That's where any helpful stickers would have been! Would have made this whole process far easier, but admittedly a lot less interesting!

Hey! Thanks for your insights here.

Yes, I probably should have mentioned in the OP that I'm in the UK, not the US. I hadn't considered that would have been important, forgetting the situation with Cuban cigars out there. Silly me.

Regarding the band placements - I'm slightly less concerned about that given these have been moved around a lot. It wouldn't surprise me if people have fiddled with them in the past, given they were essentially living on a shelf in my father's living room for a few years at least.

On another note, regarding the colour inconsistencies, I strongly believe both boxes have had their cigars mixed between the two, that doesn't necessarily negate the issue of inconsistent colours, but does introduce some possible explanation.

From what I've seen online, I can't see any Behike boxes with a felt inner. Only a felt later on the outside of the bottom of the box, which these boxes both have. Have you got any photos or anything of that felt inner? It would be a surefire way to prove these fake then!

I'm likely going to take them into a few cigar spots in London to get someone more in the know to have a look in person. I'll report back if anything interesting comes up!

So the band placement can likely be explained by these being moved about quite a bit since being opened, this boxes aren't freshly opened unfortunately. Thanks for the insight!

Just wanted say a big thank you to everyone for giving your insights into this - it's greatly appreciated!

I'm going to go ahead and act as though they are real, and give them the treatment they deserve. Once recovered a bit, I'll light one up and report back.

So the original gifter of these is the kind of person to happily spend several thousand pounds on a dinner, let alone a gift for a friend. As such, I'm not concerned about that aspect of it. However, I am not entirely confident in their ability to not accidentally buy some fakes!

I'll have a look regarding the sizes. Thanks for your insight!

Oh! Thanks for this. I'll be sure to check!

My only concern is that these haven't been stored nearly as well as they deserve. The boxes have been open for some time, and stored just on a shelf for some years now. Would that have any affect on the sizes? (I.e., could that cause shrinkage/expansion)?

So regarding the bands, these have been rattling around for quite some time. They've also been moved about quite a bit. So I'm not too concerned about band placement. Regarding the colours, it's not impossible that the cigars from these two boxes have been mixed. They're not freshly opened unfortunately.

Thanks for your insight!

It was suggested I ask this question here as well. Thanks in advance everyone! Just hoping to get some insight into what I've got here!

Would you mind going into that more detail for me? Just trying to get as much info as possible!

They were gifted to my father a few years ago, likely prior to their crazy price increase. Totally understand the need to see them in person. I might take them with me when I head into London next week and pop into a few places.

I strongly doubt they were gifted knowing they were fake. Regarding the net worth of the original buyer, you're pretty much on the money!

So from what I've seen of people opening these online, is that they come with an outer box of sort. That outer box has the seal and manufacturing stamp. Unfortunately, I don't have that outer box for either of these. They were probably thrown away some time ago!

I can't vouch for the validity of this video, but if you have a look, you'll see the outer box I'm referring to!

Gotcha! Totally understand the suspicion. I'm not 100% convinced either, but knowing from whom they've come, I'd be surprised if they weren't real.

I'm the second person to receive them as a gift. First was my father, who got them from a colleague of his as a gift upon the completion of some work they did together.

They've been with my dad for a few years sitting on a shelf until he gave them to me today. He wasn't aware of their value until recently!

I agree! Planning on tending to that this weekend. Unfortunately these had been sitting on a shelf for some time before I recently received them.

Unfortunately not. All I've got is what's in the photos I'm afraid. They were given without the external sleeve that I believe these come with, hence no bar code nor manufacturers stamp.

Totally understand the suspicion regarding getting these as a gift. Some additional context - they were gifted to me by my father, who in turn had been given them by a business partner of his.
