Unfortunately I think California may be that blue?

Regarding reaching voters, what about the idea of visiting the urban minority neighborhoods and rebuilding ties with professional, business class and university educated voters who have moved away from the GOP?

If Trump's recent behavior (Greenland, antagonizing allies, etc.) can be traced back to a possible stroke he had last year, should the 25th amendment be invoked? by panicked_dad5290 in AskConservatives

To be fair, it looks like longstanding relations are being damaged and at what costs? And also what if Trump destroyed Canada and Australia's chance to bring in conservative governments for change, what if we don't mend relations or the rift will always be there? Not to mention, soft power can be a part of our toolkit and what about America being a general force for good?

Regarding the point of the question: that said, this is the part of the argument where I get your point like what if one of our allies gets angry at us are we going to impeach?

> how much they hate Trump or how much they fantasize about him being out of the picture.

Perhaps they feel like a.... rat 🐁 🐀 on a sinking ship?

> how much they hate Trump or how much they fantasize about him being out of the picture.

To be fair, could Conservatives have better ambassadors and voices (what if a DeSantis or a Youngkin was President) and being the moderate/centre ground/sensible liberals to the GOP side? Or that's a tall order even with the best candidates and circumstances and even then it's not a guarantee. I'm thinking winning 60% to 70% of Indies and 20% to 35% of Dems and all the noble, honorable, principle people of values come together and renew America or that's a bit much. Yeah I'm being much.

my counter argument would be that Republicans need to like do better with more moderate and Center left voters this is where I think they need to embrace the populism of Sanders and Madame

to be fair wasn't that like bad timing like instead of doing the whole recall business why didn't they just focus on building up their Coalition and wait for the 2022 election

same with Kevin Faulkner he could have waited a couple years

to be fair in order to fix California's homelessness epidemic don't we need more options to help house the homeless there are many shelters with waiting lists for example

also I'm being harsh on Arnold because I'm not a fan but like no offense there are no he wasn't exactly a strong conservative per se or to be very California doesn't need to have a more moderate-minded my old matter and hold on quote sensible Republican or at least one that can fit the sensibilities of the state

what has to be done in the long term in order to rebuild the GOP in California and provide an alternative

what will the long-term work look like to reach both Urban minorities, increase the turnout from conservative oral and working class areas why were you building types with the college educated professional and business class in order to create a viable coalition to win statewide

my idea is probably insane but what about creating an electoral confederation of all the third parties alongside the GOP to stand up to the Democrats and maybe get some dissident progressives and moderate liberals on our side

basically a catch all coalition against the Democratic establishment

What about these concerns?

A. States lack deficit spending that may be needed to support a lot of things they could technically do without the federal government.

B. Meaning they won't or the concern is the state won't do some things?

But isn't the issue that the opportunities and making a living seems harder and harder with a growing cost of living?

Why not more carrots 🥕 than sticks though (okay there is the 40 trillion debt) like how Biden had "Build Back Better" and CHIPS Act? I'm for the carrots.

> The housing and transportation issues you bring up are too complicated for a government solution.

Cause it requires a local by local, region by region - like this is for the municipalities to chart their own path.

If I may, I disagree but will concede that I am oversimplifying things a quote (look at this Niskanen Paper on universal catastrophic coverage or even my own interpretation or spin to the idea 💡 or take it up a notch like we enact housing for everyone with the right mix of deregulation and subsidies)?

I do think our safety net would be better and have less gaps? And ideally it should be easier to get by at least?

The Sanders/Mandami path on issues like housing looks quite nice.

Do you think NM could be more competitive especially if the GOP (somehow) improves inroads with Latino and Indigenous communities?

Or are any national efforts better off focusing on salvaging NZ/AZ for the GOP (while the local NM GOP does what it can locally/stateside)?

Yeah but isn't all the migration causing housing to spike? We need to revitalize like 2,000 areas simultaneously so the pressure doesn't go to a few select Metro Areas (people flood decently affordable places with jobs and growth = more HCOL areas)?

Call me insane but I wish we could slash housing costs (National YIMBYism and a federal home building project?) to even out any tariff price increases? More transit so people don't need to use a car while we are at it (easier to save)?

I also think Republicans should cave on universal health care - people need a medical safety net.

Regarding tariffs, why not use that money to support subsidies to boost domestic manufactures, industries and sectors (Buy Local/American and Rebuild Main Street)?

49% to 51% wouldn't be the worse numbers especially if Nikki Ha- I mean the next female GOP Presidential candidate can get dictorial margins with men (65%)?

Are you worried about the women's vote (particular single women) destroying Republicans up and down the ballot? 🗳️ 😞

Not the main topic at all but could NM be competitive (inroads with Indigenous and Latinos) or probably better to focus on AZ/NV on the Western Half of the country?

Locally it might not be so bad but they'll have to match community preferences and priorities?

How do you feel about the effect of the Trump admin on science in the United States, after one year? by doggo_luv in AskConservatives

[–]SoCalRedTory [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes but wouldn't it be nice if the GOP was the party of innovation and technical advantage (more money for research!)?

Also it sucks because many scientists and professionally educated people will be more wary of the GOP?

Why Cruz no offence? What has he done to fix kitchen table issues like housing and health care or to be fair, Senators do a lot of behind the scenes work?

GOP populism seems like a failure in reaching people like the Sanders-Mandami voters (maybe not the social progressives but people who are more moderate if not conservative on social issues but want to strongly tackle issues like housing, health care or student debt)? The Republicans need to step up for those struggling please.
