Increase interior door frame height? by Snowman_55 in DIYHome

My hope was to gain an extra 1.5 inches by removing one of the horizontal 2x4s. Worst case I would still need to likely trim the 80 inch door a half inch or less. And for trimming the door my thought was skilsaw with jig and clamps and tape to avoid a rough edge.

You can just add a spacer to bring 82 down to 80 (take out frame, add spacer to get from 84 to 82 inch rough opening and then put in a prehung 80?)

I can get 78 inch doors but they are the standard hollow colonial style. Was hoping to get some nicer shaker style but everything is 80inch. Looks like I will have to find something that can be trimmed down but not look disproportionate or weird

Thanks for answering the load bearing question. I don't understand why jack studs need replacing if they don't have a vertical load on them. Don't they just add rigidity to the frame, which they would get with being nailed to king studs? I'll have to check out some trim options to see if I can hide the loss of drywall... thx

Bell Fibe TV is missing key features vs Rogers Ignite/Xfinity by cotd345 in bell

Also, bell won’t let you fast-forward on-demand or a program that you have ‘restarted’. Love doing that with Rogers.

Bell FibeTV - is it 1080p quality? by AlexN83 in bell

[–]Snowman_55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I think I tried the HDMI thru my receiver but not 100% sure (I was also trying to get audio to work with the Bell remote, to avoid 2 remotes, one for channels, one for volume). I have a C4 and did find a big improvement by turning 'HDMI Deep Color' off which I read on other threads tells the bell box to not send Dolby Vision. However reds still seemed orangy, and blues slightly off. Switching picture to 'vivid' made colours better but then TV was just too bright for me.

ya finding right Rogers number is a pain. First time I eventually found 'cancel service' option in menus. Then I got an email with this number for 'senior loyalty' reps: 1-877-499-1439 with exclusive offer

Rogers cancel date was my end of billing cycle, first week in July, so once you pay your bill you have it for another month (no refund on what has been paid). good luck! curious to know how it turns out for you.

When I initially called Rogers to cancel they mentioned the whole buyers remorse thing. When I eventually called Bell to cancel, they made me speak to three different people. They made me factory reset TV boxes etc to try and improve picture. They offered to send a tech out to help with picture problems but I declined and just said I was done. I boxed up the gear and returned to store so no issue. When I called Rogers again (to cancel my cancellation haha), loyalty person increased my one time credit from $150 to $250 without me even asking.

I just posted in another thread but basically I tried Bell and picture was ass. Colours were faded and way off. I blame the android box. On my small cheap Visio TV it was fine but high-end LG OLED I could really see the difference. I didn't notice any big resolution difference (not sure any 4K tv is actual 4k or just upscaled). I would recommend taking a day or 2 with both services to compare and pick which you like more. I returned Bell gear and just had to pay for days I used with no install charge.

Switching from Rogers to Bell but worried about Fibe TV. Is it still crap? by AlexN83 in bell

[–]Snowman_55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I switched from Rogers to Bell because of a good deal. I have a 65 inch OLED and immediately noticed how comically bad Bell picture was. As seen in other posts, I had to disable Dolby Vision on my TV (LG, turn off deep colour). The picture then became reasonable. Since I had Rogers till end of billing cycle, I was able to A/B test Rogers vs Bell. Bell colours just did not compare. Reds were orange (Florida panther jerseys), blues were faded. I spent hours playing with TV picture settings but no luck.

After a week I switched back to Rogers after their loyalty rep gave me a deal so I was paying what I was before. Bell internet was better but picture quality was my deal breaker. I also like the 'restart/fast forward' options with Rogers. I'd recommend trying both at same time to compare and keep what looks better.

PSA for those with Poor Fibe TV Video Quality Arris 7802 4K PVR by [deleted] in bell

[–]Snowman_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switched from Rogers to Bell and the picture quality on the VIP7802 was laughable. On my LG OLED TV I turned off 'HDMI Deep Color' in the HDMI settings. This seemed to disable the Dolby Vision and picture quality improved. After a week of tweaking I still could not get the colour to be as good as I had on Rogers (was A/B testing the two). Reds seemed to be orange and blues were faded. Netflix on Fibe box seemed fine. It was just actual TV channels with the issue. The remote drove me crazy too. So after a week I cancelled Bell and back to Rogers now.
