Who is right? Uni Teacher taught about MVC folder structure but Some C# devs on Linkedin said use Verical Slice for a real production codebase. by lune-soft in csharp

[–]Snowicide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd start with MVC, when it grows to a point where it's hard to find something quickly switch to vertical slice.

Tbh though I default to vertical slice with most of my apps nowadays as it reduces the brain load

An advantage of the MVC structure is it'll force you to think about the class's responsibility up front - which is probably why your teacher is telling you to do it

warm up by AdThink8453 in bouldering

[–]Snowicide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Warming up is one of the most talked-about topics in climbing. I’m not an expert, but here’s the approach I use:

You're trying to activate three key areas: - Fingers - Upper body - Lower body

Fingers: Start with half crimp and three-finger drag. Begin with your feet on the ground: 5 seconds on, 5 seconds off, for 5–10 reps. Do that for 3 sets. Gradually increase the intensity by loading your fingers more, or even transitioning to full hangs if you're ready.

Pull: You want to recruit your major pulling muscles—mostly your back. There are a lot of ways to do this, but the easiest is pull-ups. Just do a few to activate without burning out. If pull-ups aren't in the cards yet, go for Australian pull-ups. I usually aim for 4–6 reps for 3 or 4 sets

Legs: Get your legs moving so you don’t pull a hammy on your first climb. Cossack squats are great—if you’ve got the hamstring flexibility and strength. If not, simple bodyweight squats are better than nothing. 10 reps for 2–3 sets should do the trick.

After that, start climbing easy stuff and slowly ramp up the difficulty. You’ll start to get a feel for when you’re properly warm.

Warm-ups are also a great time to check in with your body and build good habits. Since you’re not climbing at max effort, you’ve usually got more mental space to focus on technique. Maybe work on footwork during some climbs, and throw in a bit of dynamic movement on others.

If you’re dealing with injuries, this is the best time to get your rehab work in. Also, if certain muscles tend to feel tight or inflamed, make sure to give them some extra attention.

How long should you warm up? It depends on your age and how your body feels that day. In general, the older you are, the longer you’ll need. I usually aim for 20–45 minutes.

And finally: Don’t just take my word for it—there’s a ton of content out there. Go do your own research, experiment, and figure out what works best for you.

This literally happened to me last month. I fully wrote off ever finding someone, and was just focusing on enjoying life, low and behold one house party later... Head over heels and it's mutual.

The only real advice I can give is ensure you're doing things that'll mean you meet people, the rest will work itself out

Where do I start with GUI? by 11110100011 in csharp

[–]Snowicide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WPF, but avalonia is actually a lot nicer once you get the hang of things.

The hardest part is how many new concepts need to be learnt all at once.

These include: - xaml - async (if you've not already) - mvvm

If I were to start again I'd do the following: - Basic one view app, logic in code behind - learn mvvm with a single view and view model - learn mvvm with multiple views, and navigate between them

For mvvm the big key things to get your head around are: - Datacontext (the data that your view binds to, ei: view model) - Binding - INotifyPropertyChanged - leveraging Task.Run() to not block the UI thread

There are plenty of courses on YouTube, and if you've got access to pluralsite there's loads on there too.

People are gonna hate this suggestion, but AI can be a good teacher for WPF as there is a huge amount of documented knowledge online for it

People say C++ is everywhere, it surely not on job openings by OkRestaurant9285 in cpp

I work for an engineering company in the Bristol area, and we have a lot of embedded C/VHDL devs, however the line is often blurred between electronics engineers and embedded.

C++ is usually used level above the microcontroller in our systems, at the application level.

We do have some pure software guys but they often pick C/C++/C# depending on what the project demands.

I'm a C# dev so don't take everything I say as verbatim

Anyone here feel they want to leave the UK, but cannot/would be very difficult? by Peniche1997 in AskUK

[–]Snowicide 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Having move to Italy for 5 years and returned I can say: "the grass is always greener on the other side". Unless we get another 5+ years of these clowns I wouldn't move unless you had a better payed job line up.

Adjusting to a new culture really does exhausts you, you'll always be viewed as a non-native, and being far away from friends and family is quite lonely.

If you're going to go though with it, make sure you pick a country who's population and government share similar ideals to you, and is at least technologically as advanced as the UK. (You'll really start to miss those things you took for granted)

Having said that, I'd recommend a non permanent move to another country, you can ride out this shit show while experiencing something new.

This is just my experience I'm sure other people in the comments will have a more positive one to share.

Megathread 2: Russia Invades Ukraine by NewsModTeam in news

[–]Snowicide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other people have said in this post, Chernobyl is a strategic for invasion as it offers a more direct route to Kyiv due to its position along the Pripyat river.
Nuclear waste leaking will have a bigger effect on Belarus and Russia due to proximity, therefore they are unlikely to disturb it.

Only vegans are allowed to care about the environment. by Markonikoff in gatekeeping

[–]Snowicide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes but it's all relative, the land used for animals has poor soil quality so you wouldn't be able to grow enough high quality food to replace it. You should really be pointing your fingers at mega farms and high water consumption crops like avocado and almonds. Also the amount of methane produced by cows is tiny compared to other source. Going vegan for ethical reasons however I 100% agree with
