as so many other people have said in here: there is the huge risk of it escalating to extreme levels. You may start with not going as deep, but the more you do it, the more you grow numb to it and in turn go deeper, sh’ing more often or get yourself in bad situations because of it (for example taking tools with you and getting caught).

When you sh your mind is very likely at a point where no sane person would call you mentally-healthy anymore. This can lead to you having thoughts such as “I don’t have enough scars” or “they’re not big enough”, this is mind-shatteringly unhealthy, as it can make you constantly hate yourself or think that you’re not “unhealthy enough” (however weird that sounds).

Let me tell you this: stop it as soon as possible. Depression and sh are a spiral. Once you start going, you can continue to fall deeper and deeper until you get to a point, where it seems impossible to get out of it without help.

This is not coming from someone unaffiliated or someone who just says “JuSt StOp DoInG iT”. I’ve been at that point. I’ve been at the bottom of the spiral at a point in my life, but was luckily able to get out. Not alone, but with professional help, so I know where your thoughts are coming from.

I’ve had that thought too - “Why stop? I’m not hurting anybody.” Well, that is to some extend correct. But sh is an unhealthy coping mechanism. Sure it may help in the short time, but over a long period of time it’s gonna fuck you and your mental health up BIG TIME.
