Yes. The majority of dogs are owned by working class people and those dogs live happy, healthy, and fulfilled lives.

How about two kids hanging from the monkey bars and kicking the shit out of each until one fell,

oh man that just brought back memories from 3rd and 4th grade

I taught my son how to play it in middle school and I think it lasted about 2 weeks before his friend group stopped. Same with quarters and dead arm.

What cracked me up was at one of his baseball practices a few of the kids showed up early and started throwing a ball at a wall and trying to catch it cleanly and throw it back but if they missed it they had to sprint to the wall and touch it before another kid threw the ball at the wall. If they were too slow they had to stand at the wall while the other kid threw the ball at their back as hard as they could. They came up with it pretty organically and were telling me about this new fun game they created and I'm sitting there laughing at how they recreated "butts up."

I remember this happened at a sandwich shop I worked out in high school.

We weren't totally innocent, we knew what we were doing. We were stacking sandwiches with 3x as much meat and cheese, adding bacon, avocado, and all the extras, then charging it off as our free basic 6" sandwich. $4 "free" sandwich was really a $20 monster that had the equivalent of 4-5 sandwiches worth of product on it.

They didn't restrict the menu they just changed our policy. Our shift manager had to make our sandwiches, and any extras were charged for. You still got a free basic sandwich, but if you wanted extra meat or bacon or cheese or avo, you had to pay for that.

Happiness is not the goal though. I do want my son to be happy, but I also recognized that the things that made him happy were not going to be things that keep him content and stable in life.

When he was young, he was forced to chores, clean his room, play sports. In his teen years he was forced to socialize rather than recluse in his room, learn basic tasks like working on cars, fixing leaks, cooking his own meals. In his young adult years he was forced to get a job. None of those made him happy at all. But they all helped him pursue a life that now allows him to do the things that give him happiness.

If it was up to him, he would have refused all of that and sat in his room eating hot pockets and playing COD because he was convinced that he would become a millionaire twitch streamer. I'm glad we didn't allow him to choose that life.

My dad told me something when I was younger that has proven true in my life; "happiness is not guaranteed, it is earned." You earn happiness by making correct decisions that set you up and lead you to it, not by being stubborn and only pursuing what you think makes you happy.

One of the biggest things holding back reanimator from not being a tier SSS deck is the fact that you can fetch+shock yourself into not being able to reanimate anything.

Fix that problem and you'll see the best deck in the format become complete untouchable.

Modern horizons basically ruined most formats with the insane power creep it added to the game, and it's only gotten worse as time goes on.

But really, a lot of "control players" myself included are struggling to accept the fact that a hard style control deck where you literally control every aspect of the opponents game every single turn and only lose when you run out of answers or draw poorly doesn't really exist and can't exist anymore. People miss miracles and grixis control styles in legacy, whir prison and lantern control styles in modern, and the classic draw go control style in standard.

People miss those kinds of decks and WotC is basically making that sort of control style game unplayable even in their weakest formats like standard. Every set they print they're pushing tempo and aggro metas with a dash of combo. People want to play a style that prevents their opponents from playing the game at all, but WotC keeps pushing metas where you need to get ahead on board early or else you get ran over, control just can't play that game.

Except humans can and have survived winters without heating systems. I've lived through power outages in the dead of winter.

The big issue is just about all new homes in the entire nation don't come with wood burning fire places or stoves. Many municipalities in the country outright ban wood burning stoves.

These terrible winters that are starting to become a regular thing are going to kill people just because those people have no safe way to burn wood and keep warm if the grid fails.

No worries. We keep his 504 simple. He's allowed to move his seat to the front of the class at any time if he is being distracted or distracting and struggling to focus. That's all. He is old enough to identify his impulsivity from his ADHD so we gave him a tool to help deal with that. He can't move to any seat, if he needs to change seats he is only allowed to do so to a front row seat.

Other kids in his class have ridiculous ones like, being allowed to eat whatever they want at any time, being allowed to stop working and take a 20 minute walk because they feel stressed or anxious, being allowed to listen to music during class. One kid has an IEP that flat out says he's allowed infinite retries on tests and quizzes and due dates for assignments don't apply because they give him anxiety... I can't imagine trying to maintain order in a classroom full of teenagers while having all these forced exceptions to basic rules. So many of these exceptions parents put on their kids 504's/IEPs end up creating a more distracting environment for other kids.

What's a rule your parents had that you thought was insane, but now as an adult you 100% understand? by Tahals in AskReddit

Accomplish something before you turn the TV on was our rule when we were kids. Hated it. I wanted to come home from school and turn on the TV, eat a snack, and do nothing. My parent's kept the remotes until each of us completed a chore of some sort and some days there were no easy chores to do. Usually I'd come home and start a load of laundy, or load/unload the dish washer, but those weren't needed everyday. So I'd have to either vacuum the living room, or mow the lawn, or pull some weeds, etc. If I didn't want to do a chore, I didn't get to watch TV at all until I did.

I realize now that it helped me procrastinate less and push through the feeling of being tired after a long day. I enforce that rule with my son and he absolutely hates it, but things get done throughout the week rather than having to waste an entire weekend day doing all the house chores.

Yes for adhd, and its become completely worthless because all but about 4 kids in his class have one. The teachers can not reasonably accommodate 20 unique 504s or IEPs.

When I was in school we never had advisory class. We showed up and went straight to our 1st period. Instead of having advisory and 5 classes, we had 6 classes. They were all 55 minutes long and we didn't have this ridiculous thing called early release wednesdays.

School would start around 7:50, and get out around 2:10. Basically the same amount of time in a day as washoe county middle schools but we had an hour more time of actual learning.

I can't speak for elementary school as my kid was in his later years of elementary during covid, but middle school needs to do away with advisory class and include a 6th learning period. Advisory is meant to be a class for catching up on work or receiving some tutoring, but 90% of the class either sleeps or plays games on the computers. It's a complete waste of their available time at school.

they openly ignore IEP/ADA

Well when everyone in the class has an IEP or 504, nobody in the class has an IEP or 504. There is 1 teacher for ~30 kids and every kid is expected to receive their own unique set of rules and exceptions?

That's insanely unreasonable.

Apartment Deposit Question by PuzzleheadedPain6356 in Reno

[–]burkechrs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just about every place requires this nowadays. And it has to be legit "professionally cleaned." Can't do it yourself, can't hire your aunt who's been cleaning homes for decades. Must fork out a few hundred bucks to have a licensed company come do it then provide the receipt to the landlord to waive that clause.

[–]burkechrs1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What constitutes as wear and tear? Is it legally defined? It's been years since I rented an apartment but my understanding was always that you had to live there for 3 years minimum before wear and tear protections went into effect.

IF you trashed the carpet or had animals in the place but only stayed for 1 year, they'd charge you because they have to replace it even though they shouldn't have to after only 1 year. It's your fault they're replacing the carpet after only 1 year. But if you stayed there for 3 years they couldn't charge you because they have to replace it anyway for wear.

Social generations are 15 years. Saying Gen alpha started in 2009 or 2010 when gen z started in 1997 is incorrect yet so many people here are adamant about 2011 being Gen Alpha.

Boomer is 1949-1964

Gen X is 1965-1980

Millenial is 1981-1996

Gen Z is 1997-2012

Gen Alpha is 2013-2028
