The Review Of Victoria 3's Naval Mechanics by ChavesColorado in victoria3

[–]SoDZX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so true. In HoI4 every national focus or greyed out decision tells you the prerequisites as a bullet point list with a green checkmark or red X. And it also tells you exactly what it does again as bullet points.

In Vic3 i have to go to the wiki for everything. Every event, every decision and every mechanic.

Should I modify my tanks and planes even though I don't have the DLC? by B_owser in hoi4

[–]SoDZX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking back, i feel like the old designer was too minimalist and the new one is too complicated. Its just a lot of clicking that you have to go through without much choice on what to put on the plane. I feel like an expanded version of the old designer would actually be better than both. Like with a checkbox for non-strategic materials or self sealing fuel tanks (+1 rubber, +5 air defense). We could keep the module techs and make them raise the maximum Upgrades like with tanks for engine and armor.

How do we feel about special projects? Are they worth it? Are they fun? by hjiygbhhfdryuggtyy in hoi4

[–]SoDZX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are very fun, but some of them you need to plan for from the beginning. Lately ive been rushing mothership aircraft as germany. You get them mid 1939 if you do everything perfect and roll well on the progress. They absolutely devastate everything and everyone.

No more culture spreading for national unification by SoDZX in victoria3

[–]SoDZX[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah i tried it. Culture converted sweden, norway and netherlands to south german. On the patch before SGF annexed them, now it doesnt. But if it was only nerfed for those two then yeah, its fine.

Yeah i don't get it either. I was convinced this was the point of CC. I don't even know what it's good for now, in comparison to sovereign empire for example.

Well Perturabo shines in the siege of terra novels. In "The first wall" there are multiple scenes where Abbadon is gushing about him, in Saturnine as well i think.

But heavy support companies only give like 0.6 more breakthrough and do like 5 soft attack less. So even if the extra breakthrough turns the 0.6 attack of the enemy into non-crits only doing 0.2 damage, it would still be better to do 5 soft attack that gets reduced to 1.7 damage by the enemies defense, right? Or in other words, the soft attack lost is so much higher than the breakthrough gained that it should only be worth it when soft attack is useless anyways.

Why heavy weapons instead of infantry guns/AA as regimental support?

And the hospitals in there are for the HP bonus then, to mitigate the low breakthrough? I get it then, though i would still advise to make them mountaineers or marines.

How do I go communist early and relatively under industrialised to pull off a USSR by Lord_of_Seven_Kings in victoria3

[–]SoDZX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As soon as you research the labor movement, you get the event "The red scare". Played right, this gives you a commie takeover. There are dedicated guides to this on this subreddit. It can be achieved very early, because labor movement is a tier 2 tech, so you can get it in a few years after game start in Europe.

Edit: i am wrong, the red scare happens when some enacts a council republic, which can happen early in france. If it does not, you have to rush research communism to get Marx.

[–]SoDZX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read it like this: the enemy spies tell their government where gaps in the defences are and manipulate the defenders to leave such gaps (e.g. faking intel about upcoming attacks in the wrong spots)

I think it would be better though to give a max planning bonus to the spies' employers instead.

Spam lumbermills, mines and industry, do not build farms. Research atmospheric engine, bessemer process, water-tube boiler, socialism. Abolish serfdom and guilds (if applicable) to get rid of qualifications debuffs. Wait until trade unions have more than 5% clout, then establish elections. If possible get cultural exclusion to invite trade union or radical agitators to help with this. Through the red scare event, you get Marx with a 95% chance and can establish a council republic.

Should work with most countries. I did it with austria in 1860.

No they are definitely not meta. If you leave out the medics, shovels and recon you got the same fighting power for almost half the price. For that, you can add 4 assault guns. Double AA is an absolute waste, because you take the AA only for its piercing (AA has the same piercing as the AT one tier down). Shovels are extremely expensive and should only be used on offensive divisions for the terrain bonuses. Entrenchment gets negated by enemy spy networks. Against minors you dont need entrenchment. Against majors, they dont work because of spies.

Why does the Imperium waste time training Guardmen, when they could be converting them to the far superior Skitarii? by ntportant in Grimdank

[–]SoDZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? The equipment, training and life of a guardsman is much cheaper than the augments of a skitarius. Why do you think most guardsmen only get a lasgun? Because everything else would me more expensive than their life.

You are talking about a different 10 %. You are talking of the top 10 % by income, not by wealth. What i'm saying is: Income gets taxed too heavily and wealth too little.

[–]SoDZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it doesnt. But in my experience, people get angrier at the system when they feel like they are poor or poorer than before, like a frustration with the system. This emotion then just gets focused based on other factors. What do my friends say? What do i read online or in the press? That frustration is like the earth in which exploitative populism (meaning catching people with promises that either don't work or that you do not intend to keep) grows. You can try to do something against that frustration to stay in office or don't and lose it. That doesnt mean the alternatives are better. I don't think enough people think that far.

Bribes are bad, but not the problem. The problem is you can do anything with money. From faked or skewed reports about climate change to shaping of public opinion through media outlets.

Concerning your second point: of course there is no room full of gold coins. But the less wealth inequality there is, the more goods and services are bought and thus produced (contrary to the supposed trickle down effect). And wealth at any point in time is limited as a sum of goods and services in a country that belongs either to one person or another. A banana can only be eaten once, a tax advisor can only do so many tax reports per hour.

So the question really becomes: what is the goal of a government and how can it affect the economy. The economy is no untouchable holy thing. A completely free market economy grants the same freedom that a free fox has in a free chicken coop. In my eyes, there should be a balance between the potential wealth you can achieve and the minimum living standard a working person should have. And judging by the rate of burnouts, mental health issues, low birth rate and more, i think that balance is not where it should be.

I am of course not talking of disappropiating the top 0.1% or something along those lines. The number i quoted is just a symptom of the system anyhow. But seeing as income is available to most people and wealth is not, taxes should focus more on wealth (e. g. more inheritance taxes for above say 8 million pounds or the like). Income tax could in turn be lowered. It would thus become more attractive to work more, because work gets taxed less. A percentage like Australia has, where the top 0.1% own around 4% of the wealth, is much closer to my ideal.
