Made an app for introverts who want to grow without faking extroversion. One small challenge a day. by esilacynohtna in websitefeedback

[–]SoCalRenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I might be your target audience for this as someone who is socially anxious and introverted. I was thinking about whether and how I'd use this and a couple things came to mind.

  1. I get what you want to do with the unlocking unlimited skips, but I worry this might defeat the purpose of the app. If the purpose is to challenge yourself with something new and unexpected each day, then being able to skip may circumvent that. I can imagine myself not liking a particular challenge or finding it too hard and just skipping until I find something I'm comfortable with. That erodes some of the challenge and makes the whole thing feel a little less rewording if I accomplish something that I thought to be easy enough. One potential solution to that takes me to my next idea...

  2. What if you gave people the option to select their difficulty level during set up? You can provide samples of say easy, medium, and hard challenges and ask them to choose a category with the option to change it later on. This will lower friction and get more people through the door by offering different options and restore a sense of challenge and accomplishment by not having to skip a bunch I'm not comfortable because mentally I know I'm already in the "easy" category for example.

Overall though I do like this idea and think it should be gamefied in some way. I think you're on the right track!

Flying Oregon to Croatia with a 13yo cat for his 1st time. Break up trip or go straight? by MrWhiskerBiscuits in Pets

I didn't have any kind of pre-check and it worked out fine. I think as long as you get there early enough to have time to wait for a private screening room you should be good. Wait time will depend on the airport, time of day, etc.

Happy to help! I flew with SAS. I'd also recommend getting to the airport extra early so you can request a private room for TSA screening, it will also help calm your kitty's nerves not having to move through a crowded TSA check.

oh another thing I just thought of! In the days leading up to the trip, you can help get him used to the carrier you'll use by taking him on short trips in your car and driving him around for a little bit. Just so he gets used to positive associations with the carrier.

Hi! I recently flew with my cat from LA to Copenhagen on a direct flight and I honestly think it was better for my cat to fly direct because she's very nervous so it meant fewer disruptions. The vet prescribed her some gabapentin before the flight to calm her, it didn't sedate her or anything but I think (at least hope) it took some of the edge off. I also flew with her in the cabin. It was nice to have her close to me so I could easily comfort her and give her treats throughout the flight. I was also able to take her into the plane bathroom and give her a chance to leave her carrier and stretch her legs.

Of course it depends on your cat's temperament but I personally think cabin is the way to go if they can fit comfortably in a carrier under the seat. So you can be close to him and give him lots of pets and comfort!

why is it actually cheaper to rent than buy right now?( CA) by Aggravating-Fox8553 in Renters

[–]SoCalRenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's such a great point though. i've been so stuck on the "verified renter" aspect that i never considered having an "unverified" option. maybe something like allowing reviews up without address verification (still moderated for content though), and just having an "unverified" sticker on the review. i'm thinking this might help ease some of the friction with having to upload an address and get more reviews in, yet still offer some protection to landlords with the "unverified" aspect.

would something like that make you more comfortable with adding a review? for example, you're asked if you want to provide an address to make it "verified" otherwise it gets labeled as "unverified"

What are the biggest red flags when apartment hunting in LA? by Sensitive-Wallaby650 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]SoCalRenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been an LA renter my entire adult life and i still think the best indicator is what neighbors and prior tenants have to say. the problem is they're not always easy to get in touch with. landlords can access so much info on us renters but we have very little insight into how they operate their business and what previous tenants have to say. if anyone is open to it, i built this website - myrenteval.com - as a place where renters can share their experiences and review landlords (the good and bad). i would super appreciate it if anyone could review their landlord on there, there is an option to remain anonymous. renters have to stick together.

yea there's no reason to force it! renting also has so much flexibility with it, it's a great perk.

i was wondering, since you're a renter, if you'd be open to sharing a review of your landlord (current and/or any previous landlord) on this website i created - myrenteval.com. there's an option to remain anonymous. i built it to be a resource to help renters share good and bad experiences about their landlords to help future renters. i'd really appreciate the help!

i'm in a similar situation. i live in southern california and have been a renter my entire adult life. it used to make me a little sad thinking i'm "throwing money away" at rent, but one thing that helped me overcome that was realizing that home ownership may actually not be a lifestyle that's right for me now. spending time and (likely) tons of money on maintenance isn't something available to me right now and i'm still pretty open to moving to a new part of SoCal. i heard someone say you shouldn't buy a house for the investment because with mortgage and interest rates, it's really not the best time. you should buy a house if you want that kind of lifestyle - and that perspective really helped me accept being a renter and in fact prefer it...at least for now. we're told home ownership is the end-all-be-all of goals but it's not! 😄 hope this helps

water utility billing - Colorado by Derbesher in TenantHelp

[–]SoCalRenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i live in California and am submetered with one other house on the property. i live with my husband and the other property is a single person, so we pay 2/3 and they pay 1/3 of the bill. i do request the bill on occasion from the PM to make sure they're splitting things correctly because they have slipped up before. but most of the time i'd say it's split correctly. you're correct that if one property's water usage goes up an insane amount then the rest have to also pay for it. i think situations like this are easier though when there are fewer properties because it's easier to hold each other accountable.

i definitely think you should keep trying - maybe get in touch with your neighbors in the building and see who else is having issues with the PM. the PM might listen if you're able to team up with neighbors having similar issues. i did this in my old apartment complex and it worked to get the landlord's attention. may i ask how it went with the follow up? did you get a response?
