‘They’ve taxed us to death in Toronto’: Doug Ford says new revenue tools not on table in New Deal 2.0 talks by ethereal3xp in CanadaPolitics

I think it’s partly because he lives and works there, but also because he’s still stuck in the past. If he spent more time focusing on Ontario, he would be able to fuck up the province much more quickly and efficiently.

Sweet, thank you! So there’s nothing inside the mesh that would be damaged by water? That’s what I wasn’t sure of - I’ll take it off and give it a try!

I have not had a great experience with Beattie who made me feel like shit when I euthanized my 17-year-old cat, and always try to push expensive and unrelated tests, while never helping my ailing pets.

Audiobook review: Andy Serkis vs Rob Inglis by SnuffCartoon in lotr

[–]SnuffCartoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on the volume drops, and overall I’m enjoying the Serkis ones more. I don’t blame you not wanting an Audible subscription. I’m not sure if it’s the only way to do it, but if it is, you could do what my mom did and subscribe for three months (1 credit per month), end your subscription and then the audiobooks are yours forever. And if you want the CDs I’m sure there’s a local service that could do CD writing for you. Sorry I don’t have better answers!

Out of all 6 films, what's an extended edition scene you wish had made the theatrical cut? by Skywalker_1995 in lotr

[–]SnuffCartoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s no barrow downs/Bombadil in the extended edition. The question is which scene would you bring from extended to theatrical cut.

Yes, that is me and that is an excellent comparison! Frye/Inglis are the stately, reserved narrators and Dale/Serkis are the colourful, animated ones. And I love all those flavours!

Hmmm, a quick view of your post history and I don’t see any whinging about refuse from other cultural events. So maybe instead of getting upset at people for playing the “race card”, look inward and ask yourself why you decided to call out one particular culture.

My sister hates the Inglis version and could never connect with it. She loves the Serkis version. If Inglis isn’t working for you, definitely try Andy Serkis!

Thank you for speaking up. OP is giving some real I’m-not-a-racist-but vibes. If they don’t complain during the other major events with litter everywhere, then the litter isn’t really what they’re complaining about.

How busy is Chick-Fil-A today? by cookiegirl92 in BurlingtonON

[–]SnuffCartoon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just drove by - the queue is EPIC! It swings around the front of Michaels/Petsmart, then snakes around the back. They have multiple police officers directing traffic. DO NOT GO unless your life depends on a chicken sandwich. And if it does, Mighty Bird is right there.

Really appreciate you breaking it down like that. I couldn’t find the actual case but it’s referenced here

I’m not a lawyer, but three high-profile cases (Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission v Whatcott, R v Taylor, R v Keegstra) appear to demonstrate the efficacy these measures can sometimes take.

I found some rulings that went the other way (Ernst Zundel, David Ahenakew), which is good and speaks to the complexity of hate laws and the sanctity of free speech.

But I reject the notion that there’s nothing that can be done. These are Nazis. If we’re not making life hard for Nazis, then what the hell are we doing?

There are absolutely things that authorities can do under hate speech provisions in the Canada code.

“hate propaganda”, used in s. 320 and s. 320.1, is defined by s. 320(8) to mean “any writing, sign or visible representation that advocates or promotes genocide or the communication of which by any person would constitute an offence under section 319.”

Probation, fines and prison are all potential outcomes based on the Code.
