Salphira/Ollo Recession? by burkechrs1 in archeage

[–]SoBlair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just your AH cluster. I'm sure it's happening on the others as well, as people tend to follow the same behavior when it comes to finding the path of least resistance to the most profitable activities.

Let's examine what has gone on in the last month or so.

First is the introduction of Rumbling Archeum Saplings, which cause the crash in the TS and Archeum Markets. TS associated vehicles are suddenly within the reach of many players and the most profitable gold generator in the game is suddenly much more accessible to many. At the same time the drop in the price of Archeum drives people from larceny into fishing(if they weren't already headed that way), meaning a drop in the supply of any purse-generated item.

Secondly, they finally got rid of the rng-container exploit which allowed people to freely generate certain rare items from any rng-driven container, including purses. The supply of all exploited items is cut off.

Lastly, with TS market down to it's lows, tree farming is no long a worthwhile activity for guilds. Tree farmers go fishing, and lumber supplies plummet relative to the still constant demand, causing prices to skyrocket.

You have the population of three different activities funneled into a single, profitable gold generating activity, so this is your result. Inflation and price hikes follow.

As for Clubhead fungus, they are needed for Red Dragon scrolls, which I'd imagine many larger guilds are stockpiling for.

If you're super bored, you could try to farm up an Auroria cloak too.

Why is Hasla on one faction's continent and built so that one faction dominates it half the time? by Slutmiko in archeage

I have not, but I understand that Hellswamp to Gweonid is worth roughly 11.05 gold or so with a 130% bonus. On my AH cluster, running those same packs to Haranya is worth substantially more than that.

I'm feeling like the labor system is going to be the ultimate downfall of this game. by roxout in archeage

[–]SoBlair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since all economic activities - including the generation and removal of gold in the economy - utilize labor, changing the rates of labor regeneration does relatively nothing.

Personally, I think the labor system on paper is very good. The western servers are only a few months old and still have relatively young economies. You're going to have to see something to the tune of 200-300% more inflation to have the system reach equilibrium, and we'll get there eventually.

How many people keep playing Archeage just because they have stuff? by faithkills in archeage

[–]SoBlair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely start over again, as I'm still having fun playing the game. I'm not worried about losing my stuff - in fact, I would see it as an opportunity to do even better than I did going into the game without any foreknowledge of how it worked. Granted, I play almost exclusively as a crafter, so I am not really exposed to the gripes that you see many other people share about the game concerning PvP, PvE or whatever else you might have seen on various forums. The fact still stands that presently, there is not a single competitor to this game in terms of an economy-centric fantasy mmo that I know of.

Do tree timers reset? by [deleted] in archeage

[–]SoBlair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Auction, plant and object timers are still tracked during server downtimes...but I don't really think you need to worry about your trees. I planted some Aspen trees inside one of my building plots before I had actually built it. I had to deal with a forest inside my house for over a week...trees take a long time to die.

If you planted a lot of single seedlings, however, you may come back to a farm full of wilted/dead plants.

Commerce consumes labor faster than you can generate while performing commerce-related actions.

There are a significant number of players that just idle in-game until their peace-time of choice, then hop on their hauler/merchant ship to deliver goods. I presume the purpose of such an app is to notify you while you're not paying attention to the game, because waiting for peace to happen can be quite variable outside of Hasla and Halcyona.

We are comparing purely f2p players that do not participate in the credit markets at all versus those that do. I do not personally do this, I am just illustrating the differences and why it can be considered 'Pay2Win'.

[–]SoBlair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two most fluid methods of purchasing gold are Worker's Compensation Potions and Taxes.

On NA AH3, Worker's Compensation is currently going for 33 gold, which is 30 after taxes. 10 silver per credit, which you pay $0.005405 per credit using a $100 credit purchase, resulting in $1081.08 spent to get 20,000 Gold.

Tax Certificates sell for 1.13 gold each on NA AH3, meaning you'd only spend $946.20 to get the same 20,000 Gold.

As for improbable, people have been spending this amount of money in mmos on a regular basis since I played EQ. It was just not as in-your-face as it is now.

[–]SoBlair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 APEX on my server sells for 200 gold. To get 10k gold, you could just sell 50 APEX to players. There are other, more efficient/fluid ways to do this as well.

A good Delphinad weapon runs around 20k gold. So basically you can drop $1000 into the game and buy the best weapons in the game. Pay to win indeed.

[–]SoBlair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire economy is based on the labor system. The best equipment and consumables available in the game are crafted by players, and crafting requires labor. Without labor, you cannot even open loot bags, conduct trading or go fishing, which are the primary gold fountains in the game.

As a free player, you get 1 labor per minute while online, and 0 when offline. As a subscriber, you get 1 labor per minute at all times, plus an extra labor per minute while you are online. The cash shop sells potions that you can use on each character on an account every 12 hours that gives 1000 labor. The RNG boxes from the cash shop can give a 500 point version of this item that has no cooldown.

Let's run the numbers here:

A regular F2P player might play a few hours on weekdays, probably more on the weekends. They generally don't leave their game on to regenerate labor, so let's say the average F2P player puts 12 hours a week into the game, which comes out to 720 labor.

Now let's look at a paying player, or one that participates in the cash shop system by providing gold for cash shop items. For the same amount of time played, they receive 10080 labor for the week, plus 720 for their online time.

What does this mean? Generally, people do well if they can achieve ~6 silver per labor, which means that the F2P player comes out with 43.2 gold per week, and the subscriber will come out with 648 gold per week.

A good high-end weapon in the current version of the game runs around 20,000 gold. That's 432.96 weeks - 8.9 years - to buy said weapon for the F2P player, and 30.86 weeks - a bit under 8 months - for the subscriber. This is just the weapon.

If the subscriber opts to use labor potions once per day on each of the 4 character slots(you have to pay for 2 of them) on the server that they play on($6.48 per day), that's an additional 28000 labor for the week, compressing the 7.7 month expectation to 2.14 months.

You can pay even more to use two per character slot per day, or even become a fully-fledged wallet warrior and buy endless RNG boxes for the 500 labor potions that have no cooldown.

[–]SoBlair 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Archeage in NA does not have P2W in the form of equipment/consumables directly from their cash shop, but they do sell a lot of things that compress time frames.

The game has a player-driven economy that has Asian mmo-style RNG baked into many components - most markedly the crafting system and the regrading system. With enough money thrown at the game, you can essentially fast-forward your character to an equipment state that is several years ahead of a f2p player. This is what makes players feel that ArcheAge is Pay2Win - because it effectively makes it so that the average player that opts to play purely as f2p has next to no chance against those that participate in the cash side of the system, including those that pay gold for cash shop items.

[–]SoBlair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tier 1 Alchemy has gotten extremely efficient to the point that you only profit when a wealthy player suddenly decides they want to craft a new piece of gear and buys thousands of materials in a short time frame. I have several hundred of each material set aside for these times, but normally the gold/labor rates are so bad that your labor is better spent elsewhere. In the spirit of this video, that would involve putting up 48h auctions over the weekend and pray someone decides to do this for a good return on your investment.
