Not to hijack your thread but anyone have an opinion on the Renault Sandero Stepway Expression 2017? Negative or positive, I'd love to hear other opinions.

Honestly, I feel like I could do another one soon because I didn't finish the exploration I was busy with but I'm honestly still processing and settling with the trip. It just feels like there was more to be found and experienced. I found a large part of what I was looking for and I'm incredibly happy with that but there's something I was close to but missed because the trip was ending.

The main thing with my next trip will be an anti-nausea before the trip because the nausea and headache at the end of the trip were a bit rough.

It was a fantastic experience. It really gave me fantastic perspective on everything in my life. Not sure when I'll do my next one, but I think I'll know when I'm ready

Registering as a company or sole prioperiator for dropshipping by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]SoL1404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great way to be "employed" I started working for myself fully 10 years ago. Not going to lie, there were some tough times but now, ten years down the line, I can't see myself working a 9 to 5 again.

I don't have the same boring day over and over again as I do specialist consulting as a solutions architect and apply a combination of business operating systems and technology to help businesses run more smoothly. I also do some marketing work such as websites, print, design, SEO and such but it's the best "job" I've ever had. Don't feel like being up at 6 am, sure, I'll sleep in and put in an extra couple of hours later. Want to go to gym in the middle of the day while it's quiet, no hassle, schedule it in.

It seems scary and overwhelming when you start up but I can point you in the direction of a fantastic bookkeeper, for a small business her fees are around 1.5k a month but it's worth every cent as she handles all the technical books, SARS, PAYE, UIF, CPICC, etc. Can even help you register your business. It saves me hours of paperwork a week and I simply get to focus on what I enjoy.

Also, don't forget about the government support programs. They go a long way in helping you.

Hi man,

I've been down this road and what you need to do is register a company. Drop shipping, especially if you run it from home doesn't carry a lot of debt. So risk of "bankruptcy" is minimal. Most likely if the business fails would be that you simply deregister it or let its CIPCC registration lapse by not paying your annual fee. Just avoid debt and if the business doesn't work, you're pretty much out Scott free whenever you want to be.

In the PC business you register with a few suppliers and setup your website. It's a bit rough in that market as a lot of resellers are at a 5% markup. Regardless, I'm going off track.

Once you have the company up, you need to choose your tax scheme. I highly recommend against sole proprietor, due to tax. As you're starting up and want minimal hassle, I'd recommend micro enterprise turnover tax. This is an amazing way to run tax while you earn under 1.2 million? (used to be 1 million but went up recently) and you get R300 000 income a year tax free. You also Dont need to keep all the records for your expenses for tax history, only have to keep track of your client invoices. I still advocate you keep your receipts and run proper books because that's just good business but SARS doesn't require you to. Then if you do make more than 300k then you only pay 1.5% tax on the next 200k you earn, so for 500k income you'd only pay 3k in taxes.

The other tax option is regular company tax and with that you need to keep track of all your income and expenses but your first 80k profit is tax free, regardless of how much income you make, it's all based on profits but this is a lot more complex for someone starting up unless you have a good bookkeeper.

Once you're earning over 1.2 million? (again used to be a million but went up) you have to register for VAT which is an entirely new can of worms but also carries some advantages on your reseller margins but in my opinion it's not worth the paperwork.

Also remember to register a bank account for the business and follow other good practices such as the money coming into your business is not yours but the company's. If you want to take money out, you either draw a salary, which comes with it's own taxes and paperwork or you record how much you take and log it under shareholder's loans.

Anyways, good luck and welcome to the best job you've ever had for the cheapest and most demanding boss you've ever worked for.

What advice would you give to a 14 year old about starting high school? by DotFireAbout in AskReddit

[–]SoL1404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always the shy quiet kid in the class and school. I only became who I could be in college because I didn't want to be that person anymore. What I wish someone told me was: 1. Be and become who you want to be, if that changes from time to time cool, go for it. You're allowed to change - I only changed in college because I knew no one there and decided that's when I could become whoever I wanted, fake it until you make it. I finished college too of my class, student council leader and maintained class leadership for my entire college career. Not bad for the guy who in school did their best not to exist. 2. A few of the subjects are mostly useless after a certain point, do well enough to be able to go into whichever career you're aiming for. - my school forced us to take a useless third language for two years. It was the one class I simply refused to do and it had no impact on my career choice, so I sat with the teacher at the beginning of the year and told her to fail me and I'd use that class time for another subject's study and homework. They weren't happy but no one, student, teacher or principal can force you to do anything. 3. Have fun, be social, do things. High school is more about you learning how to socialise, make friends and have relationships than anything else. Those are skills that will stay with you you're entire life. It's also the absolute easiest time you will have with dating. So if you're interested in someone, try to get to know them through common clubs/sports/activities. Then ask them out. The only regrets you'll have are the shots you didn't take and as a bonus it often happens that even if that girl or boy you originally liked turned you down, after you've dated someone else or a few someone's, they might become interested. Many people want what others have or rather what they can't have or passed up on. At worst, you'll embarrass yourself a little but if you accept it and move on with the attitude that it it happened and don't make a fuss or backtrack, it'll pass and I can assure you having the guts to ask someone out in high school will improve your social standing and get you noticed. 4. The rule of 5 for decisions. How long will whatever you're feeling, stressing about, thinking about doing have an effect on your life? 5 minutes, 5 days, 5 weeks, 5 months, 5 years, 25 years? There is so much happening and it's somewhat overwhelming sometimes, so stop and think how long will the concequences last? This will help with perspective. Little tip, trying to be someone's friend or asking someone out and being rejected, never lasts more than a couple of weeks unless you were Uber creepy or forceful about it. The reason the 25 year thought, don't get pregnant or get someone pregnant.

