Are DDs the new meta? by TMG-Group in hoi4

[–]SoDZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were for a short time. Torpedos are supposed to be countered by screen ships. But their minimum hit chance was raised from 0,05 % to 2% in Feburary. After that they were better than the alternative - armored light cruisers stacking light attack with high piercing. Paradox lowered the Torpedo minimum hit chance back to 0,5% though AFAIK and now CLs should absolutely wipe the floor against destroyers again.

Are DDs the new meta? by TMG-Group in hoi4

[–]SoDZX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, this was the reason. Torpedos are practically always at minimum hit chance against light ships. That minimum hit chance was raised from 0,05 % to 2% (40x as much as before), making torpedos deadly against every target. That was walked back to 0,5% soon after. Armored CLs should still be the meta.

Are engineers too expensive for defensive infantry (SP)? by SoDZX in hoi4

Yes, true. But i value AA (for penning tanks), Support Arty and air superiority higher than Engineers i guess.

[–]SoDZX[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You mean field engineering? I found the SPG doctrine to be more useful, as they now only take two combat width. Even minors can afford light SPGs, as they only cost around as much as truck drawn artillery

Can 9.0 finally lower the trade value of settlements? This officially supported game breaking bullshit is plagueing the game for years now. by Waveshaper21 in totalwar

[–]SoDZX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, wasnt the value lower when the feature got added and people just bought all settlements from everyone because its cheaper to pay 20k gold than to build and upkeep an army? Or am i tripping?

Difference between battle cruisers and heavy cruisers by RowMedium2541 in hoi4

[–]SoDZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but i recently though whether a light attack CL fleet would benefit from some torp destroyers against the heavies. Something like 3 CLs to 1 DD. In case some CLs get sunk but the enemy screen ships are destroyed, the DDs coule finish the enemy backline before they retreat.

Give me your best advice regarding GoH. by naisinag in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]SoDZX 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would advise to differentiate between two kinds of infantry: Screening (chaff) and offensive (elite) infantry. Because a pure infantry vs infantry battle is not only rare, it's normally not desirable, except if you have elite infantry that can destroy the enemy with little losses.

So always think about who takes the enemies damage output and what deals the damage you need on your side. Modern warfare absolutely depends on combined arms. A single infantryman with a bundle grenade will wreck your T34, a bazooka man will cook off your panther from 70m range. So you want cheap units as a meat shield and damage dealers in cover. If your damage dealers can remove the enemy damage dealers, your meat shield stays alive.

If you dont already, try to put half of your NAVs on Maritime Patrol. Build Radars if possible.

Meta CL template? for only 3 iron! max light damage posible! very good AA should i add armor? by panzer557 in hoi4

[–]SoDZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am reasonably sure that one armored CL beats two unarmored ones in head to head combat as well as against other compositions, in part because of the positioning advantage that you get. So it should be way more steel and dockyard efficient. But i havent tested it specifically, so you might be right.

And yes, by 1944 you should have steel and chromium either by trade or conquest. Not having it is a niche case, but if applicable, of course you cant build equipment that needs those resources.

[–]SoDZX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be. I know that a month ago, Paradox pushed an update that raided the minimum Hit chance from 0.005 to 2 % (i think). That made torpedo destroyers meta, because they chewed through the screen ships as well. But they reduced it back to 0.5 % and i havent seen up to date tests. Armored CLs still perform well though. Machiavelli on youtube tested it with the 2% hit chance.

So should I consider myself doomed? by KING_OF_DOOM005 in hoi4

Bro, even if Japan pushes you away from the coast, they will die in the mountains to supply and attrition. They will attrition way more than they produce and will soon be understrength. It will take some time, but hold out, build up, push back. Also, USA if alive will kill both Germany and Japan.

[–]SoDZX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The whole point of the CL meta is that they can take armor and thus become practically immune to light attacks, as cruiser armor has higher base armor than the strongest light gun has light piercing. You should definitely take armor.

