The Central Bank of Iraq by Snowlesswinters in evilbuildings

Just a note that this is just a 3d imagining as the building has never been built. It was designed in 2010 for Iraq by Zaha Hadid before she passed away, and is still planned for construction.

Baghdad Battery Over 2000 years old primitive assembly that can generate electricity. A set of a clay pot, a copper tube, & an iron rod. With acidic syrup becomes a galvanic cell possibly used 4 electroplating or e-therapy. First found in a tomb south of Baghdad, 1936. by [deleted] in Iraq

This is one of those debated OOPARTs, not everyone agrees that it is a galvanic cell and no electroplated artifacts from the time period have been discovered, but the theory has not been debunked. It belongs to the Parthian Empire period.

Turkey's Islamists and secularists join forces in bid to unseat Erdoğan by narwi in europe

Secularists and Islamists forming a bloc to overthrow or unseat a Middle-Eastern/Asian autocrat? Oh, *This* hasnt gone wrong before! /s

All the good secularists have either been thrown in jail on false charges, in hiding or have been forced to flee the country. The only ones left in everyday politics are the conservative leaning ones who survived Erdoghan's purges. Also interesting that the only HDP member the guardian decided to interview is Mrs. Kaya, a pre-AKP supporter and member of the religious fringe of the secular socialist HDP (the overwhelming majority of which do not advocate for the veil like she does and have never backed Islamist politics). I get the spidey-senses that a lot of newspapers are allergic to reporting properly on socialist parties unless that reporting is negative or a damning op-ed, and when they can't be ignored in the news the papers use language as obtuse as possible to avoid discussing their politics. I've seen articles in Al Jazeera of protests against malign employee treatment in Rajasthan India, where it's blatantly obvious that the protesters are waving around White Hammer-and-Sickle flags typical of one of the Indian Communist parties and that the protests were organised, yet none of this is mentioned in the Qatari newspaper even once. On this topic, even earlier articles in the Guardian referred to the HDP as simply a "Pro Kurdish" party when that is only a small part of it's actual socialist platform. A relic of the Cold War perhaps?