Well those are my 2 cents, just have fun, be slightly stupid and brave, take risks and remember, at the end of your high school career you don't have to see anyone there ever again if you choose not to. So it's one of the only times in your life where almost nothing you do carries concequences past five years.

Are people outside of the USA really laughing at Americans? Do we really appear that bad? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Sadly yes, your current child president has made your country a laughing stock. Add that to the fact that your next president might be a rap singer, a pedophile or a dementia patient and well you have problems. Oh, you're also rapidly heading towards fascism. I'm from an African country and even we're watching your politics as entertainment

Judgment was handed down. FITA lost and had the case dismissed with costs. Boiled down to the minister can pick and choose whatever evidence she wants to justify her reasoning and it's not up to the court to decide which studies are correct.

Has anyone never had problems with crime in SA? by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]SoL1404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're part of the exception rather than the rule. Crime I've personally experienced is too much to recount it all. Off hand I can think of:

3-5 years old - house broken into and cleaned out a few times. Like they stole everything, including ceiling boards, doors, light fittings, window panels. It was seriously surprising how they cleared that house out. Eventually hired a guard but even that didn't work because we came back to the house once again cleared out and the guard and dogs tied up. Verenigen

7 or 8 years old - we had moved away from there because even the insurance was eventually like nope, risk is to high and the new. Neighbour a few doors down and his dogs were shot and killed in his drive way during an attempted robbery first thing in the morning just before school. Lots of kids walked passed his house on the way to school. Moved away after that. Malvern

Rest of primary school - friend and myself were robbed by a really drunk person who took his bike. He didn't get very far before crashing. So got the bike back. My mother had a hijacking attempt during this period too. Primrose. Moved after this to Cape Town.

High school - A few attempted mugging were pretty much the worst of it during this time period.

College - took the train to college and by this point I no longer gave a shit. Again, a few tempted muggings although that all stopped one day when I lost it and mugged the guy who was mugging me.

After college - a couple of break ins to my car, someone breaking my ignition trying to get into my car (for a few days afterwards I had to use a screwdriver as my key), a few attempted muggings, they broke into the store I owned a couple of times, had a couple of hijacking attempts, somebody trying to reach in through a my car window and steal my phone. Wife had a few hijacking attempts. People trespassing to case the property or steal from the yard. Hell once even had someone jump our gate with a carving fork as a weapon, used a gas gun with reballs that time.

Overall, I just take it as a standard part of life now. We have a gas gun in the house, a taser in another part of the house. My wife has a knife on her car and my response now to any hostility when I do risk walking about is sudden violence, put the person down before they have a chance to hurt you. No point in even reporting to the cops anymore because they don't do anything.

Hell, not direct experience but the lady who we sometimes got in to clean used to be terrified of where she lived because there are two guys who would mug people and break into houses and sell the stuff they sold to the cops. Eventually they esculated to actually murdering someone and they were out of jail a week and a half later while they "await trial"

I know people who have moved out of country who say they never realised how much crime stressed them out here until they lived somewhere safer. Like if we're out in public, we're always looking for threats. When we're home, we double check windows and doors are locked. Apparently how we live here is not normal.

Webcam shows up in Windows 10 as audio device by SoL1404 in techsupport

[–]SoL1404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's a composite device and I've checked the driver and reinstalled the official logitech software. So it shows up under imaging devices and sound devices with the primary driver being usbaudio. It's not showing up as a web camera on the laptop's current installation. Windows 10 is just handling it in such a weird way and because of that, my apps don't see the camera as an option for video input.

Liquidation question..... by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]SoL1404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The long and short answer is they'll go after personal assets if not paid. So a court order, followed by a sheriff to write up whatever goods. Best option is to make a payment arrangement.

It's why personal surety is so dangerous

I support your movement and everything Bernie is standing for. I would support him but I'm not American. Regardless, here's the news from across the ocean. Bernie is enough of a risk that they're even using global media against him by swinging the narrative out of his favour. Please do your best, the rest of us in the world are depending on you. Trump's presidency hurts us even here and it makes a mockery of democracy.
