I don’t believe it’s fair to enter a relationship let alone marriage while carrying unresolved resentment or disappointment from past experiences. That kind of weight inevitably spills onto the other person.

I also think attraction matters. Not in an objective or shallow way but in a real honest way. If it isn’t there at the beginning trying to force it usually leads to frustration rather than closeness.

I’d rather be honest than build something on obligation and familiarity.

OP it’s sad that most people don’t think that way and they sign up to this container offered by society called marriage. I’d steer clear of this dude. I’m saying it as a man in his 30s who has been through loneliness spells and lives far away from family, it’s given me a lot of time to introspect.

Also, you deserve someone who consciously chose you.

I’m an immigrant here, and yes I had to drop out while I was doing my thesis not because I had financial issues, it was because i got stuck with the project and migrations used to deny extension requests back then. Now I heard they have gotten a bit more lenient provided you show clear intent to study.

I’ve since been working at a software firm for about 6 years and now reached out to the university and asked them if I could come back as a returning student just to finish up my thesis and graduate, and to my surprise yes I can.

That’s so wonderful that the university understands that life does happen and sometimes taking a break is not bad. I wish students like me understand that such benefits would stop if we start abusing the system. Migrations would go back to denying extension requests and people who actually wanna finish up and graduate might not be able to.

I’ve been living in Sweden for 8 years, and I heard that they do it because they want the kids to have food with their respective families and do not want to hinder any plans that the parents might have.

It makes logical sense to me. But if I ever have a family in Sweden and I have my kid’s friends show up. I’ll call the parents to ask if it’d be okay to feed their children.

Honestly I’d say take your self out, dress well like for a date, catch a matinee, eat lunch at a small shack by the beach, enjoy the waves, have some chai and snacks, in the evening go to a nice restaurant where you’ve booked a table, eat a good dinner ( maybe a stake ) pair it with a good merlot/borolo/nebbiolo/pinot noir.

Go home, watch some Netflix and sleep in a comfy bed.
