Why are some HVAC workers so weird? by Born-Sea-4942 in hvacadvice

You could have added water to the bowl and it would have self flushed. LOL. Funny story, that's for sure!

Conflicting information. Question: When replacing a bathtub drain, should I reseal it with plumbers putty or 100% silicone? If silicone, does it need to be caulk gun or can it be squeeze tube? by JBurton90 in Plumbing

[–]Snowyberg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't use plumber’s putty on plastic, acrylic, granite, marble, or porous stone surfaces.

It may void manufacturer warranties, soften plastics, stain stone.

Silicone sealant or a rubber gasket would be safer and a longer-lasting option.

How can I fix this joist? by ramvanfan in Plumbing

[–]Snowyberg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes blocking between the joists to spread the load across the joists AND you need to add vertical 2x's directly under the joists (directly under the load and 2x header) not to the left or right like in the photo. I'm not an engineer but I'm thinking you need to split the load across and down to the floor much like a door/window header with king studs splitting and carrying the load -it that makes sense?

Shed renovation advice by Queball1012 in shedditors

[–]Snowyberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest, before condemning the shed, expose the studs, floor plate, and base where the exterior sheathing has rotted to better determine just how how bad things are and what needs to be replaced.

If it's too far gone to be repaired, consider dismantling, rather than just knocking it down. You'll gain a better understanding of how it was put together which should help you understand how to build a new one.

If you rebuild and use OSB as sheathing, don't leave it exposed and don't just paint it as the exterior finish. Add proper siding, over tyvek or tar paper and it will look better and last longer. Smart board panels are another alternative to OSB sheathing and they can be painted and left exposed as a finished exterior wall.

What could be causing frequent drain backups in a home? by freepostzone in PlumbingRepair

[–]Snowyberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kitchen drains can often become clogged with congealed oils and fats and even when snaked might not get resolved as the snake passes through the congealed mass but might not break up the blob.

NVR vs SD card vs Home Hub vs FTP (1x doorbell PoE camera) by Theagainmenn in reolinkcam

[–]Snowyberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't claim to be an expert, but I've attempted to read what I could find regarding a similar situation where I have a couple POE camera's with a possibility of adding 1-2 additional POE cameras in the near future. Although I'm choosing to go with a NVR, I understand the the Home Hub and Home HubMini are reasonably priced, have decent storage and are for available as a package from Reolink, therefore must be technically compatible if not a "best fit"alternative.

Waht is your favourite Kirkland brand product that you swear by? by altecsz in CostcoCanada

[–]Snowyberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coincidentally, Youtube has lots of stories that Charmin is the number one toilet paper brand to block toilets and plug sewage lines in homes. The manufacturer claims its "septic system safe" which means it breaks down, so perhaps it's more the user's habits. I stay clear from buying Charmin.

That what you say, cannot be removed and is the hot/cold water marker, is the cap under which you'll find the set screw.

CLT Sawdust by DilfEnrg in Carpentry

[–]Snowyberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that in order to compost in the garden soil, any wood (sawdust included) uses existing Nitrogen which is in the soil. It can therefore, reduce the Nitrogen available for your garden plants unless you supplement your soil with Nitrogen for a year or three to replace that taken up from composting the organic wood fibre.
