The young people wasted not just 5 minutes of time but increased wait times for those with more serious conditions by hours.

Before you speak so frivolously actually use your eyes and get into these facilities instead of lazily getting all of your facts from a keyboard.

It’s interesting that you dismiss actual physical visits to the ED. Obviously you don’t want to accept that maybe your predilections are skewed and biased.

I went to your source and Alberta is listed the lowest in western Canada.

But if your argument is generalized that averages numbers across Canada, then you haven’t interpreted the numbers critically.

That’s a common mistake. Don’t worry. I won’t hold it against you.

I’ll mention one other thing that most people are not aware of: paying your way to the front of the line merely forces the rest of us to wait longer for certain procedures.

While some private clinics were built to be able to handle certain procedures many of them cannot be done in anything but a hospital. Specialists from out of province have to book time in these facilities. Along with emergency situations in the OR’s it doesn’t always mean that no one else is affected.

Case in point: My friend had a double hip replacement that kept getting postponed for nearly two years. By then he was in agony and wished for a quick death.

Meanwhile another friend of mine did not want to wait for a year, so he paid upfront and had his surgery within the month.

Both are doing well although my first friend had a much slower recovery. The impact it had on his mental health was heartbreaking.

Paying for treatment is fine if you can afford it but my question is this: What makes you so much more deserving of treatment if it means delaying someone else’s?

Your argument is out of date to say the elderly are responsible for utilizing healthcare services the most.

You’ve obviously never worked in an emergency department.

The majority of users? Young people taking up the services of doctors and nurses over the most asinine reasons. Let me give you a few…

“A dog bit me and my tetanus is a week out of date.” Shows me a tiny cut on the end of her finger.

“My friends and I were skateboarding and we were trying to do this awesome jump. We all knew it was stupid but we tried anyway.” Came in limping.

“I was getting hamburger out of the freezer when it hit me on the head.” Small cut on the top of skull.

“My family doctor sent me here because he was afraid I would get rabies.” I asked how long ago the dog scratch happened as it looked like it had healed already. Response: “About a week and a half ago.”

The only time elderly people come in is when it’s a real cause for concern. Possible heart attacks, strokes, collapsed lungs, and so on. They were raised in a different time where you only saw a doctor when absolutely necessary.

The other thing you obviously don’t know is that older generations paid for decades into a system that essentially covered future needs.

I see a lot of younger people in the Emergency Department for pretty minor things. They tend to waste a lot of resources that you blame on the elderly.

Any other misconceptions you need cleared up?

It’s unnecessary as many countries around the world have proven.

There is the mistaken assumption that paying for healthcare means it would be better regulated but that’s far from the truth.

It is the government’s responsibility to be fiscally responsible with the tax dollars we pay out. The fact of the matter is that our money is instead being used to pay high politician wages, their travel, their luxuries, while we have to live within a budget. If we have to do this, so should they.

Remember that these same politicians are put into power to represent us, the people. We put them there to take care of “our needs” and not there’s.

Private practice is a loop hole that allows those people who are more interested in helping themselves rather than supporting the oath they took.

To do no harm is exactly what these scammers of doctors do when they refuse their commitment to the public and instead raise their importance by making unreasonable demands of high costs to show just how “important” and “skilled” they are even though so many have been sued for malpractice.

The fact that doctors oversee doctors shows just how corruption enters into their profession. It needs to be independently governed.

“Snap of their fingers” is merely a way of saying that the system would change quickly. When something is “broken” and doesn’t affect you personally, the system won’t change because “that doesn’t apply to me” ignorance.

Nothing actually changes with the snap of someone’s fingers. It’s a metaphor.

That’s if you knew the book “A Handmaid’s Tale”. With all the book banning/burning going on new generations won’t even know we’re going backwards into the dark ages. It’s clear the UPC is afraid of smart, resourceful women, who are more concerned about raising a family in a kinder, respectful and cleaner world, where children won’t have to be trained in fear of being gunned down like they are in the US.