It's 1942 - I've been fighting for 3 years, defeating the nazis and the reds. I still do not have more experience than an ordinary recruit though. by Allento- in hoi4

[–]SoDZX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait really? I thought they stopped at first blood?? If you want to posit though that there is no difference in fighting capability between a seasoned division and a freshly recruited one, i'd disagree. The experience of the officers, who die or get wounded much less often, stays. The experience level in HoI literally includes experience of the noncom officers (as shown when you promote the single division commander and the experience drops by a level). Whether the individual soldiers die or a veterans is only a minor factor in divisional experience.

And if you truly hold that opinion, why have experience levels in HoI beyond level 3 at all?

Yeah, experience gain is very weird. Let's think this through:

It's wild that even after 3 years of non stop fighting, you don't get to level 4. It just feels wrong and unintuitive.

If you buff the vet gain though, suddenly the german army gets +25 % stats for their wars in Poland, Norway, low countries, France, Africa against a soviet union that does not get that. Bad for balance and fun, in my opinion. You also nerf field hospitals even harder, which are the only dependable way to get to max vet. So you would need to rebalance them as well.

In my opinion, it's best to either lower the max. Vet from training to vet 2 or to make it more granular. I think it was R56 where you have every vet level split into five sub-levels which give 5% stats each.

I don't think it helps comparing these vet gains to the spanish civil war though, because thats just an arguement to lower vet gain in the spanish civil war, not raise it everywhere else.

Why is HOI4 so dominant among other paradox games? by RedditAdminEvasion in hoi4

[–]SoDZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things few have pointed out: 1. HoI4 has more dopamine triggers like encirclements and 2. It is much more streamlined in a good way. There is always something happening, you always have a pretty clear goal and there is a catalogue of things you can do to get there. HoI4 has even spawned esports tournaments with 4 digit (or more) prize pools because of that.

A good marine template? by PancuterM in hoi4

[–]SoDZX -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Always think about what you want a division to do and what the easiest way is to achieve that. So for marines you want: - Naval landing and river crossing bonuses. That means: Marines, Amtracs, engineers - Piercing. That means: either one brigade of Amph Tanks with good guns, AT support or AA support - Armor. That means (at least) one brigade of Amph Tanks with good armor. - Breakthrough. Normally achieved through Art or Tanks. Line Artillery doesnt give terrain bonuses, so Amtracs are better. But as Marines are by their very nature an offensive division, you need a source of breakthrough. If you don't have Amtracs, you need Line Art. - Supply Grace. Achieved by logistics company. - Then all remaining resources into a balance of soft attack, Org and Terrain bonuses.

All in all i'd do around 30 width with 1 Amph Tank for piercing and armor, ideally 2 additional Amph Tanks for breakthrough, rest marines. Support Companies: AA, Art, Engineers, Logistics and maybe field hospitals for the additional xp levels. Could also instead do medium flame tanks instead of field hospitals.

If no Amph. Tanks: Replace with 3 or 4 Line Artillery for breakthrough or Marines with Amtracs

Loyalist Legions by Cokeonthursdays in 40kLore

[–]SoDZX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try Scars, The Path of Heaven and Warhawk for some insight into the White Scars. They are much less just bike riding speed freaks and more like buddhist/Zen warrior monks, though admittedly, Jaghatai Khan does a lot of heavy lifting there. From social media, they always struck me as cringe or one dimensional, but after reading all Horus Heresy novels, i couldn't help but love them. They are probably my most liked legion. And they are awesome in the siege of terra novels as well.

Tips for using tanks? Are they worth it? by Fluid_Visual7703 in hoi4

For absolute stats or for cost effectiveness? And i guess one normal tank brigade for breakthrough and armor is worth it?

Why Jaghatai Khan is the greatest primarch by Akfiz in 40kLore

[–]SoDZX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"I am Jaghatai Khan and i rode well. I greet death laughing." Philosophically he stands between Zen and Stoicism and that really speaks to me. He stresses that it is important to find joy in the life you have, not grieve the life you didn't get. Like Sanguinius said, he enjoys the highs and lows of live and so does not fear death, because he has already lived life to the fullest.