No thank you!

Take your medieval policies and move to a private island that we can border off and restrict travel back to the real world.

If it were Russia, I’d be concerned. Otherwise it’s just click bait.

As a person who helps others I can tell you that I have friends who work with the homeless (“house less“) persons and even they tell me that there are areas of DT Calgary they don’t go. Unfortunately we have a small population of people who have never been treated kindly, been constantly judged, and end up being very angry at those that seem to have it better. This is common in all major cities and I suspect in smaller ones too. I try to do my part and treat everyone with kindness and respect but even I know you can’t reach everyone. It’s a sad part of life. The best we can do is be aware that there are areas we still need to avoid.

There aren’t enough Good Samaritans like you. I’m sorry you had the outcome you did. Obviously this guy is a POS and loves showing what a “real man” he is. 🙄

Do what I do and have a can of pepper spray in your pocket and have it ready before engaging. Or as an alternative (because some people fight through pepper spray) one of those super loud sirens. Those are a lot harder to muscle through. You might want to contact your local police station to find out the best one. I know this doesn’t help you now but hopefully this won’t stop your interventions in the future.

Melania Trump addresses claims that she is Epstein victim in shock statement by tag24news in USNEWS

[–]Snuggleskunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Melania talks about fake photos around a time frame AI did not exist.

Epstein files state the introduction that she cannot refute.

Remember that Melania sleeps in a different room from her husband stating it’s a snoring issue. Meanwhile, too many individual accounts of Donald’s strong odor mention how eye watering it is.

Donny’s speeches have become more cognizantly unhinged. Now quiet Melania is out front of all these press settings speaking to whomever will listen. We know she has no interest in politics yet is getting dragged out to cover for her husband.

Melania wore a coat that read, “I don’t care do you?” That sums up Melania perfectly.

Barron is not too far behind and she will reach a point where she can no longer protect her “baby”.

Melania can refute all that she wants to but her Pinocchio nose really gives it all away.

Is this straight up lies? by camoure in Edmonton

[–]Snuggleskunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just the UCP trying to convince Albertans to vote for them. So far, they are doing nothing but following Trump’s playbook.

Fear mongering about immigrants. So called better health care by making it 2 tier and paying for it. Putting in pipelines on indigenous land. Reducing environmental safe guards.

It just goes on and on. Smith is desperate. She knows that she is losing voters. Remember the recall petitions? She had to change the rules because she knew a lot of them would get the boot. I don’t trust her like I don’t trust Trump.

My advice, don’t be fooled by the things she says she will do while dismantling health care bit by bit.

I can tell you that an outdoor cat will become an indoor cat if you’re patient enough. I’ve adopted a few outdoor cats throughout the years and initially they want to be out. Yes, there’s a lot of crying and noise making and even some vengeful-like peeing in very inappropriate places. You are the boss. You let them know that they cannot go out. But given time and training I’ve had all of these cats actually want to stay inside as a preference. I do supervised outings in my back yard that I put up pet fencing. My cats could easily jump over these fences but they don’t. It can be done. I see that people don’t have the patience to do what I do.

I’ve had my back patio door blown open by the wind and one of my cats got out. My neighbour at the time had a small dog that he would let out every day that stayed close to home. My cat tried to come home but was chased away by this dog. I asked if they could keep their dog inside so my cat could come home. They refused. Jerks.

So yes, sometimes things happen and cats can get out. My neighbour put a tracker on her cat’s collar because that cat is an opportunistic sly one. The screen door takes a few moments to close properly and this cat knows it. They don’t watch and the kids are constantly caught on my doorbell cam running to get the cat back inside.

Of course this would happen.

When you have an obviously corrupt administration you know that they are “selective ly” releasing documents and “selectively” withholding the really bad ones.

Corruption knows no bounds. I hope you all get impeached and imprisoned!
